Monster under the bed - AU
"Daddy?" Young Castiel prayed for his father in the night. He clutched his cream coloured blanket in his little fists, his breath coming in shivering takes.
God didn't show up. He was probably busy with Lucifer, which was being a really bad archangel. Castiel frowned and took another breath.
"Mommy!" The juvenile angel yelled this time, and immediately got an answer. His Mother, Celeste, appeared in front of him in a beam of light.
She wasn't wearing glowy white robes like his daddy always did when he was in Heaven, but she was wearing dark blue ones, with little white shimmers on them. There were little silver ships floating on them, ejecting bright blue and red lines, which created miniature blooming orange flowers where they hit another silver vessel.
Castiel wondered if that was what Earth looked like. He was already two centuries old! Young little Castiel couldn't wait till he was old enough to finally ascend from Heaven onto Earth and see it all for himself.
Celeste tucked her bright red hair behind her ear, her halo illuminating the strands and giving it a coppery glow. Castiel thought mommy looked rather pretty that way.
He didn't dare move when he remembered why he had called for his mother. "Mother, I'm scared." He whispered softly. He sat still like a statue on his soft feather bed.
She smiled and strode towards him, and sat on the side of his bed. She stroked the strands of dark hair out of his face.
"Oh honey, there is nothing to be scared of. What is it?" She asked softly, still stroking his hair.
"There is something under my bed."
His mother bopped his nose. "Let's see about that," She whispered mischievously with a smile. She twisted around on Castiels bed, flinging her legs on it. She laid with her entire body on the blankets, her head hanging over the edge.
She patted next to her. "Let's look together."
Castiel hesitated a bit before he laid down next to her. "I don't want to look mommy." He admitted shyly.
He was sure there was something or someone under the mattress of his bed. He could swear that he had heard something moving.
Celeste frowned. "Hm." She said, "There we have a problem." She propped her hands under her chin. "Then I don't want to either." She said.
"Mother?" Castiel asked, confused. "But.." He stuttered. "But you're supposed to take the scary away!" He exclaimed, wide eyed.
"But I need my big boy angel to protect me too. Mommies need their brave little soldiers." She said. She looked around the circular room, "and I wouldn't dare to, otherwise." She whispered softly.
Castiel got an urge of courage. He had to protect mommy. He balled his fists and put his hand on his mothers pale arm. "Come on mommy, then we will look together, alright?"
His mother smiled and after another glance they both let their heads drop over the side of the bed. They hung upside down, and now had a clear view under the bed.
There was nothing, but a stray sock and a box of spare human parts daddy didn't need anymore, like horns and wings. He had decided afterwards that the humans would have enough difficulty with different skin colours, so that had stopped him from giving them big, sometimes transparent and multicoloured wings. Daddy said that the humans would have to stay on the ground for a while longer. Maybe later, he said.
His Mother turned her head, her red hair cascading down her head, onto the floor in a waterfall of waves.
"I can't seem to find anything. You?" She asked.
Castiel shook his head, his unruly strands of hair whipping around. There was nothing under the bed.
"Well then," Celeste concluded. She kissed him on the forehead. "Goodnight sweetie."
And she was gone.
Castiel was alone again. Content, he slipped back under the blankets, and put his head on his pillow.
Not more than a minute after his mother had gone, he heard something again. A soft shuffling, and the sound of something being knocked over. It came from his closet, opposite of his bed. Castiel perched up, and pulled his blanket up to his chin.
The white closet doors peeped softly when the slowly opened, revealing a dark hole. Castiel wanted to pray for his mother again, but he was too scared to think.
A hand held the closet door, and then a small boy stepped out of it. Castiel frowned. Monsters didn't look like that.
The other young boy had dirty blonde hair, and was wearing a strange garment which he recognised from his books. The humans called it 'flannel'.
This boy was a human. From Earth!
Castiel lowered his blanket. "Hello?" He called softly.
The human looked up, and even from his bed Castiel could see the green of his eyes. He looked scared. As scared as he just had been.
"Do you know where my father is? Where am I? Who are you?" The boy rambled. He looked around hopelessly, and eventually in the eyes of the angel on the bed.
Castiel felt a soft pang in his chest, maybe pity, and now he understood Fathers unconditional love for the humans. Too bad he wasn't around much.
"I am Castiel. I'm an angel of my dad-" Castiel corrected himself. "-an angel of the lord." He recalled that that was the proper way to introduce yourself to a human.
The boy frowned. "You're an angel?" He asked "What, I'm in a nut-jobs house now?"
"You're in Heaven." Castiel answered. He didn't know what a so-called nut-job house was.
"Am I.." The boy stuttered. "Am I dead?" He whispered hoarsely.
Castiel shrugged. "I don't know. I can ask my dad if he-"
The boy held up a hand. "No, no! It's okay." He walked towards the bed. "I'm Dean."
"Hello, Dean." Castiel said. "So.. What do you remember? Of Earth?" He had to ask. Humans didn't really come to his room often.
"Not much.." Dean said. "I remember my father telling me to run. But after that only fire. Fire.. and.. nothing. I woke up in that closet."
He sat down on the footboard of the bed, his hands in his lap. "You said your name was.. Castiel? He said, tasting the name and letting it roll over his lips. It seemed a bit difficult for him to pronounce.
"Can I call you Cas instead?" He asked.
Castiel nodded and smiled. "Yes. You can."
They sat on the bed for the rest of the night, and after, Castiel was never afraid of monsters again.
