Our conversation ended there.
I refused to speak of her.
When we got to the griever, it was smashed between 2 walls, not far from the East gate.
"Why did you lead us this way Min? We easily could've gone through the east gate to here" I wined.
"The maze changes every night, princess, did you forget?" he replied.
I didn't reply, but they both giggled.
I walked up to the griever, and saw a piece if metal, with a flashing button in its leg.
Guts filled with wires were disconnected from the body piece. Immediately, I started ripping the leg apart, knowing that If I get rid of that metal part, the griever could fully die.
I grunted as I pulled the leg off, but only managed it to slightly rip.
"A little help here?!" I exclaimed to Minho and Thomas, who were giggling at me.
They're so childish sometimes!!!!
I wanted to release my anger, so I pulled the hardest.
"Geez Mel, did the creators inject you with steroids?" Asked Thomas.
"Shut up" I said.
"Why did we cut off the leg?" Asked Minho.
I bent down and detached the metal piece. It didn't stop blinking. The piece was covered with slime, or saliva. Couldn't quite make out what it was, but it the button suddenly turned green, instead of red, and it had the number 7 glowing on it.
"We need to go to section 7" I ordered, showing them the leg, "Now".
There was not time to debate. We had little time until the doors close.
W.I.C.K.E.D
When we were close to the 7th section, right by the wooden blades, the metal prt started to beep.
I panicked, and threw it to Thomas.
"Gaah!" I said, throwing it to him.
"Mel, what the hell! What if it exploded!? I could've died!" He exclaimed.
"So? I would still be alive!" I yelled back, trying not to laugh. Its these little moments of humor that get us gladers. We're so used to surrounding ourselves with dark, and twisty thoughts. Having at least some fun can brighten everyone up.
"Guys" said Minho.
"What?" We both asked.
"That 'battery' thing is starting to beep more and more. I think its showing us which way to go" he replied.
"Thomas" I said
"Yeah?" He asked, whiling off his smile.
"You wanted to be a runner" I answered.
"Its time to test your skills" Minho finished off for me.
W.I.C.K.E.D
We got to an area that I recognized.
Then It got to me.
We were by the exit.
"This is where I left the maze" I blurted out.
"Its a dead end though" said Minho.
"It'll open" I said.
"Mel, what if it's not really the exit? I mean, you were captured and used as a subject" said Minho.
That got me wondering. What if he was right?
"This is the inly way out of the maze as far as I know. Whatever is out there, is better than the glade" I said.
"You were in a coma for 8 months, how would you know?" Asked Thomas
"Before that they treated me like a human. I'm bot saying that we should trust W.I.C.K.E.D, but we need to leave the maze, sooner or later. We could run out of resources at any point..." I explained.
We were still at the dead end, and Minho was swinging the battery in front of the wall, as if it was a key to a missing door.
Suddenly, a red laser started scanning us, and thin walls started to drop down.
"Run!" I yelled, as we fled out.
Minho placed the piece into his 'pouch', as we fled out.
Minefields started going off, the wooden blades started to spin.
"Don't look back!" Commanded Minho.
We ran faster, and faster. Pillars started to fall, and we were cornered. Another dead end.
I looked to the right, and saw a button, but it looked like a rock, but also like a button.
Without even thinking, I pressed against it, when a wall started to close us in. The minefields exploding went quiet.
Suddenly, water started to rise. It was rising quick.
Each second it rose by at least 2 meters.
Im going to die. I thought.
Nope.
The creators wont let us Lab Rats die. It'll be a waste.
The wall, opposite from the one that trapped us in, began to open in half, letting some of the water out.
It was opening faster than expected, and at this point it was a make it or break it situation.
"Over here!!!" I yelled, and began swimming towards it.
Minho, and Thomas crawled through the passage, and Jumped down from a not-so-high height.
I was crawling through, and stood up, since the wall opening separated a bit more, and looked down.
The platform I was standing on began to rise.
It felt like jumping from the empire state building. Not that I know how it looks like, but by what I heard, its pretty high.
I started getting dizzy.
"Jump down Mel!" Yelled Thomas.
I looked down again. It kept getting higher, and higher.
"She cant. She's afraid of heights" remembered Minho.
Out of everything, Grievers, Gigantic Bugs, Gally, the Creators, death, I just HAD to be afraid of heights.
That was the last thing I remembered thinking before, when I fell down, shut my eyes, and blacked out.
