Good And Bad News

"Open the gates!" Rick's voice seemed distant, but that also meant he was close. And from what she could tell he was alone. "Open the gates now!" Parker ran towards the front gate, seeing Michonne rushing in from the side as she pulled the mesh covering back. In front of her was Rick being chased by a least half of the herd and some were trying to cut him off, coming out of the woods. Parker grabbed the metal gate, waiting until he was a good enough distance away before using all her body weight to pull it open for him. A walker cut Rick off and he bodied it to the ground, causing him to fall with it.

"Rick!" Parker shouted as he struggled to get back to his feet. He shuffled away from the walker that clawed at his boots and pushed himself back up, running through the gate, Michonne pulled it shut behind him. Rick turned around out of breath as they stared at the walkers reaching through the metal bars, trying to claw at them. Parker dragged the gate cover across, making them just noisy shadows. She walked over to Rick, a laugh of disbelief escaping her as she wrapped her arms around him. He hugged her back, looking over her shoulder at Michonne. When they pulled away, Rick noticed her wearing a sweater covered in blood, which matched the blood that covered the lower portion of her face and the sleeve of her left arm.

"What happened?" Rick asked, looking around at the town and the bodies that littered the ground. The majority of which being their own people.

"We were attacked," Parker explained to him, guilt overwhelmed her as she looked around. If she had left the house right when this started, maybe she could have saved more people. "Those people with the 'W's' on their foreheads climbed over the walls and then they just started killing people." She knew he was about to comment on her being out there but she felt like she had made the right choice. "I couldn't just stand by and watch, Rick. I couldn't."

"Did you go out while all this was happening?" He pointed towards the dead bodies.

"No," She shook her head, glad he ignored what she had said.

"You forget that you look at your feet when you lie," Rick had a tired smile on his face, probably from running a good ten miles. Maybe more. "Not to mention, you're covered in blood."

"Yell at me later," Parker shrugged off his concern. "Where's Daryl?"

"I don't know," Rick answered her and she stared at him blankly for a moment as his words registered.

"What do you mean 'You don't know'? How can you not- where... where is he?" She stuttered over her words as she tried to keep herself calm. "I know that this wasn't expected but you... you've been planning this damn thing for two weeks!"

"I'm sure he's okay, P," Rick tried to comfort her.

"Yeah, and the herd of walkers you brought back with you is proof, right?" Parker snapped at him, she covered her mouth with her hand, looking at him apologetically. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say that." He placed a hand on her shoulder, squeezing it lightly. She muffled a cry of pain as she shrugged his hand off. The group of survivors that survived the attack were gathered by the wall, listening to the walkers outside, growling, and clamoring to get in. Rick walked towards the center of the people of Alexandria with Parker trailing behind him.

"You can hear it," Rick began, taking in the horrified looks of the people. "Some of you saw it. They got back here, half of them. Still enough to surround us twenty deep. Look, I know you're scared. You haven't seen anything like this. You haven't been through anything like this. But we're safe for now."

"The panel the truck hit, still seems pretty stable," Parker commented, a few of the group seemed to relax just a bit at that. "We reinforced it just to be sure it will hold."

"Either way, the wall's gonna hold together," Rick continued. "Can you? The others... they're gonna be back."

"They are gonna be back," Rosita backed him up, she had a lot of trust in many of the people who were still out there. Mainly Abraham.

"Daryl, Abraham, Sasha," Rick listed off and Parker looked at the ground when she heard Daryl's name. "They have vehicles. They're gonna lead 'em away, just like the others. And Glenn and Nicholas are going to walk back through the front gate after. They know what they're doing, and we know what we need to do. We keep noise to a minimum. Pull our blinds at night. Even better, we'll keep the lights out. Let's try to make this place as quiet as a graveyard. See if they move on."

"This place is a graveyard," A woman countered, somewhere from the middle.

"You should just be happy you're not buried in it," Parker muttered under her breath, keeping her head down.

"The quarry broke open and those walkers were heading this way," Aaron announced. "All of them. The plan that Rick put into place stopped that from happening. He got half of them away. I was out there recruiting with Daryl. I wanted to try to get into a cannery and scavenge, and Daryl wanted to continue looking for people. We did what I wanted... and we wound up in a trap set by those people." He looked around at the dead bodies, indicating that he was talking about the Wolves. "And I lost my pack. They must've followed our tracks. Those people who attacked us.... they found their way back here because of me." Deanna walked away from the group, going back to her office and once she was gone everyone's attention started to fade, some even leaving.

"There'll be more to talk about," Rick declared, setting everyone free to do as they wished. Parker looked up at Rick, waiting for him to say something.

"Rick?" She stared at him confused, he put a hand on her shoulder.

"Come on," Rick said quietly, leading her away from the group of people. "We're getting those wounds stitched up." Parker groaned, turning away and heading towards the infirmary.

