HARRY

I pull into the nearest parking lot next to the Dykstra hall, putting the car in park and closing the door behind me when I climb out. I look up at the tall building, trying to figure out how to get to Kevin's room next. I needed to find out what exactly else it was that Madison had done to Kay, and I needed to find out quick. I don't trust her at all and it's making me nervous knowing Kay is with her right now.

Just as I'm walking up the path that leads to the entrance, the sliding doors open and a group of lads walk through them. I recognize one of them from the group that we had played volleyball with at the beach and quickly step in front of the walk way of the group, making them come to a stop.

"Hey," I say pointedly to the lad from the beach. "You know Kevin right?"

He looks at me, his head tilting as he studies my face until his features change into recognition. "Oh hey, you were the guy who spiked the ball at Maddie's face right? Harry was it?"

"Yeah that's me." I answer, stuffing my hands into the pockets of my jeans. "I didn't catch your name?"

"Jacob. That was priceless by the way, bitch deserved it." He chuckles and his friends laugh along with him.

I laugh hesitantly then change the subject, getting to the point. "Yeah, do you think you can take me to Kevin's dorm? I need to speak to him."

"Yeah sure." He turns to his friends and nods towards the parking lot. "Just wait for me in the car, I'll be back down in a second."

They nod and wave to me before they walk across the street, and I turn around to follow Jacob into the entrance of the dormitory. There's a man standing behind a counter reading a book, but he doesn't even bother to look up from it as we walk past him. Jacob opens a wooden door to reveal several sets of stairs leading up, and he motions me to follow him as he begins to walk up them. Numbers are at the end of each stair way, and we don't stop until we've reached the third floor.

He opens another wooden door and steps out into a light up hallway. We walk past several doors, some with white boards hanging from it with names scribbled on it. He stops at the end of the hallway and knocks on the door, when no one answers he knocks again but louder.

"Hey Kevin! Open the door!"

He knocks one more time before I hear the click of the door unlocking, and the door swings open to reveal a half awake Kevin standing in the doorway. He blinks several times, lifting the back of his hand to rub his eyes. When he drops his hand he takes a long look at me, his eyebrows pulling together in confusion.

"Harry? What are you doing here?" He asks.

"We need to talk." I state and he nods his head, opening his door wider for me to enter. I thank Jacob before he walks away and saunter into Kevin's room, briefly observing the mess on one side of the room, while the other side is clean. I scrunch my nose in disgust when I see a used condom lying on the floor of the messy side, and Kevin catches my look.

"Sorry, my roommate is kind of a slob."

"Yeah I can tell." I move to sit at the desk near the window, observing the papers that lie on top of it as Kevin sinks back down onto his bed.

"So what is it you needed to talk about?" He asks, leaning back on his hands.

I rest my elbows on my knees and push my hair back, tugging it lightly in agitation. "Madison. I need to know what it is she did to Kaydence."

"You know, I'm really surprised you don't know. Most people that are friends with Madison do."

"Mate, I'm not friends with her. Just tell me what it is she did."

He turns his lips to the side. "Why does this all matter so much?"

"Because Kay is with Madison right now and I don't trust her at all and Kay doesn't deserve to get hurt anymore, she's had enough of that in her life so can you please just tell me?"

Kevin nods but stands from the bed, walking to a small closet in the corner of the room where he pulls out a pair of vans, slipping them on. He walks to the edge of the desk I'm sitting at and grabs his keys, then nods for me to follow as he walks towards the door.

"I'll tell you on the way."

"On the way to what?"

"To Madison's room." He glances back at me as he closes the door behind him after we've walked out. "Once you hear everything, you're going to want Kay as far away from her as possible."

KAYDENCE

I knock on the door to my old room, noticing the sock that's on the door knob after I've already knocked. There's mumbling on the other side, and a groan before I hear the footsteps of someone walking towards the door. Madison opens it, her blonde hair is disheveled and sticking up around her and she's standing in a pink bra while the top button of her jeans is unbuttoned. Her eyes widen at the sight of me, and she looks around me in confusion.

"Um, hey? What are you doing here?" She asks, leaning against the door.

"I need to talk to you...but I can go if it's a bad time." I say, eyeing the guy moving behind her as he tries to slip his jeans back on.

"No it's fine." She looks over her shoulder at the half naked guy. "You need to leave."

"But-"

"Leave." She demands, and he picks up his shirt off the floor and quickly walks past me as he exits the room. Once he's walking down the hallway Madison motions me inside the room, and I can't help but notice that my side is already filled again. I automatically move to sit on the bed, but hesitate. It isn't my room anymore, and It's a habit to feel like it still is.

"Do you like your new roommate?" I ask Madison, before I finally decide to just sit at the edge of the bed. She moves to her dresser and pulls out a black tank top, pulling it over her head.

