Chapter 26 - Train Crash

"I have to hand it to you Gabriel, you're pretty good at fixing problems big and small," Poppy's voice crackled over the communication device. Gabriel was surprised to hear her voice on the other end. Picking it up, the man answered warily, "Um, thank you? Hey, are you on the train? I thought you were coming with me-"

"I've hoped and prayed for years that someone like you would come and save this place from its horrors. And now, here you are," Poppy interrupted. It was at this moment Gabriel realized that the communication was only one way. Poppy would never be able to hear a word he said to her. Left with no other option as the train approached two paths, the middle aged man listened as the doll continued to ramble, "I know things here haven't been exactly what you expected. You've had to face one obstacle after another. And yet you always came out on top. You're perfect, too perfect to lose. I'm sorry, I can't let you leave."

The train started turning to the right path.

"Huh? Hey- WAIT!" Gabriel shouted, jumping into action. However, it was too late. The train was going down the wrong path. His hands grabbing at his long dark hair, the man yelled, "Are you kidding me right now Poppy?! What the heck?!"

"I've been stuck in that case for oh so long. Long enough to formulate my plan," Poppy rambled on, "And I have the final piece I needed; you. Yes, you Gabriel. I know whatever challenges we may face, you're capable of taking care of it. You and I will be able to fix everything wrong in the factory- huh? What's-"

The communication device cut out, now left to buzz with static. Feeling an overwhelming sense of anger and betrayal, Gabriel threw the device out the window. It was then he realized just how fast the train was going. Alarms blared and warning signs flashed. Grabbing the brake, Gabriel pulled as hard as he could. He needed to get this thing to stop. He pulled and pulled with all of his might but it didn't seem to work.

Suddenly, there was a large snap as the brake broke loose. Falling backwards, Gabriel smacked his head on the floor of the cab. His ears ringing, he stumbled to his feet and looked out the front window just as the train rounded the corner and something blue crashed against the windshield. Unable to withstand the force, the train toppled over onto its side. Smacking his head again, Gabriel laid on his back, unable to move. Blinking his eyes slowly while his ears kept ringing, he spotted a sign outside. Playcare... wasn't that the orphanage? He couldn't think straight right now. What he needed was some sleep...

Everything went black...
