Chapter 25

Writer's POV

The air was still. As soon as Tanvi told everything, Rohan fell silent. It felt like he was hallucinating or misheard.

"Nice jo-joke, Tan. I won't fall for it," Rohan Sarthak said slowly, just wishing it was prank she played on him.

Tanvi gasped, regretting saying all of it to him. She knew one day she would have to confess, and he would react this way. And that day was today. She had to clear all the misunderstandings so that both could be peaceful again.

"It's the truth.....I am sorry for everything," Tanvi said, sobbing.

Rohan didn't know what to say. He felt like the world around him got shattered. That means all the talks, jokes, confessions, and feelings meant nothing? Was I just a wrong number to her? Just a wrong person? he thought.

He waited for her to talk. He wanted her to say it was just a joke and shouldn't be taking it seriously, but he remembered how things changed ever since she wished him assuming it was his birthday. He never had a proper and normal conversation after that. All the time, she had been ignoring him like he had pestered her to do long ago.

Even Tanvi was waiting for him to talk. She expected him to lash out at her, but this calmness was suffocating her even more.

"Rohan...." Tanvi called for him slowly.

"I want to meet you. Let's meet," Rohan said it very deeply. He had processed everything she said, almost, but once, he wants to meet her. He wanted to clear the air face to face.

On the other hand, Tanvi was scared listening to this. Ever since she got to know the truth, she started to treat him like a stranger, and now meeting him was something she didn't wish to do. She just wanted to end everything. Certainly, not happily, but she was too afraid to face him.

"No, I mean... I am sorry for all these things. Let's end this like this. We don't know each other anyway. I assumed you were someone else, but you're not the one, and you don't know me from first so..." before she could complete her sentence, he cut her off, "I know you, TANVI. I ******* know you even if you don't know me. So, I want us to meet. Let's meet at school tomorrow. "

Tanvi stopped breathing for a while. He knew me. He knew her name. She remained motionless for a minute. Her mental strength was weakening every minute because of the the number of facts she was listening every moment. Now she know that apart from her, everyone had been living in the real world while she was living in her own fantasy world.

She didn't know what to do. So, she immediately disconnected the call. For now, that's the only thought that popping in her mind, and she took the step. She even switched the phone off and stayed still between all the mess she had created in the room.

Earlier, she thought she would feel better after telling him the truth, but now, she was feeling even more burdened and guilty. Then Samyuktha's words rang in her ears, 'Only if you had approached him directly'. It was a fact. Everything was indeed her fault, because of her stupid idea and her senseless feelings, all of this happened. With all these thoughts, Tanvi started hating herself more then ever.

On the contrary, Rohan Sarthak was feeling nothing, not even anger. Even after Tanvi ended the call, he was still holding it close to his ear, clutching it so tight that his knuckles turned white. What was happening in his life? he asked himself. He was still dazed by her revelations.

Everything was good till she called him, but everything changed the moment she uttered those life shattering words, and he was broken like a piece of glass. Rohan tried reaching out to her again. He knew she must have also gotten scared. Even he didn't know what he wanted to say to her. She clearly told him that she wanted to end everything. Did that mean this one month's worth of talks meant nothing to her?

That night, he fell silent again, and his father sensed the sudden change in behaviour.

"Is everything ok, Rohan?" his dad asked him. He didn't even look in his dad's side. He simply shook and went inside his room. He was still thinking about her. How could she do that to me?

Next day, he went to school in evening. This time, he stood right in front of the gate, waiting for her to come out, but he had already guessed that she might not be at school after the disastrous events of the previous day. And as he had expected, she didn't come. He remained still in his place even when the place became silent once everyone left. He was still hoping she would come out even after knowing it was no longer possible.

He slowly made his way towards his home with many foreign emotions filling his mind and heart. He never termed this relationship to be love or anything. To him, it was a beautiful friendship, which he never thought would end, but now there was nothing left anymore. No name, no feelings. Nothing.

He finally reached home to find his father waiting for him. Today, he had reached home early, while Rohan was too late. His Dad kept observing his pale face, which looked so broken and hopeless.

"Is it relating to her?" asked Rohan's father.

Rohan looked into his father's eyes and replied, "There is nothing relating to her, Dad. No longer."

                                                                                           ***

A week had passed by.

