Reader's Pov

Just the thoughts of Jefferson being in the same place as you made your blood boil. You hated the thought that he might come after you, then again that had been all you ever wanted him to do; but ever since he left your anger had gotten the better of you. Thank goodness you still had your mom to help you through it all. Oh crap your mom, in your heated anger you had completely forgotten the fact that the cell phone was now destroyed. She would be furious and completely freaked out that you had yet to contact her. Letting out a deep sigh you looked over at the pirate walking next to you his features highlighted by the moonlight and letting your emotions fade into the background chuckle as you say, "You know you might look better in the moonlight than actual light."

He lets out a scoff as he says, "Well princess I think your idea of attractive might be flawed." 

"Really and to whom are you referring?" 

 "How about that strangely dressed man that made you run away from the safety of numbers?" 

You let out a sigh as you say, "Do we really need to talk about him? I'd much rather talk about anything else on this planet other than him." 

He pauses as he says, "He hurt you rather badly I take it, since you refuse to talk about him and practically ran out of that camp." 

You let out a sigh as you stop and looking up into the night sky say, "Fine! Since you keep talking about him I'll tell you what happened." You turn toward him and after taking a deep breath say, "Well I guess it all started when I first met him."

You had just started working at Granny's when you met him. It was late one night and you were closing up Granny's diner when you accidentally bumped into him knocking him and yourself over. "Oh I'm so sorry I didn't see you there." You say as you push yourself up off of him. 

It's my fault I should have watched where I was-" Your (E/C) eyes meet his deep sad blue orbs making him stop in mid sentence. You quickly blink your eyes as you stand up and apologize again. 

"I'm sorry I don't think we've met, I'm Jefferson." He says as he holds his hand out to you. You swallow a gulp of air as you say, "_______, nice to meet you."

From that point on you two were always together he was sweet and yet mysterious. You liked that about him. Then one day everything started to change. He went crazy and tried to kill Mary Margaret and Emma. 

"What were you thinking?" You asked him when it was just the two of you sitting alone in his house while you cleaned the caked blood from his face. 

"You wouldn't understand." 

You let out a sigh as you gently wipe away the blood. "I would if you'd tell me." 

"It's not that simple. I can't tell you." 

Your hand pauses as you feel your heart tense. "You can't or you won't?" 

He reaches forward and gently lifts your face to his as he says, "Even if I were able to tell you, you wouldn't believe me." 

You reach up and gently grab his hand as you say, "Tell me and I promise I'll listen." He lets out a sigh as he tells you about his history, when he finishes you lean forward and gently placing a kiss on his cheek and say, "I believe you." 

His face turns to shock as he says, "You do?" You nod and he tilts his head as he says, "Why?" 

"Cause I know you wouldn't lie to me."

That was the first night the two of you shared together which alarmed Regina. "Sweetie you can't date Jefferson," Regina says making your heart break. 

"What? Why can't I?" 

She sighs as she says, "Because there are circumstances to which you aren't aware and I don't want you to get hurt." 

You feel your anger start to rise as you say, "He made one mistake how am I going to get hurt?" 

"Does he know you're my daughter? I only ask because you never brought him home to meet me." 

"What does that have to do with anything?" 

"Please just answer the question." Regina says as her eyes turn sad. 

"No, I didn't tell him." 

Her faces turn to full worry as she says, "______, there's something you need to know. I've done some things I'm not proud of out of anger and he may resent you because of me." You sit there and listening to all that had transpired between her and Jefferson before you met her and before she left The Enchanted Kingdom.

"You mean to tell me that he lied about being able to bring Daniel back just so you would enact the curse?" 

She lets out a sigh as she says, "Sad to say but yes." 

"Then you left him in Wonderland where he lost his daughter and was tormented by your mother." 

"It wasn't the best idea I had but I was just so angry at the time, the anger and rage was all I had but now," She stands up from her desk and walking over to you wraps her arms around you. "I have you and Henry and that's all I could ever ask for." 

Hugging her back you say, "I love you too, but I trust him and I think it will be okay." 

Regina lets out a worried sigh as she says, "I hope your right."

A few weeks later after Emma and Mary Margaret had returned from the Enchanted Kingdom you arrived at his house to find him packing a bag and your eyes widen, "Where are you going?" 

He pauses as he turns toward you his blue eyes full of rage. "Why didn't you tell me Regina was your mother?!" 

"I didn't think it mattered." You say taken aback by his sudden anger. 

"It matters more than you know. She's the reason I went insane!" 

Your eyes narrow as you say, "I do not condone what my mother has done to you but you hurt her in a way no one can make up for. You, Wale, and Gold all lied to her about bringing Daniel back." 

