Chapter 9 - NY to LA

After spending a day and a half with Calum's family, they got on a plane to go back to Australia. About an hour later, Calum and I got on an airplane to go to California.

Calum kept telling me to quiz him on the people in my family's names. He didn't want to say something to Kaven and call him Kit or vice-versa. I was happy he wanted to make a good impression on my family. I knew he would. I just knew they would like him.

Calum was really excited to meet my family, almost too excited. He kept talking about it, kept telling me how much time we had left on the plane, how long he'd be able to stay with them. The only thing we didn't talk about was where we'd live.

He lived in Australia, and his family did too. I lived in California, and my family did too. I wasn't sure of where we'd live. I didn't want to bring it up, but I knew we'd have to address it sometime.

"Calum, babe.." I grabbed his right hand in my left because he was sitting to the left of me.

"Yeah, Kay?" He wondered, looking at me with a small smile.

"You know.. uh, you live in Australia, and I live in California. Where are we going go live?" I asked, not sure of how to put it. I didn't know what he was going to say.

"Wherever you want. We could even live in England if you want. We don't have to live where our families are, unless you want to live near your family or mine."

"I don't know. I guess I want to live in either California or Sydney. I'm not sure which, though."

"You know it doesn't matter to me, Kaylee Marie," he rhymed my name with what he said. I giggled.

"I don't know where I want to live. Where do you want to live? We could live in LA or Sydney. I don't really care which."

"I've always wanted to live in LA..."

"I do really like LA. We could always go on vacation to Sydney and to visit your family there."

"Yeah, definitely. Bu there's one thing: we would have to be away from each other for a little while because I don't want to keep doing this you with my family me with your family thing. I think we need to pick one place and stick with it, like we're going to live in LA. That's fine with you, right?"

"It is, yeah. We won't be moving in with each other right away, though. I was thinking.. when we get married, we can get married in Sydney. I'd like that."

"That would be nice. We can get married in my country and move to yours," he chuckled.

"We could do that," I nodded, agreeing.

"I'd like to do that," he smiled.

I placed my head on his shoulder and gripped his hand tighter. After just a few minutes, I ended up falling asleep like that on him.

------

Calum woke me up to tell me that we had two hours left on the flight. I had just rolled my eyes and went back to sleep. He woke me up again at one hour, so I stayed up the rest of the time then. We played games like saying a word for each letter of the alphabet. Those kinds of simple games were so fun to play with him.

"It's almost time for us to be in LA!" He exclaimed excitedly. I loved how cute he was when he got excited.

"Yes, Calum. We'll be there soon. Then you'll get to meet my family. I know you'll love them, and they'll love you."

The flight landed minutes later. Calum squealed quietly in excitement. I nudged him a little, trying to tell him to calm down. He laughed, making me laugh. We grabbed everything we had taken on the plane and got off.

We picked up our luggage from the luggage pickup and began to leave the airport.

"This is it, Calum. You'll be able to meet my family," I smiled at him as I found my car in the parking lot, my car that had been sitting there during the whole time I was gone.

"This is your car?" He wondered, and I nodded to answer his question. He continued, "it's nice."

"Thank you," I turned the car on and began to back out of the parking space.

"This is different than in Australia. I guess I'll have to get used to this.. You guys drive on the opposite side of the road.." He sighed.

"Yeah, we do. I'm sorry, but I can't change it," I looked over to him to see him pouting.

"You're so cute when you pout," I said in a baby voice, touching his cheek. He laughed and pushed my hand away.

"I'm excited to meet your family," he stated for the fiftieth time.

"I know that, Calum. You've only said it about a hundred times," I rolled my eyes and slightly giggled.

"I know, I'm sorry. I just really want to meet the family of my soulmate," he grabbed my hand in his. I smiled at him.
