9- Easy?
-Lucy-
"Come back here!"
My feet pound through the field, plants crunching under my feet as I run. Crops taller than my head whip across my face and arms.
The last rogue pig out of the group I've been hired to catch runs a handful of meters ahead of me.
All of the other ones were easy to catch. Most of them didn't even run and just let me catch them, but this one isn't going back in the fence easily.
The man who owns the farm apparently left the gate open and they all got out, but says he's too old to be out here running.
My foot catches on a fallen plant and I fall forward. My knees hit first and I can feel the skin getting scraped at. I clumsily fall, one hand hitting the ground and then my forearm.
I groan in both pain and annoyance and slowly stand to my feet.
My hand wipes the dirt from my knees and arms.
"I'm starting to think that this job wasn't as easy as it seemed."
My hand unclasps my whip from the belt around my waist and I break off into a sprint.
"I am not going to be beaten by a freaking pig!"
I sprint forwards, my breaths coming out heavy and loud, and ready myself to bring my whip out. When I get close enough, I bring it forward, the end shooting out and hitting right at the pig's back leg, wrapping around a couple of times. He stumbles and crashes into the dirt, sliding a little bit on the ground. I slow down to a jog and stop when I stand close.
"I'm sorry little piggy but you left me no choice."
I start to lean down towards the pig so I can tie the rope around it's neck when it bolts upright and tries to lurch away.
"Oh no!"
I quickly jump forward and fall forward onto its back, keeping it in place before it runs off again. It squirms underneath me and I quickly tie the rope.
"There!"
I stand up with the other end of the rope in hand.
"I've got you now."
I say it triumphantly and then sigh from the energy it had taken out of me. I lean over and rest a hand on my knee, taking a moment to try and slow my heavy breathing.
After a moment of standing there with nothing but the sounds of my breathing and the occasional grunt from the pig, I stand up straight and start walking back towards the farm. I do a couple of soft tugs on the rope and the pig starts walking with me.
We both walk through the tall crops. I start to relax and my breathing turns quiet.
He jerks away from me suddenly and I stumble over my feet. I catch my balance and pull tightly on the rope.
"You're not going anywhere."
I wrap the rope around my wrist a couple of times and direct the pig towards the farm.
"You know, you remind me of someone. That someone is just as difficult and irritating as you."
I trudge through the field back towards the barn, making sure to keep hold of the rope.
"You don't listen and you're always the one causing trouble."
The pig just grunts in response and I sigh and tug the rope forward.
"And you certainly can't communicate properly either."
No response comes and I just glance down to the pig before rolling my eyes and opening up the gate to the big fenced in area where the rest of them are.
"Time to go back to your own kind...and same goes for me. I really need to get out of the house more. See ya, piggy."
I untie the rope and shut the gate behind him. The pig runs off and I turn towards the farm.
Time to get my reward and get back to civilization before I get caught talking to anymore animals.
My vision darkens around the corners and I stop walking and steady myself on a fence post. I hold my head in one of my hands and breath in and out deeply.
That was more movement than I was expecting for this job. I was trying to start off easy but looks like I need to take it even more easy.
I stand there for a few moments, my vision coming back to me, and continue walking to get back home before too late.
