Back From The Run

When Daryl and Parker returned to the farm, they saw that the rest of their friends had been busy too. They had pitched their tents in the shadow of a small tree line, strung out ropes to hang clothes, and prepared a small hole to make a fire in the middle of the tents. Glenn came running towards Parker and Daryl, a smile plastered on his face.

"Guess what?" Glenn exclaimed.

"Wait, wait," Parker put a hand up, telling him to hold on. "I'll meet you at your tent in five-ish minutes. I just have to give Rick his gun back." Glenn nodded eagerly before running off, and when he left, Daryl looked impressed.

"He had sex." Parker choked on air, pounding her fist off her chest.

"What?"

"Didn't you see his face?" Daryl asked. "It was obvious."

"For you," Parker said, as she walked towards Rick. "Anyway, thanks for saving me earlier, and you know, letting me go with you in the first place."

"You're welcome," Daryl replied. "I'm gonna look for Carol." Parker nodded at him, giving him a small wave.

"I'm gonna find Glenn." She gave Rick his gun back, breaking the news that they couldn't find Sophia, but found a possible lead, before heading to the tent where Glenn was waiting. She got inside and saw that he had already unpacked most of his belongings, placing a sleeping bag on the opposite side of the tent from him.

"I thought maybe you wanted to share with Daryl, but Rick told me you can't do that," Glenn explained. "Something about you being his little sister and you can't share with boys or something?"

"But I'm sharing with you." Parker pointed out.

"Well, he also said I'm the exception," Glenn replied with a smile. Parker sighed, falling back into the sleeping bag.

"So he basically called you a girl and you took it as a compliment?" Parket laughed with him. "There are only four years between us. I'm not a teenager anymore."

"Rick seems to think you are," Glenn said. "But anyway, guess what?" Parker remembered what Daryl had said earlier.

"Did you have sex?" Glenn's face fell in astonishment.

"What? How could you know that?"

"I could see it on your face," Parker lied coolly. "So, it was with Maggie?"

"Yes." Glenn nodded. "It was... it was incredible." Parker extended a hand signaling not to go any further.

"I don't need too much information. I'm happy for you though."

"Thanks," Glenn smiled. "So, did anything interesting happen with you and Daryl today?"

"If by interesting you mean almost being killed by a couple walkers and then falling through a broken board on a staircase, then yes," Parker responded.

"That's not really what I meant," Glenn said. "But at least you almost got killed by a couple walkers."

"Yeah," Parker sighed, relieved to be able to relax for a little while. "Daryl had my back though. It was strange. He seemed different today."

"How so?" Glenn asked, getting into his sleeping bag.

"I don't know," Parker let out a loud breath. "He just seemed very... soft, does that make sense? He told me this story about a Cherokee rose and how beautiful it was. I didn't think he would believe in things like that, but he does and it was nice to see that."

"Is Parkies in love?" Glenn jokingly laughed. Parker rolled her eyes.

"No. No, I'm not. Also, never call me 'Parkies' again."

"Sure," Glenn dragged out. "Anyway, you and Daryl will definitely pair up again tomorrow, although it seems like Rick isn't okay with that."

"There's nothing going on that Rick needs to worry about," Parker told Glenn.

"Yet," Glenn added. Parker threw her pillow at him.

"Shut up." After a second, she added, "Can I have that back?"

"Yes," Glenn murmured, tossing the pillow at Parker. "Go to sleep, Parkies."

"Stop calling me that. And don't tell me what to do."

"Why not?"

"Because Rick used to tell me the same thing when we were kids and I don't need you bringing up our childhood memories again," Parker explained.

"Very well, Parkies."

"Glenn!" Glenn laughed and said goodnight again, letting the two of them fall asleep. The next morning, Rick woke up Parker and informed her that she had slept in late. She reluctantly got out of her sleeping bag, dressed in the same jeans as the day before, and put on a clean shirt that she was sure once belonged to Glenn. Either way, it was clean, and after the other one got covered in walker blood the day before, she wasn't going to use it again. Leaving the tent, she tied the knife to her belt as she walked and headed to the truck, where the rest of the search team was gathered. She yawned and leaned against the truck window.

"Are you okay? You don't look great." Rick asked, grimacing at her appearance.

"I just don't like being woken up," Parker replied. "Give me ten minutes and I'll be fine."

"Morning guys." Rick greeted Andrea and T-Dog. "Let's get going, we got a lot of ground to cover." Parker sighed, tying up her hair and putting on a hat to protect her eyes from the sun.

"More walking and getting sunburned." Daryl approached Parker as Rick pulled out the map again.

"Alright, everyone's getting new search grids today. If she made it all the way to the farmhouse Daryl and Parker found, she might have gone further east than we've been so far."

"I'd like to help," Jimmy announced, one of Hershel's people. "I know the area pretty well and stuff."

"Hershel's okay with this?" Rick asked.

"Yes, yeah," Jimmy answered, a little too quickly. "He, uh, he said I should ask you."

"Alright then." Rick gave a nod of appreciation. "Thanks."

"Nothing about what Parker and Daryl found screams Sophia to me," Shane voiced his unwanted opinion. "Anyone could have been holed up in that farmhouse."

"Anybody includes her, right?" Andrea asked him.

"And the two walkers we found," Parker added.

"Whoever slept in those cupboards was no bigger than yay-high," Daryl responded his hand a little above his hip.

"It's a good lead," Andrea said.

"Maybe we'll pick up her trail again," Rick said to the search party.

"No maybe about it" Daryl replied. "I'm gonna borrow a horse, head up this ridge right here, get a bird's eye view of the whole grid. If she's up there, I'll spot her.".

"Good idea," T-Dog praised him, a hint of teasing in his voice as he continued. "Maybe you'll see your Chupacabra up there too."

"Chupacabra?" Rick asked, eyebrows raised.

"You never heard this?" Dale asked him. "Our first night in camp, Daryl tells us that the whole thing reminds him of a time he went squirrel hunting and saw a Chupacabra." Jimmy laughed in disbelief and Daryl looked him in the eyes.

"What are you braying at, jackass?"

"So, you believe in a bloodsucking dog?" Jimmy asked.

"You believe in dead people walking around?" Daryl countered. Jimmy grabbed a shotgun, but Rick stopped him.

"Hey, hey. You ever fired one before?"

"Well, if I'm going, I want one," Jimmy countered, dodging the question.

"Yeah, and people in hell want slurpees," Daryl muttered, slinging his crossbow over his shoulder. Parker noticed him preparing to leave.

"Do you want company?"

"No, I'll be fine on my own," Daryl answered back over his shoulder. "Better on my own anyway." Parker frowned. She was hoping she could hang out with Daryl again that day because the day before was fun and she seemed to be getting somewhere by becoming friends with him. Still, if he thought he would be better off alone, she wasn't going to complain, so she told him to be careful and left him alone. Once he was gone, Rick returned to the map.

"Alright, Andrea, T-Dog. I want you guys.."