His eyes narrow as he says, "And I guess I deserved losing my daughter to random strangers because of that." 

Your face softens as you says, "My mother has done a lot of bad but she had her reasons."

"You talk as if you were there, you weren't why do you keep making excuses for her?!"

 "Because she is my mother and I know her better than anyone else in this world or any of the others, It's just like she says Evil isn't born, it's made; and because of what you three did she lost everything." 

"How has she lost anything? She has you Henry and this whole town, what did she lose? She is just a selfish evil person." Your anger gets the better of you as you feel your fist ball up and collide with the side of his face, causing him to stare off into the distance in shock. 

"How dare you! I promise you one thing I will fix that stupid hat of yours and once I do I never want to see you again. I hope you and Grace are happy wherever you end up." You say as you turn and stomp away from him only pausing for a moment to say, "And one more thing, I hope one day you can forgive Regina, because I already know she has forgiven you."

The next day you showed up at Rumplestiltskin's shop with Jefferson's Hat in hand. "What can I do for you Ms. Mills?" 

You let out a sigh as you set the hat down on the counter and say, "I need you to fix this and I'm willing to do anything." 

He examines the hat and says, "I can't help you." 

You sigh as you say, "I mean it, I will give you whatever is needed to fix it. I just want him gone." 

He slightly narrows his eyes as he says, "Who do you want gone and why are you willing to do whatever it takes?" 

You take a deep breath as you say, "Jefferson, I want to fix this hat so he can leave with Grace. I can't stand living in the same place as him and I know that he wants to leave. So just tell me what I need to do and I'll do it."

He reaches down and picking up the hat starts to examine it. "I can fix it but I'm not sure you want to give up what's required." 

"Just name it and you can have it, no questions asked." 

He lets out a sigh as he says, "The hat can be repaired but only if you give up the most important part of yourself," 

Your heart clenches as you say, "And that is?" 

"Your heart." 

Gently reaching up to touch your chest as you say, "Won't I die without it?" 

He looks down at the hat as he says, "The spell only requires half your heart but if any harm comes to the hat then the other half of heart residing in your chest will turn to ash and you will die. That is why I don't recommend you do this no matter the reason."

You glance down at the hat and taking a deep breath say, "I can't see him anymore so do it." 

He nods slightly as he instantly reaches over and plunges his hand into your chest and removing your heart. You stare down at its radiant red light and stare wide eyed as he breaks it in half and places one half back in your chest as he places the other in a bowl. You watch him for the next hour as he mixes the ingredients together and then says an incantation as he sprinkles the ingredients over the hat making it become engulfed in red smoke. Moments later there in front of you sat the hat in its entire glorious splendor. The other half of your heart inside your chest clenches as you take a deep breath and say, "Thank you Mr. Gold, what can I do for you in return?" 

He hands you the hat as he says, "I think you have given enough, it's no charge." 

You half smile as you say "Thank you, and if you ever need anything please don't hesitate to let me know."

You quickly left his shop and turn toward the direction that would lead you to Jefferson's when you bump into Regina. Your eyes widen as you quickly hide the case carrying the hat behind your back. "What are you doing coming out of Gold's?" 

You clear your throat as you say, "He needed me to take something to somebody for him." 

She raises an eyebrow as she says, "You seem suspicious but I trust you so be careful and hurry home afterwards I'm just on my way to get Henry from school." 

You force a smile as you say, "Okay love you!" You quickly run past her and continue on your way to Jefferson's. 

When you arrive you see him loading his car and you take a deep breath as you walk over and tossing the case at him say, "Here now you can leave." Before he is able to reply you turn and walk away your mind and heart not prepared to deal with the events that could occur. A few days later you went past his house and upon seeing it empty realize that he had in fact left.

Hook stares at you as he silently goes over your words in his head. You look ahead of you to see a stream a few feet ahead and sigh. "So this bloke just let you leave and didn't try to stop you."

 "Exactly, I wanted him to come after me even though I told him not too but he never did. He didn't even bother to ask how I fixed his hat or even thank me for it."

 "Sounds like you dodged a bullet there princess." 

You let out a giggle as you say, "Maybe your right, I just wish I could go back and not have used half my heart to fix that shitty hat." 

He sighs as he says, "If only we could always go back in time and fix our mistakes and save the ones we love." 

"I agree my dear Captain, and then our lives would probably be totally different I would be home with my mom and you would be with your Unicorn." 

He nods as he says, "Well shall we continue our journey Princess?"

 You reach over and punching him in his arm say, "Stop calling me that, or I will call you Captain Codfish." 

His smile fades as he says, "Then we are in agreement."

You smile as the two of you start heading back toward your destination feeling a little more attached to your guardian.
