Chapter 26

Rohan Sarthak's POV:

One YEAR AND SOME MONTHS LATER.

"Wake up, you *******" I felt someone shouting at me. Groaning, I turned around to see why that arse was waking me up so early.

"Get up, R.S. Today, I want to reach to the university earlier," he screamed on me again, but seeing me not move, he kicked me hard on my butt, which landed me on the floor.

"What the ****, Ajay!" I shouted at him, coming to my senses. Then I watched him wear a white t-shirt with a denim jacket and get ready like a model. Well, he indeed looks good without all those extra grooming, but it was like he was going on a date.

"Get ready. I will be leaving in 10 minutes," he said in a rush and immediately turned around to face the mirror, which was covered with soot. What can we expect from hostel life? Definitely not a 5 star hotel-life amenities, right?

"What's happening? Why are you making such a fuss early in the morning?" I said him and went to open the door. As soon as I opened it, I saw all the boys jumping and running in excitement. For a moment, I thought, 'Did they get their degree certificate in 2nd year only?' Why are they this excited.

Before I could ask Ajay what was happening, he started, "Today, our new academic year is commencing, which means we are getting juniors," he stressed on the last word," So everyone, especially every man, is waiting for new faces. That's why everyone is rushing to go to university and try to woo a girl, at least this year, or else we will have to wait one more year to see new faces."

And he went on venting out his frustration about how he remained single all year and how all mechanical guys got, or rather his words 'stole', most of the beautiful girls from our Computer Science batch. Even, I am studying CSE and Ajay is in the ECE branch. Fortunately, we had common syllabus in our first year, but now we have to study different classes.

Still, I am happy to be studying here at Andhra University. The same place where my parents studied. Of course, today, only IITs are considered as a great place of learning, but to me, this place has always been the place I aimed to reach, and I finally did it. Though, sometimes, I don't enjoy it, yet I am happy to be here with my friend and without any nuisance.

Back to juniors topic, I personally have no interest in either girls or in ragging. Though we were ragged pretty bad, I have no intention of ragging any of my juniors, but Ajay is determined to live these moments to the fullest. He wants to do all sorts of teasing to satisfy his inner sadist.

During our ragging period, he got the worst task to carry out as he didn't respect the seniors and ignored the tasks they had assigned. Therefore, as a double punishment the very next day, they made him stand near the entrance and announced him to be the brother of every girl in the college. This continued for more than a month. Every girl who entered  the campus addressed him as their brother, only then they were allowed to enter their classes.

And on the day of Raksha Bandhan, every girl came one after the other and tied those threads around his wrist. No matter how hard he tried to get away from them, they went after him and pleaded with him to let them tie it, or else the seniors would be angry on them. I still remember the count of Rakhis on both his hands, 153. Not only that, most of the girls call him as brother or 'Anna' (which means brother in Telugu) as they don't even know his name. That's the reason why he is looking forward to the freshers, especially the girls.

Finally, after his persuasion, we started the walk to our block. Unlike him and most other boys, I wore a simple outfit, which I usually wear. I really don't care about any such fuss, not after my bitter memory I have.

"How am I looking?" asked Ajay exuberance dripping from his tone while walking. We were walking quite fast as though we were going for our Semester exams. Well, we never went this fast for that either.

"As good as a brother should look," I mocked him. He immediately stopped in his tracks and gave me a death glare. Well, it has become his weak point now. I suppressed my laughter and continued walking, while he came after me, ambling silently.

We reached our block, and instead of going to the class we sat at our spot, a half broken wall, retaining enough area sufficient for us to sit. Beside us, some other members were waiting for juniors while some people were already targeting a few some boys and girls. Most of the juniors looked fearless and carefree, but are still obeying the orders from us. For a moment, it felt nostalgic. We were in their shoes one year ago, and now we became their seniors.

I have heard most of the guys admiring girls. Most of them kept noticing the girls by the color their dress colors. I listened to a few saying, 'Blue dress, Yellow dress. No look at that one, the Red dress.'

"Now, forget everything that happened in your past and live in the present. See how many new colors are there," he exclaimed, completely immersed in the view in front of him.

I gave him a annoyed look. He has been saying this ever since the time we joined here. He knows what happened between me and that girl and how it affected me. Yes, it did affect. No matter how well I was prepared for my 12th board, I didn't had the zeal to write the paper. On top of that, I saw the other Rohan too, whom she confused me. That *******  was sitting close by, so I had to see his disgusting face daily. Finally, after the exams, I immediately left the place. Dad was the one who received all my certificates and other documents from that school. He is still staying in that place only as he didn't get the transfer order, and I am not going there. Mostly he comes to visit me, and we talk daily.

