Chapter 18 - Statues
One gate opening puzzle later, Gabriel found himself pulling Barry the cart to the boarded wall. With a gentle push, he sent the cart flying through the poorly built construction. There was now a way through. Meanwhile, poor Barry went sailing off a ledge and into the abyss. Walking past the ledge, Gabriel murmured, "Thanks Barry!" Heading up a different path, he was back in the Game Station.
"The final game..." Gabriel muttered under his breath as he walked up to the control panel. He pulled the lever, thus allowing the door to Statues to slowly creak open. However, it groaned to a stop. Well, the place was abandoned. Things weren't running like they were supposed to. Getting down from the control panel, Gabriel pulled the door open using both Grabpack hands. He then headed down.
The lights overhead kept flickering on and off. Gabriel watched them, wondering how in the world a place abandoned for ten years could possibly still have power. As if on cue, the lights turned off as well as the blue hand scanner over the door. Great. Turning on his phone's flashlight, Gabriel allowed the light to guide him to a power outlet. Another brief look around showed him where he needed to send power. Using his green Grabpack hand, he did just that. The lights flickered back on as the power returned. With the blue hand scanner now back up and running, Gabriel gained access to Statues.
This room was bigger than the ones for the previous two games. Before Gabriel laid a wall made to look like stone but felt like foam. He couldn't see over the wall but he could guess that it was a maze. He looked around, curious to see what else was there. But the only other thing he could see was the viewing room that all of the game rooms had. That's when Mommy appeared.
"You know, it was always so sad to see the children go," Mommy remarked, a wistful tone in her voice. Gabriel gazed up at her as the giant spider-like toy continued, "The children were the best part of being in this forsaken place. They were innocent and pure, blissfully unaware of what was going on behind the scenes. They even looked at a monster such as myself and found joy because I was real. They called me Mommy cuz I was the closest thing they ever had to one."
"That's a sweet sentiment," Gabriel chimed in. He truly meant it. Her green eyes studying the human being silently, Mommy spoke again, "Yes, it is. But here is the thing, player. They'd come and go for games and then they wouldn't come back. At least, not the way they were supposed to." Gabriel frowned. What was Mommy talking about? He didn't ask though as the toy went on, "And then came the fateful day where they left Mommy to die alone. Mommy didn't deserve that!" Biting his lip, Gabriel piped up, "I'm sorry to hear that-"
"But you, you worked here," Mommy interrupted. A chill ran up Gabriel's spine when she said that. How did she know that? He held back a retort as the toy concluded her speech, "So if anyone deserves to die alone, it's you." She said each word with anger laced between each one. A moment later, her cheery attitude returned as she called out, "Oh PJ! Dinner's ready!"
There was heavy breathing behind Gabriel. Turning around, his heart plummeted when he saw a humongous creature with many legs. Covered in light blue and purple fur, it looked like a caterpillar. However, it had the smooshed up face of a pug. Tongue hanging out of his mouth, PJ stared at Gabriel with big round eyes. Giggling from the viewing room, "Don't move when the lights are off or PJ Pug-a-pillar will get you! Have fun player! May your death be swift!"
The lights went out.
Gabriel didn't hesitate. He bolted towards the entrance of the maze and ran as fast as he could. Ain't no way he was sticking around. All of the sudden, the lights turned on. Surprised, Gabriel tripped and fell. Laying on the ground, he was about to force himself up to his feet when he heard the soft pitter patter of paws. PJ was coming. Just then, the lights turned off. Scrambling to his feet, Gabriel ran. When the lights were turned on again, he was relieved to see that he was out of the maze. But now he could see what was on the other side. A whole obstacle course, starting with some good old monkey bars hanging from the ceiling.
Lights out.
Thinking quickly, Gabriel fired the blue Grabpack hand at the first rung. Pulling himself up, he used the green hand to grab the next one. He swung to the next rung and the one after that, stopping only when the lights came back on. Making it across, he found three tunnels. Deciding to go through the one in the middle, the man crawled on his hands and knees, again stopping whenever the lights were turned on. Making it through the tunnel, he found himself face to face with the next obstacle. A giant pool of foam blocks with bigger plastic ones. Assuming he just needed to jump on them to get across, Gabriel waited for the lights to go out before he did just that. He was doing pretty well when he arrived at a dead end. The pool had caved in, there was no way out.
Panic swept over Gabriel. Looking back over his shoulder, he could see PJ steadily crawling his way through the foam blocks. It wouldn't be long until the giant toy caught up to him. The middle aged man didn't want to think what would happen to him if he got caught. Shaking his head, Gabriel frantically looked around. He was desperate for a way to escape. Then he found it. The very viewing room that Mommy had been in. There was no sign of her now. This was his chance. Firing the blue hand towards the window, Gabriel pulled himself up and crashed through the glass.
He was free.