Tanvi hadn't gone to school this whole week. She remained inside her home, inside her room. Her parents again believed her excuses of not being well and assumed that was why she was dull. In this one week, she didn't get proper sleep, didn't eat properly. She was too preoccupied with her guilt, and something else is also bothering her, which she was unable to understand. Bringing her out of her trance of thoughts her phone started ringing.

The phone started ringing .

Tanvi was too scared to answer the call. She was not ready to face him or even hear him. She wanted to run far away from the present, but she couldn't avoid her present. She didn't talk to him for the past one week, and he had called her many times.

That day alone he had called her 5 times. So, now she answered the phone to cut off everything once and for all.

"Hello", he spoke out as soon as Tanvi answered the call.

Tanvi's voice was shaking. She didn't know what to say, but she mustered up her courage, "Please don't contact me again. I know I have played with your feelings without knowing who you are. I know I have committed a terrible mistake, or I guess a sin, by doing this, but now I want to end this for once and for all. I don't think you can understand me or forgive me, but the only explanation I can offer is that I am really sorry."

He remained silent all this while and did not utter a sound. He came to know that nothing was left for him to talk about. He disconnected the call as soon as she completed her words.

.

.

As soon as he ended the call, she began crying aloud. She expected or hoped him to scold her, shout at her and make her feel even more blameworthy, but he silently disconnected the call. She asked him not to call her so that he wouldn't have any further problem from her. She knew she had created enough mess in everyone's life, and now she did not want to be a burden on anyone. She didn't deserve any comfort.

"Hope he will taunt me, curse me, and eventually forget about me, thinking I am just a bad memory," That was the only thing she wished for him.

On the other side, Rohan sat motionless across his father on the dining table. Rohan told his father everything after the latter persuaded Rohan him to. His father, too, was shocked by all these sudden revelations and how his son got himself in this mess. He became angry at Tanvi, but later, he realized she hadn't done this purposefully. So, he asked Rohan to assure her that he wouldn't make her feel uncomfortable and would consider her as a friend, but she had asked him to never call her again.

After few minutes of silence, Rohan chuckled with a hard expression on his face, which his father didn't understand.

"Rohan.." his dad tried to comfort his son, but before he could say further, Rohan cut him off.

"Don't call me that, Dad. Don't call me Rohan. We reached this crossroad because even my name is same as her crush's," he said, slowly stressing every word.

"Don't think like that, son. It's not your fault," his father said.

"I know, Dad." he said and laughed again, "I am just recollecting how much of a fool I was. Such an imbecile I was, that I...I..." the words never left his mouth, and his feelings remained in his heart only.

"It's not my fault. I know, it's that ***** fault. ******* *****. I the very first time she called me, I thought that she was indeed a shameless girl, but still, I talked with her. And she thought I am some other *******." He spat venomous words in his fury, beginning to lose his control, and didn't even bother with the  fact that his father was right there.

He momentarily closed his eyes to get a hold of himself. Even though there was no fault on his side, he tried to comfort her, as he did on New Year's. That was the reason why he called her, just to be with her as a friend, to want her as his friend, but she spoiled everything.

"Rohan.." again his father tried to talk to him, but again, got off cut by Rohan.

"Don't, Dad. Just don't. I have another name, right? Sarthak. Call me that from today. I don't want to be called by that name too. It's reminding me of that *****."

He kept cursing her, and his father didn't like this behaviour of his son. He knew that his son was in pain, but that doesn't give him right to degrade a girl's character. Still, he kept listening his son's taunts until he said something which snapped his father's patience.

"All women are bloody *******."

"Enough, Rohan Sarthak. Enough! In all those women's list, there will be your mother too. I know you are heartbroken, but that doesn't give you any right to accuse a girl. Is this what I taught you?" His father raised his voice to bring his son back under control.

Rohan stared at his father for a moment, anger coursing through his veins, "Yes, Dad. This is what you taught me. Asking me about her, asking me to wish her, and asking me to ask her to be friends with me. This is all you taught me, and even now....you are supporting HER. Great! Who is your child? It feels like she is more important to you than me." he shouted on his father.

It was the first time he shouted at him, and even his father was hurt seeing his son so broken. After a long time, he saw tears in his eyes.

