Finding Family (Ruby/Red x fem!reader)

Red sighed and sat down against a tree. Her travelling companion Mulan joined her on the ground and asked Red what was bothering her. "We've been searching for months. Don't you think if there were people like me around that we would have found them already?" Mulan shrugged. "I don't know. Perhaps we've been looking in the wrong place." Mulan joined Red in her search for a pack and she tried to keep Red from getting discouraged.

"The last pack I had contact with found me. They basically lived underground," Red answered. "Why did you not stay with that pack? " Mulan asked, not having heard this part of Red's story before. Red went on to explain how she found her mother and learned to accept the wolf as part of her. She also told Mulan about how the pack tried to kill Snow and how Red's mother ending up dying instead. Since that day, Red had not met one single wolf. "Why is finding a pack so important?"

Before Red could open her mouth, they heard a voice reply. "Because a pack is a wolf's brothers and sisters." A stranger stepped out from behind another tree. Mulan jumped to her feet ready to fight. The strange held up their hands in surrender. "There's no need for that. I'm Y/N and I've been looking for you." Red stood and cocked an eyebrow. "We caught your scent a few miles back and started following you. I'm surprised you didn't pick up our scents." Several more strange people emerged from the woods. "You're all like me?"

Y/N nodded. "We are and we pose no threat to you or to your friend." The group muttered their agreement. "Are you the pack leader?" Red asked, giving Mulan a glance. The pack chuckled and Y/N answered, "You could say that. I only lead the wolves when we hunt. The wolves do not control us, not even during Wolfstime. They follow me because they choose to and they would like for you to join us."

Red bit her lip, wondering if she should take them up on their offer. Y/N observed Red and chuckled. "You know what I think? I think you don't need a pack, young lady. I believe you already have one." Red tilted her head in confusion and Y/N continued, "What do you think a pack is, dear?" Red thought for a moment before she answered, "A pack is a group of people that look out for one another because they are alike and they understand one another. Sometimes they even love one another."

The pack leader chuckled. "You mean, like a family?" At Red's nod, Y/N continued, "My dear girl, you've already found your pack. You have a family. You have people who love and care for you and even though they may not be like you and may not even be blood, they are your family." Red began to cry as she thought about what Y/N was saying. She thought about Granny and Snow. Y/N gave the young woman a small, encouraging smile.

Y/N placed a comforting hand on Red's shoulder and said, "Don't fret. You'll see them again. Families have a way of finding each other." The pack started thinning out as they returned to the woods. "Do you really think so? How did you know about my family?" Y/N pondered a moment then said, " First, I heard you talking about someone called 'Snow.' Second, if you were truly looking for a pack then you would not have hesitated to join us." She smiled and turned to follow her pack. "Good luck finding your family, dear." With that, she disappeared in the mist of the woods.

"You know what, Mulan? She's right. I don't need a pack. I have a family and I'm not going to stop until I find them again." Mulan smirked at the brunette then said, "I will help you in any way I can. Then perhaps I can find my own family." The two women set off with another mission in mind.