"Well it's Julie." She says shortly, brushing her hair back down. I can't help but feel the slight jealousy that it was Julie who took my place. I never liked her.

"That's cool."

"Mhm," Madison sits on her bed cross-legged, then flips her hair over her shoulder before giving me her full attention. "So, what did you need to talk about?"

I press my lips together, keeping my gaze on the wall behind Madison as I fiddle with the whole in my jeans. "My mom died."

The room is silent and all I hear is the air conditioning coming out of the vent, and the sound of my heart beating in my ears. Madison doesn't say anything for a long time, until finally she gets up from the bed and moves to sit next to me. She slides her arm around my head and pulls me down to lay it on her shoulder.

"I'm so sorry Kay." She says softly.

My eyes sting, and I blink it away along with swallowing the lump that grows at the back of my throat. "It's okay."

"No it's not, I can hear it in your voice." I don't respond and she pulls me back so she can look at me. "What else is wrong?"

I shrug and push a strand of hair behind my ear. "I think Harry took my notebook and he won't come clean about it."

Madison doesn't say anything but her eyes flicker momentarily to the other side of the room before she turns to look at me again. "Why do you think he took it? Maybe you just misplaced it."

"No, I remember putting it in my car and it's not there."

"Well maybe it will just turn up."

"I don't know, maybe."

"Did you go to the funeral?" She asks, changing the subject as she starts to play with a strand of her hair. She's nervous. But why?

"No, I just found out yesterday and I missed it."

"That fucking blows."

"Yeah."

We both don't say anything for a few minutes, and Madison's eyes keep darting around. I am about to ask her what is wrong with her when a loud knock on the door interrupts me. Madison is quick to stand up as if she is almost relieved that someone is there and runs to open it.

"What the fuck?"

I turn my head to look at the door and my eyes nearly pop out of my sockets when I see Harry standing in the doorway, Kevin standing behind him. He narrows his eyes at Madison, then turns his gaze towards me and it automatically softens.

"Kay, I need to tell you something."

"Harry, please go." I don't want to talk to anyone right now but Madison.

"No, Kay we really need to talk."

"She said to leave." Madison says, and Harry's eyes snap to meet Madison's and I feel like I'm missing something when his eyes flash with so much anger, and hers show so much guard.

"Are you going to fucking tell her or should I?"

Madison's face falls immediately and she looks at Kevin, who has his chin up and his arms crossed over his chest. His stance is dominant and I don't miss the small turn up of his lips when Madison's hands ball into fist.

"Tell me what?"

No one answers, and Harry gestures for Madison to 'go on', but she shakes her head, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms over her chest.

"Nothing, they're being stupid. Do you want him here or not?"

"Fuck it, I'll tell her then." Madison opens her mouth to respond but Harry ignores her and walks into the room and towards me. "There's something I have been keeping from you."

"Kay, he's full of it don't listen to him." Madison says, sticking her nose into the air.

I ignore her and look at Harry, leaning away cautiously. "What...?"

He bites the inside of his cheek and sighs, before reaching out to grab my hands in his. "Remember when Nicole said all those things about you when we went out to lunch with everyone? And you had been wondering how she knew about you getting kicked out?"

"Yeah..." Where was he going with this?

"Well I spoke to Nicole when I was back in England. She apologized about all that by the way, but what she told me was that the reason she had known is because Madison called her and told her you were some sort of drug addict and that's why you got kicked out."

Madison laughs behind him and shakes her head. "Wow, that really is a new low for you Harry. It's bullshit Kay, don't fall for it."

"You're lying." I whisper.

Harry doesn't look away from me and tightens his hold on my hands when I try to pull away. "There's more. Tell her Kevin."

Kevin steps into the room and walks to the other side of Harry, coming into my view. He looks at me with sympathy and my heart pounds loudly as I wonder why.

"Kevin shut the fuck up." Madison hisses through her teeth.

He glares at Madison before turning back to me. "When you got kicked out, you thought it was because the disciplinary board automatically assumed you were the one who started the party, just cause you got left there. Well they didn't. Madison went to them and turned you in. She told them it was you who had started the party and that she had just walked in to take a swim when she saw the mess we were making, the mess you started."

I don't say anything. I feel all the life being sucked out of me little by little everyday, and right now more of it is being taken. I don't know what to believe, but from the way my stomach turns and my blood runs cold, I think I already know that they aren't lying to me. I just don't want it to be true.

"Kay, seriously this is fucking ridiculous." Madison says.

"She has your notebook." Kevin says, and my head snaps to look at him.

"What?" I breathe out, pulling my hands away from Harry.

"It's black right? And looks old? She has it. She was reading it out loud to her friends the other day. I didn't know it was yours until Harry told me just now you were missing it. I'm so sorry."

