Chapter 7 - The Prototype

Standing on the edge of the catwalk, Gabriel found himself frozen in place. He couldn't move, he couldn't speak. His eyes never once strayed away from the dark abyss that Huggy Wuggy had just fallen into. There was no sign of the giant toy covered in blue fur. Worst still, Gabriel couldn't hear Huggy anymore. All that was left were the smears of blood on the pipes below. Legs shaking underneath him, the middle aged man dropped to his knees.

And then he cried.

Tears rolled down Gabriel's face. He didn't bother stopping them. Yes, Huggy had obviously tried to kill him. But the toy was somehow alive. Gabriel wasn't sure how that could be possible. But he was! And seeing the toy in despair broke Gabriel's heart. He could still hear the whimpering in his ears. The man covered his teary eyes behind his hands.

A small noise caught Gabriel's attention. It sounded like something small had been dropped. Uncovering his face, the middle aged man discovered a gray vhs tape laying in front of him. Conveniently, there was also a small tv sitting in a corner a couple of feet away. Curious and a little spooked, Gabriel wiped his eyes dry before he picked up the tape. It wouldn't hurt to watch it, right? He inserted the vhs tape into the tv. Static hissed first, then the tape played.

It seemed normal at first. A man was speaking, talking about science stuff and mysterious events of the day. A noun was introduced. Experiment 1006. The Prototype. Whatever that was supposed to mean. The man speaking referred to Experiment 1006 as "he" like he was a person. He praised "him." He talked about the mysterious events of the day being in relationship with "him." And all the while Gabriel could hear screaming and roaring in the background. There was an attack of some kind going on. Yet this man kept talking as he declared, "...we must forge on in the name of science. Whether those who are beneath us understand it or not! End of-"

The tape was cut off.

His heart now full of dread, Gabriel stared at the tv screen for the longest time. What was going on in this place?! This was insane! He shouldn't be here. He should have never come back! Feeling confident in his decision to leave this forsaken toy factory for good, the middle aged man turned around.

His eyes immediately landed on the graffiti of a huge red poppy flower surrounding a door.
