Chapter 43
Basically, I am updating the previous chapters again due to two reasons.
1. So that you will remember what happened before and for those who missed to read and vote.
2. It is hint that I am publishing the new chapter. So don't get confused.
And here is the new chapter. Happy Reading.
Writer's POV:
"YOU. ARE. ROHAN SARTHAK," Sam shouted at Sarthak stressing at every word she uttered pointing her finger at him.
Sarthak was unable to form words from the moment he met her or better to say, from the time she found him. He fought back, denying her claims, wanting to run away, but she just didn't allow him to do so. So, he was trying his best to deny the claim and confuse her, but she was not budging with his words.
"Listen, just because you can shout, that doesn't make you right. So leave me and....." he paused, thinking what to say. He looked at her who was anticipating his next words. He nervously continued, "Go and search in any other college or city. Maybe the one whom you say looks like me will be found at another place. Like a doppelganger,"
She was already fuming with fury, and this made her even angrier. She immediately opened her sling bag, and pulled out her phone, and started scrolling in it. Sarthak looked at Ajay, who had been a mere spectator of the issue and had not spoken a word till now.
Sarthak nudged Ajay, who was observing Sam. Sarthak signalled Ajay to run away from the place. As though Sam understood their plan, she said, "Don't think anything stupid, Mr. I have proof that you are the one and there is no twin brother or doppelganger."
"Proof?" Ajay asked. It is now that something came out from his mouth.
"Yes. Here you go," said Sam and turned her phone for them to see. It was a picture of Sarthak sitting at the back of the hall in his farewell. The photo didn't focus on him alone. Many boys were sitting before him, but he was captured enough to recognize him.
Sarthak's throat went dry as soon as he saw that pic. All his half-baked lies evaporated as she had solid proof against him. Droplets of sweat started descending from his forehead. He observed the picture more closely and saw the light in his eyes, the happiness, and the smile on my face as though he had achieved the world. Sarthak again recalled that one day, which was the best day in his life.
Then, Sam swiped the screen, and the next photo came to light. In this pic, his face is filled with laughter as he was holding a phone near his face. This reminded him that he had called her during the event, and she had disconnected the call before peeking from behind the stage. At that time, he had badly wished to have these photos not his, but to have Tanvi's photos. He didn't get any of those as he didn't ask anyone and was content with the few pics he had of her, and later, he didn't have get any reason to keep them after his 12th.
He momentarily closed his eyes as he was entangled in the proof of the past. There was nothing he had to defend himself. Who knew that one day a girl would come and put his photo on display.
"This is you, and still you deny it," Sam said in desperation. Only she knew how much Tanvi got affected and how much guilty she felt. She sighed and continued, "You know she is studying here only......"
Her voice broke when she saw the bouquet of chocolates in his hands. Until now, she hadn't paid much attention to it, but the name on the gift garnered her attention. Her hand reached for a sticky note on the gift which said, 'Happy Birthday, Dear Tanvi!' She pulled it out and observed Sarthak's face, which still had the expression of agony.
The prolonged silence on Sarthak's was making Sam's mind run wild with possibilities. Ajay understood that there was nothing left to do other than confronting the truth. He took the bouquet from Sarthak's hand and asked him to talk to Sam.
"Is she the same Tanvi or your other girlfriend? You know Tanvi, right? She said that you know her and even said her name in your last call. Are you giving this to her? It's her birthday today? Tell me!!" Sam shouted at him seeing his mute figure. She was unable to believe that the person they had been searching for was right next to her all this while. Did Tanvi know that he was the one?
"Does Tanvi know who you are? Are you both playing with me because I hurt her? Huh?" Sam again bombarded him with her questions. For a moment, she thought Tanvi had found Sarthak but was not saying it to her.
"You won't answer, right? Wait, I'll call her only. She must be here already." saying this she went to her contacts to call Tanvi as Sarthak was still not responding.
Before she could dial her number, Sarthak snatched her phone from her hand and said, "Let's talk."
"What's there to talk? That you are cheating her? Fooling her and even me? Or maybe you are maintaining two girls, huh? That's why you are not saying anything," snapped Sam. Her anger was cooking the worst imaginations in her head, and she had no control over what she was talking about.
"Please don't talk like that, Miss. Listen to me once," Sarthak said, controlling himself.