"Okay," She huffed dramatically, rolling her eyes as she walked ahead of him. By nightfall, children and adults in the community had created a wall with the names of all those lost in the attack. Parker ventured there after dark, wrapped in one of Daryl's jackets. She walked to the wall and saw the list of names. People she didn't recognize. People who didn't deserve the death that was given to them. At the bottom of the list, there was one name that made her heart ache as her eyes remained glued to it. Glenn. She shook her head as she stared at it, reaching out to run her hand over the painted-on letters, she sighed sadly. "You better not be dead, asshole. I know you have Maggie now, and I have Daryl, but... it's you and me. It was always Glenn and Parker. You and me. We're supposed to be a team. Chaotic run patterns. And partners in crime. I will never forgive you for leaving us if you're dead, so please don't be dead. We need you, idiot." A soft laugh behind her made her turn around, seeing Maggie standing behind her. "I didn't realize I wasn't alone," She used the heel of her hands to wipe the tears off her face. "How... how much of that did you hear?"

"Pretty much all of it," Maggie replied. "But he's not dead."

"He's my best friend," Parker whispered as she looked at his name on the wall. "He's survived out there, making do with what he's had longer than a lot of us. There's no way he won't come back." Maggie nodded her head in agreement, a sad smile on her face as she looked at her husband's name on the wall.

"He needs a friend like you."

"Just like I need a friend like him," Parker mumbled, noticing Maggie's expression. "Hey, what's up? We just decided that he was coming back."

"I know," Magging laughed, holding in tears. "He has to come back because.." Maggie trailed off as she looked down at her stomach. It took a few seconds for her words to click in Parker's head but when she connected the dots she gasped in realization.

"No way! Seriously?!" Maggie smiled.

"Yeah, I think so."

"You're pregnant?" Her mouth hung open in complete shock as she stared at Maggie. "Oh my god, congratulations!" Maggie laughed nervously as she hugged Parker.

"Thank you. I know Glenn would love to be the one to ask, but would you be the godmother?"

"No doubt about it, absolutely," Parker instantly agreed. "As long as you're my baby's godmother. Also... me and Glenn already made a deal about this back at the prison."

"Course you did," She rolled her eyes, as she laughed at Parker.

"Oh my goodness, our babies are going to grow up together!" Parker gasped excitedly.

"Yours could be the big brother or sister," Maggie added.

"Hey, we should get his name off the wall. It doesn't belong up there." After that, they began to erase Glenn's name from the wall, refusing to believe that he was dead, and after a few minutes, Aaron joined them.

"When they come back," Aaron started, putting emphasis on the 'when'. "It's worth mentioning, to both Daryl and Glenn, that Aaron... Erin... is good for a boy or a girl. I'm just putting it out there. You know, depending on the spelling." Then he looked at Parker. "Or... if you have a boy, you can name him Aaron, and if Maggie has a girl, you can name her Erin. Vice versa."

"Yeah, I don't know about that," Parker chuckled, and the three of them all laughed together.

"Just saying. You should consider it when they both get back," Aaron persisted, giving them a nod. Once Glenn's name was removed from the wall, Parker and Maggie walked back to the house. Not knowing what had happened to their spouses was slowly driving them crazy, so when they got to the house and went up to their rooms, Parker stood in her bedroom doorway, looking back at Maggie.

"Do you, uh... do you want to stay the night in my room?" Parker offered, turning around. "Nothing.... nothing weird or anything. I just... don't feel like being alone." Maggie nodded, walking over.

"Yeah, sounds good to me." Considering they'd slept closer to each other before, in barns that smelled like horse shit and houses with rotting corpses in the next room, it wasn't unusual for them to share a bed. "I'd like to believe we got all those people out. But I'd rather not be alone either."

"Carl said I was cursed," Parker tried to start up some type of conversation as Maggie sat down on the bed.

"You might be. I can honestly see where he might be comin' from." Maggie kissed her teeth as she tried to keep the smile off her face.

"Of course, you're siding with him," She jokingly scoffed, lying down. "I'm worried, you know?" Parker stared up at the ceiling as she spoke, the mood changing from calm and joking to serious. "I know they always come back, but I always stress myself out over it."

"I know how you feel," Maggie assured her. "I feel the same way."

"I just wish they would come back and stay here for a while," Parker sighed, flipping to her side. "Instead of going out all the time."

"Daryl seems to prefer being out there," Maggie commented. "Not that that's directed at you. I'm just sayin'.."

"Yeah, I get what you're saying," Parker muttered, she'd thought the same thing. "I know what you mean. He prefers being out there, not trapped in here. He knows nature better than anyone, and he's been surviving even before all of this. This place...." She sighed, " This place isn't home for him."

"No," Maggie shook her head. "This place isn't. You are."