My breathing quickens and I look over at Madison, who has her face turned up in anger. She doesn't look at me but at Alex. I take a step away from Harry and move to stand in her line of vision. When I do, she finally looks at me and the guilt washes over her features and its then I know it's true.

"Do you have it?" I ask her, my voice cold. I already know the answer but I want to hear her say it, to hear her admit what she has done wrong. But she doesn't answer me and instead turns her gaze to the wall. I don't waste anymore time and move to her desk where I know she keeps her important things. I start pulling open the drawers and throwing out all her contents, hearing Madison yelling at me somewhere behind me.

"What the fuck! Stop touching my stuff!" Madison runs up next to me and tries to pull me away from the desk but I easily shove her away. I continue to throw things out of her drawer, then close it to check the next one until I finally spot the black cover. I stop, and all the air is sucked out of me. My eyes sting and I am no longer able to keep the tears from spilling over. She really fucking took it, they are not lying. She really did betray me. Again.

I pick it up slowly, and open it to the first page and my heart literally breaks. The poem I had written about my brother is barely readable as it is not covered with drawing and words like 'Bitch' and 'whore' sprawled all over it. I turn to the next page, and find the same thing. I flip to the next. It's the same. Flip flip flip, and it's all the fucking same. Every word I've ever written is destroyed.

I finally look up at Madison and she looks more angry then sorry and I have the sudden urge to punch her but I don't. I stay standing where I am, and toss my notebook on the floor between us.

"You think that was okay? You think going through my notebook, reading it out loud to your fucking friends, and destroying it was an okay thing to do?" My voice raises, and I notice momentarily that people have gathered at the doorway but I don't even care right now.

"It's not like it's a fucking secret that your dad raped you."

I flinch from her words, and from the side of my eye I notice Harry does too. I swallow the lump and take deep breaths. Calm down Kay.

"It was actually. I trusted you enough to tell you." I say through clenched teeth.

"It's your own fault then for trusting me."

"You think this is my fault? What did I ever do to you to deserve this?"

"It always is." She ignores my second question and takes a step towards me, her face a complete mask from the girl I had told all my secrets to. "Just like it was your fault your dad raped you. Just like how it was your fault your brother died."

Before I can even stop myself my arm is in the air and flying towards Madison's face. My fist connects with her nose hard and she stumbles back, falling on her ass. She cries out in pain, bringing her hand to her nose and before she can even get up I'm screaming and am on top of her, punching her again and again. She fights me back, pulling my hair and I scream when It feels like she has ripped some of it out. I kick her and i faintly hear the shouts of some people cheering us on, while others are yelling for us to stop. Madison brings her nails to my neck, scratching me hard and I feel the blood drip down my collarbone. I pull her hair and she screams when I've actually pulled a good piece out, then punch her one more time in the jaw before I'm being ripped away from her. I struggle against whoever is holding me, screaming at Madison as tears stain my cheeks and I try to pull their arms away from my waist.

"Babe, relax it's me." Harry's voice is in my ear, and I automatically stop struggling and slump against his body. He sets me on my feet just as Madison stands up, wiping blood away from her lip. Even though I've hurt her physically it's not enough. I want her to hurt just as much as I have, I want it to feel like her heart has been ripped open just like mine has felt for the last several years. She wasn't responsible for the beginning of my pain, but she did add to it.

I keep my eyes on her as I walk back to the drawer and pull out the thing that is most valuable to her. Her eyes widen when she sees the picture frame that belonged to her grandma in my hand, along with the last note she had ever received from her. Part of me knows what I'm about to do is so fucking wrong, but she destroyed the only thing I had left of me. My notebook was me. It was my every thought I've ever had, my feelings in there that I can never write again word for word. It was me and she ruined it.

Before I can think any further I lift the frame in my hand just as she yells for me to stop and I see the horror on her face as I throw it with so much anger across the room as it smashes and shatters against the wall and falls to the floor. Madison automatically runs to the mess on the floor, kneeling down and grabbing it in her hand, trying to fix it. But that's the thing, you can't fix something that's already broken.

"How could you do this?!" She screams at me, as she looks up at me from across the room. She sees the note in my hand, and tears run down her face when she sees the lighter I've pulled from my pocket in my other hand.

"Don't please." She says through sobs. I stare at her, at the broken girl sitting in the shattered glass. She's pathetic, and horrible. She's cruel, and probably always will be. But I am not. I'm not her. I won't ever stoop down to her level, and that's why I slide the lighter back into my pocket as I pick up my notebook from the floor. I walk over to her, glass shattering under my feet, and look down at the mascara leaking from her eyes.

"I'm not going to. Not because I care, but because I am not a royal bitch like you. You'll get what's coming to you, someday." I toss the note at her and turn to walk out of the room as I push my way past the crowd in the doorway and run down the hall, ignoring the faint sound of Harry calling my name.