"What you want me to listen to? No! You listen to me. Do you know what all we have done to find you. We asked your batchmates about you, thinking at least one person would know about you, but no! No one knows anything other than your name, and a few of them gave us your old number which Tanvi has.
"We again sneaked into the office room and got all your details. We came to your house in May to meet you directly and tell you the truth, but we got to know that you have shifted from the house. We got your father's number but he never answered our calls and any need to mention about your number? It's completely switched off. We kept visiting your house every week with a hope you might come by, or we can get your information, and we did all this for an insensitive jerk like you," she spat.
Sarthak was flabbergasted by this sudden revelation. He knew that Tanvi didn't forget him and wanted to meet him, but she tried this hard to get to him? Soon, after his exams, he had asked his father to switch houses because, every day, he used to hear those school bells which urged him to go to the gate and see her. He was on the verge of doing so once but backed off midway, controlling himself. And to keep his growing obsession in check, he asked his father for a change of place, and they shifted to a house closer to his father's office, in which he was still staying.
Though he admitted that he was at fault, he wouldn't accept it completely. His ego was stopping him from doing the same. And he lost his cool when she called him an insensitive jerk.
"Ohh! Calling me an insensitive jerk doesn't change the fact that your friend was the one who started all this. She didn't even know whom she was talking to for a whole month. And then comes out and says, 'I am sorry for playing with your feelings', 'Please don't call me again'. I did what she asked me, right? I didn't call her or reach out to her ever again. Of course, I agree had she not met here, I would have still hated her, but now I don't. Even I am going to tell her the truth today, and I would like to do it myself. So, please don't interfere now," he said with a stern voice.
Sam understood that Tanvi hadn't told him about her role in this whole ploy. She sighed in disbelief that Sarthak was still blaming Tanvi when he didn't even know what all happened when he was not around.
"Ok. So you have been in this delusion that 'she cheated you' and 'she played with your feelings'. Let me clarify what happened in reality. I guess she didn't mention my role, but it was me who gave her your number. I didn't know there were two seniors named Rohan, so I mistook your number to be that of the other guy's and gave it to her. She trusted me completely and didn't ask anything.
"Before New year's only, I got to know that she had been talking to the wrong person and not Rohan. But I didn't tell her anything as I was jealous and angry at her back then, and later she got to know about you and then you know what all happened. That idiot didn't even reveal my name in this entire drama so that none would think bad about me.
"And did you seriously expect her to be like, 'Ok. I don't mind which Rohan you are. Let's continue to talk' Did you expect such a response?
Who in the world would not get afraid after this much happens? She indeed asked you to not call again because she feared you might do anything bad. At that moment, you became a complete stranger to her, that she didn't think twice before responding to you. She thought it was going to be better for you both, but after few months she started missing you and realized how much she important you had became. She shut off the doors of all her senses and used to live in her trance. Whenever we talked, the last topic we ended up with was you."
Sam breathed in to control her fury. Only she knows how much Tanvi suffered too. How much pain she kept in her heart. She placed a hand on her head and massaged it as it was throbbing because of lack of sleep in the journey last night.
Sarthak was stunned. He stood rooted in his place. Her questions were stabbing him and twisting his heart painfully. Earlier, he thought he understands how she felt, but it was only 1/4 of the pain he had imagined. He understood that she was scared at that time but never imagined her vulnerabilities as a girl. He was always fixated at one point, she asked him not to call her again, but he didn't try to understand what she meant it or not.
Sam looked at his shocked and guilt-ridden face and continued, "What? Feeling guilty for this only? Wait I should answer your last statement right. What did you say? Yes, she met you here, and you got to know the truth. Had you not, you would've hated her forever. Do you think this is some coincidence that you met her and then understood her? No. She expected you would be here and she came here for you. She came here to seek your forgiveness."
Sarthak's heart skipped a beat when he heard those words.
So how is the chapter?
Sam and Sarthak's conversation?
Sam revealing the past and unfolding Tanvi's side story.
And Tanvi coming here for him? Did you expect that?
How will Sarthak take all this?
And am sorry that it's a Cliffhanger again.
I tried to complete the full flashback in this chapter only, but the ending didn't came good and time too is a problem.
Anyway I will update the following chapter soon enough, it possible in this week only or so.
And my classes are taking a heavy toll on me and I guess it is same with many others. Can't help the online classes.
Hope you liked the chapter.
