Chapter 7 - To New York
*Calum's POV*
Kaylee was able to leave the hospital the next morning. They wanted to keep her for the night in case she found something wrong with herself that they didn't. She didn't find anything else wrong, and I was glad. The only thing that happened in the crash was that she broke her arm, which would heal soon.
I invited Kaylee to come to my hotel room with her things so we could leave together. I knew she wouldn't be able to drive for at least six weeks, maybe even longer.
We returned her rental car, and I paid the bill for it to be fixed because I felt like the crash was all because of me.
We had gotten all of Kaylee's things from the car and put them into mine. We drove back to the hotel to get the rest of my things. I let her lie down for a little while during the time I was packing my things up.
In the late morning, we were off from New Jersey to go to New York to be with my parents for the rest of the vacation which would only be another day and a half before they went back to Australia.
"So, Kaylee," I looked at her while driving back to New York, "my parents and sister are in New York right now, and they will be for the rest of today and for tomorrow. Would you mind spending the night with us tonight and the day with us tomorrow?"
"No, not at all," she smiled, "as long as you promise to come with me to Los Angeles to meet my family afterwards."
"I think I can make that happen," I nodded, smiling, "my family won't mind. They'll be happy to meet you."
*Kaylee's POV*
"And my family will be happy to meet you too," I grinned, "they just won't be excited about the broken arm. At least it's a cool origin story," I laughed, which made Calum laugh with me.
"Yeah. 'I waved at her while she was driving which caused a crash and her broken arm, but now we're together'-" he stopped quickly and returned to driving. It seemed a little awkward for a few seconds.
"We're not officially together yet, are we?" I wondered.
"No, we're not, I guess. Kaylee, will you be my girlfriend?" He smiled at me and took his eyes off of the road long enough for me to answer him.
"Of course," I nodded and placed my hand on his hand that was sitting in the middle of us. He flipped his palm up and grabbed my hand, holding it and entwining our fingers together. It felt so nice.
"So your parents' names are.. J-J-" I tried to remember his mom's name. He had told me once, but that's it. I don't think he had told me his dad's name.
"Joy and David," he replied, "and my older sister's name is Mali. She literally bumped into her soulmate at the airport when our vacation started, and it has been such a crazy ride since we landed in New York. Wow," he must've been thinking about what I was, how we finally found each other after many mishaps.
"I love that we've finally found each other, now," I chuckled.
"Yeah.. Me too. And I'm glad you're not too hurt because of the way we met," he smiled sweetly at me. I nodded.
"I only have a broken arm, but I don't mind. This is actually the first bone I've ever broken," I shrugged.
"Really? Oh my god," Calum seemed to be amazed, "are you serious?"
"Yeah. I've never broken a bone. So thank you for giving me my first broken bone," I joked.
He sighed and pouted, "now I feel even worse."
"Don't, Cal. It isn't your fault. I was kidding. I was the one who slammed on the brakes, causing the car behind me to hit me quickly. I'm glad he wasn't hurt badly."
"Kaylee Marie, I was the one who caused it, and I feel terrible. Don't blame yourself for this. I would've done the same thing. I startled you, and I really didn't mean to. I'm sorry," he apologized for the gazillionth time.
"Calum Thomas," I called him by his middle name, like he had done to me. He looked at me as if to tell me to stop. I continued talking, "I'm fine, and I'm not mad at you for what you did, so stop blaming yourself. I don't want you to be blaming yourself."
"Okay. I'll try not to blame myself, even though I know I'm still the one who caused it.."
"Let's just get off of the subject, okay?"
"Sure," he agreed, "and remind me one more time.. What are your parents' names? I'm not sure if you told me them."
"My mom's name is Georgia, and my dad's name is Kyle," I informed him, "my younger brother's name is..." I waited for him to answer.
"Kit! No, Kaven," he smiled, knowing he got it right, "and your older brother's name is Kit."
"Yeah, good job," I squeezed his hand tighter.
During the rest of the ride, it was a lot quieter. we just sat there in each other's presence, not really saying anything. We both began to get excited when we got closer. I would get to meet his family and he'd be able to tell his family that we finally found each other.