I was brought back to reality when Ajay smacked my shoulder hard.

"Look at the white dress girl. She is beautiful," he said with a spark in his eyes.

I didn't look at anyone. As if I care! After such a terrible experience with one girl, I stayed away from all the others. In this whole year, I can count the encounters I had with girls. Of course, even in past, I never talked to anyone, but now, I have become more estranged from others.

Ok, why was I thinking so much about her today? I looked at Ajay, who was bobbing his head up and down, right and left as if he is searching for someone. I glimpsed ahead, and there were many people standing in front of us. Well, what can we except on the first day of college? The premises would be this crowded only on first and last day, and on the remaining days, it's obviously empty.

In that whole crowd, I observed a figure moving in a white dress. She was walking here and there and, trying to come forward. I don't know what made me curious, but I slightly tilted my head to get a proper view of her. And when I finally got to see who she was, my pupils dilated, my mouth opened wide. Was I hallucinating?  What is she doing here? Why the heck is she here even?

TANVI.

The person whom I never wanted to see is now walking towards me.

Tanvi's POV:

"Hey, white and blue?" I heard someone call someone. Or was it me? I turned around to confirm it, and there I saw three boys, two sitting on a bike and one standing beside them. I pointed one finger at myself, trying to clarify whether they were calling me or not, and unfortunately, they called me to go to them.

"Shit," I cursed under my breath. I hoped to escape these people today, but my ill luck!

I slowly reached them and stood before them, maintaining some distance between us. I glanced at their faces. They were eyeing me as though they measured some treasure, so focused and concentrated. Few moments passed, and none said anything. Why to wait here uselessly? I thought and asked them, "Do you need anything?"

"See these juniors. They do not even wish us and are now asking if we need anything," said the tall guy among them.

This was gonna be tough. I greeted them. Then they asked me to give my Intro. I slowly told my basic details, but before they could proceed with further questions, they asked another girl to come over. I peered at the other girl. She is very lean and tall, dusky complexion, bright eyes. She looked good. Thanks to her, the senior's eyes were on her. They asked the same questions that I have answered. How long should I wait? I thought as I was standing there for past 30 minutes.

"Hey, both of you dance now. After that, you can go back to your classes. Ok?" again the tall fellow said this.

Like hell, I would dance. Seriously? Did they thinking this was some kind of dance show or what? I didn't say anything but stared at them and then at the girl beside me. Even she was shocked. Then I glimpsed around. Everyone was doing something or the other task, so I don't think we had a chance, but I wanted to clarify and ask them again, I thought.

Fortunately, the bell rang before I could ask them, and they also left us, not before taking our phone numbers. After my previous misadventure, I got to know the value of numbers and calls, so I gave them the wrong number. I hope they won't find that out.

So the other girl and I went ahead to search for our class.

"Which group?" she asked me coming close to my side.

"CSE. You?" I asked her, hoping she would be with me. Luckily she was also same group.

"Btw, I am Jiya. You?" she said, extending her hand for a shake. I smiled at her and said my name. I wondered for a moment. Had it been a year ago, I would have been more confident, friendly, and talkative. I don't where all those qualities went away. Now, I just want to be clam and live without hurting anyone.

But thanks to Jiya, I could talk to her. She is very lively and has a warm personality. I never thought I would find a friend so soon, but it felt like she came searching for me. Since it was our first day, we just had an introduction session and nothing more.

"So would you have danced had the bell not rung?" I asked her during our lunch time. By then, even I had become comfortable with her. We got to know few information about each other, and must know even more, which would happen eventually.

"Maybe yes. I like dancing. So, had they played any song of my liking, then why not?" she said, and then we continued talking more.

"So where are staying now?" she asked me while we were leaving.

"Right now, in my Dad's friend house. Must search for a hostel," I said. It gets a bit uncomfortable staying at other's place and that too for a long time. So I have cleared it out with my parents that I would stay in an hostel as soon as I find a good one.

"Hey, then you can join mine. It's near to our university only. Two persons per room. Currently, I stay alone, so you can join me," she said it fast and with excitement. I smiled at her thought for a moment.

"Ok. Then let's see it now only," I said and went along with her.

I prayed to God. Hope nothing goes wrong with my life here, and I hope I will fulfill my personal goal.
