Chapter 1 - The Factory

The leaves on the side of the road scuttled along as a gentle breeze picked them up. Then they were completely blown away as a pickup truck and attached trailer zoomed by. The truck was cruising down an old road that hadn't seen traffic for a long time. The pavement was cracked and littered with potholes. Every time the vehicle drove over one, Gabriel felt himself being jostled around. Gritting his teeth, the middle aged man muttered, "I better be close. I can't see anything with these blasted trees." As if on cue, the trees peeled back to reveal a factory.

This was Playtime Co.

Pulling his truck up slowly to the front doors, Gabriel parked the vehicle and turned off the engine. An uneasy silence followed. There were no birds, the factory was too far away from civilization and, again, there was absolutely no traffic to speak of. Gabriel sat in his truck, trying to compose himself. He couldn't even look at the building beyond his windshield. Too many bad and weird memories.

"Come on man," Gabriel whispered to himself, "You can do this. It's been ten years. Just get in, find out why you were even called here in the first place and then get the heck out of here." Taking a deep breath and letting it out slowly, he opened the door and stepped out. Grabbing his knapsack, he slung the strap over his shoulder before shutting the door to his truck and locking it. Maybe no one has been around for a while but he wasn't about to lose his only way out of here to some thief.

"Okay, here we go," Gabriel murmured under his breath, walking up to the front doors. Leaning against it, he pushed with all his might. The door creaked open loudly, as if to signal whoever or whatever was inside the abandoned factory that he was here. Gabriel shook his head at that. No time to think about such ridiculous things, the factory was abandoned and has been for ten years. The only living things here might be a wild animal or two.

Taking out his phone, Gabriel flipped on the flashlight mode on the device. The room lit up, revealing the same old lobby he knew from back in the old days. It was now falling apart, years of abandonment and neglect had led to water damage and plant growth. Paint was peeling off the walls and pieces of the ceiling were breaking off, chipping the floor below. If this was the current state of the lobby, Gabriel was not looking forward to seeing the rest of the factory. But he had to find whoever sent him the letter, he had to find the flower.

Approaching the door that would allow him to enter the rest of the factory, Gabriel discovered one of Playtime's many Grabpacks conveniently leaning against the wall. He remembered using these things back when he used to work here. He had been tempted to smuggle one home, they were that much fun. This pack was missing the right red hand but the blue hand was still attached. Slinging it over his back, he gave it a test run, shooting the hand out and smacking the wall.

Yep, still functional.

Satisfied with his new toy, Gabriel turned his attention to the door. There was a keypad beside it with colored buttons. Up on a train track near the ceiling was a little train, somehow still miraculously running after ten long years. It just so happened to have colors that matched the buttons on the keypad. His gaze flicking back and forth between the toy train and the keypad, Gabriel muttered, "There's no way it's that easy." Regardless of how he felt, he tried the code. Success. Watching the door open, he grumbled, "It's that easy." Now able to access the other half of the lobby, Gabriel was about to enter when he stopped in his tracks.

Standing in the middle of the room in a small display area was none other than Playtime Co's very own Huggy Wuggy.
