Chapter 18 - "May I help you?"
"What? You're not my soulmate. I'm not your soulmate," I told James. "That's not possible."
"But Kaylee," he stopped talking and got close to me. He grabbed ahold of my necklace and grabbed ahold of his.
"What are you doing, James?" I questioned him, and he looked at me sternly as if to tell me to be quiet.
"We are soulmates," he told me as our necklaces combined together. I gaped at him in disbelief. I blinked rapidly, trying to change what I was seeing. Nothing happened. Our necklaces were still connected.
"This can't be happening. This can't be true. This isn't real. No, James, no! I can't have you as my soulmate. I already have a soulmate," I admitted to him.
James raised his eyebrows suspiciously. He looked at me as if he didn't believe what I was telling him.
"I'm telling you the truth!" I exclaimed. I pulled out my phone and showed him pictures of Calum with me. He seemed shocked, and neither of us knew what to say.
"How could this happen?" He questioned as he looked at my pictures. Blake stormed out of the room.
"Excuse me, what are you two doing? No phones until break!" She scolded me.
"I'm so sorry, Miss Blake, but James and I were trying to figure something out," I began to explain to her.
"And what would you be trying to figure out?" She questioned as she walked towards us from the room. Suddenly, she tripped on her own feet and fell. In the midst of her fall, she tried to grab onto something to stop her from falling. She'd grabbed onto James and took him down with her. Blake ended up with James on top of her; both of them were on the floor.
"James-" I looked down at them to see that their necklaces had connected.
"What is going on here?" James was surprised. He couldn't have been any more surprised than I was, though. How come his necklace collided with mine and hers? My necklace collided with James and Calum's. I was so confused.
James jumped up from the floor and removed himself from on top of Blake. He reached out his hand and helped her up. He apologized, "I'm so sorry about that. I really didn't mean to fall on top of you."
"No, no. It was my fault. I tripped and pulled you down with me," she put her hand on his shoulder, "It's my fault."
"But anyways," I brought the topic back to what we were talking about before the fall. "What we were trying to figure out is why James's and my necklaces connected, because I've already met my soulmate. But now, your necklace and James's necklace connected. I have no idea what this means.."
"Maybe there was a mixup when the necklaces were made. Maybe there were accidentally four of the same made. Ours and your soulmate's, Kaylee. That's never happened before, though. Huh," Blake scratched her head. "I'm just going to continue to think that the soulmate you met first, Kaylee, is your soulmate. Then James and I are soulmates, I guess."
James smiled at Blake. I knew they would make a good couple, so I agreed with Blake that Calum was my soulmate and that she was soulmates with James.
"That must be. I can't see how it would be any different. I'm getting a job now because my soulmate and I are making plans together for our future," I explained to Blake and James. They both nodded.
"That's a great thing you're doing, then, Kaylee. And you're doing just fine here. I don't think I'll have much of a problem hiring you," Blake assured me.
"I've only rang up one customer.." I giggled, not sure of why Blake would tell me she'd hire me if I only helped one person.
"Well, you're still doing great. You did an amazing job with the customer you did help. Don't let their rudeness get to you. Sometimes, people can be annoying and rude, but you have to stay nice for the other customers. I think you'll do just fine, though." Blake gave me a huge grin before walking back into the back room.
"So it's been pretty eventful since you got here, even though you've only been here for less than an hour," James chuckled.
"Yeah, tell me about it," I sighed, looking around the store.
"How about you go out into the store and ask if people need help? Maybe if they're finding everything okay or if they need to find something.." James told me as he pointed out into the store where I saw quite a few people shopping.
"But I don't know my way around the store.. And I don't know what I'd tell them if they ask me for help finding something," I shrugged.
"Here, take this. If they ask you where something is, find what category it would be in on the map, then lead them there. Simple," James shrugged, handing me a map of the store looking from the top down on the store. At first it was hard to read, but I got the hang of it.
"Okay," I agreed and walked out into the store to help customers.
"Are you finding everything okay today?" I asked one woman who was roaming around in the front of the store.
"Um, no, actually. I was wanting to get this one video game for my son, but I have no idea where to look.." She constantly swiveled her head around to see if she could find where to look.
"Follow me," I walked toward the video game aisle and showed the woman where to go.
"Thank you so much, Miss," she thanked me as I walked away. I made my way down the video game aisle and turned into the next aisle which still contained video games. I did not expect to see who I saw there.
"May I help you- Kaven?" I stood there, unsure of why he was there an not in school. I looked past Kaven and saw a tall boy who I recognized right away. "Kit!?"