He understood that his son had fallen for her so hard that her rejection has broke him. He extended his hand to reach out to him, but Rohan backed away. He looked away from his father, and his eyes fell on his phone. Anger gushed in his body again, and he picked up his phone, throwing it so hard that it got broken into two pieces.

"She asked me to never call her, right? Ok, I will never call her, will never see her and will never even think about her. I will forget her. I will forget everything about this place." he said still looking at his broken phone with rage in his eyes. Then he gaped at his father, who was still waiting for his son to get a hold of himself. His eyes softened for a bit remembering how he shouted at his father a moment ago. It was all because of you Tanvi, and I will never forgive you for that, he thought and continued, "I will leave this place as soon as my exams are over, Dad. I will stay Ajay's, and we both will prepare for AUEET."( it's Andhra University exam, if you want to know why only this place he wants to go then refer chapter 3 again.)

Even he didn't know whether he would be able to stay at Ajay's place or not. He just wanted to leave this place and said what came to his mind. He didn't even wait for his Dad's response and barged into his room, slamming the door hard.

No matter how much he tried to sleep, it was nowhere in sight. His mind only wandered towards her. Even earlier, he used to think about her, but at that time, it was full of feelings. But now it was filled with hatred, disgust, and despise.

"Never come in front me ever again, Tanvi. Let's end everything as you said. If you ever come before me again, then you will face the consequences," he said to himself, more like promised.

. . . . . .

Three months passed by. After the day when she asked him not contact her again, he never contacted her. To Tanvi, it felt like he had vanished into thin air. When she asked him not contact her again, she didn't expect him to be so compliant. She thought he would somehow reach her, confront her, and do even more things, but nothing like that happened. Still, she was not happy.

That day, she thought all her problems would be solved after ending the mess, but after that day, she never felt lively. She became even more irregular to school. Even Samyuktha had fallen silent. She never disturbed Tanvi cause she was busy with some other work, a way to help Tanvi.

Everyone started to worry about Tanvi. No matter how hard everyone tried to make her speak her heart out, she never revealed anything, and how could she when she knew what kind of unforgivable and shameful act she did. She never said anything to anyone.

It was her birthday, and she had no interest in any celebrations. But to her luck, her parents decided to spend the whole evening with her, to make her feel better. Wish they had behaved better with her in this way sometime back.

As she waited for her parent's arrival, there came a person to wish her. As Tanvi heard the doorbell, she opened the door and there stood Samyuktha. They stared at each other for a moment. It had been a long time since she had come to meet Tanvi.

"Happy birthday Tan," said Samyuktha with a small smile, still standing at the doorstep.

Tanvi looked at her for a moment and smiled back, asking her to come in. They both behaved too formally with one another, which they have never been before.

"How are you?" both asked each other in unison, breaking the silence. Both smiled at each other, and after a long time, they were having a peaceful conversation.

"We both know we are not good," said Tanvi slowly, with a small smile, to which Samyuktha only smiled.

"Sam....I want to say something," said Tanvi and Samyuktha looked at her shocked. After a long time Tanvi had called her Sam and she continued, "I am sorry, Sam. Sorry for everything. What you said is true. Had I not had such a crazy obsession, something like this would not have happened. Everything happened because of me. I am sorry, yaar." By the time she had succumbed to a fit of tears.

Seeing her strong friend in such a weak state, Samyuktha immediately reached out to her and hugged her tightly.

"I missed you, Sam," said Tanvi, still sobbing in her embrace.

"It's not your fault alone, Tan. I am more liable for everything. I am so sorry, Tanvi," said Samyuktha. Even she became emotional now.

Finally, both Tanvi and Samyuktha got some peace with each other as they regained some part of their lost peace. Tanvi told Samyuktha what all happened in her absence between Rohan and herself.

"Tan, I have something to tell. Last week, I again sneaked into office room, and this time I took the exact details of the persons" said Samyuktha, this was the work she intended to do.

Tanvi looked at her with a horror filled expression. Why did she do this again?

Samyuktha just smiled at her reaction and told her, "His name is Rohan Sarthak. This is the address in the register" and she gave her a slip.

Tanvi took the paper from her hand and slowly whispered his name again," Rohan Sarthak"

Wish I had met him.

Wish I had met him once, she thought. But she knew that she could never change what happened, because of her.

Finally, the truth is out, and the school phase came to an end.

Soon they will meet. Face to face. Excited???
