Chapter 11 - Sick

The next morning when I woke up, I had a weird feeling in my stomach. I wobbled over to my bathroom, half-asleep, and crouched down to the toilet, throwing up most of what was in my stomach.

The noise of my vomiting woke Calum up really fast, and he made his way over to me to see what was wrong. He pulled my hair back so it wouldn't fall down into the toilet. I thanked him in between waves of puke.

"Are you feeling okay?" He wondered, "food poisoning? You ate too much?"

"I had some weird stuff on the plane yesterday. I wasn't sure what was, and I wasn't too sure if it was okay to eat. That's probably what's going on here.."

"Awe, babe.."

"I'm fine," I assured him, seconds before throwing my head over the top of the toilet again.

"Are you sure you're fine? Or do you think there's more?" Calum wondered.

"No, I'm done now. I think I just threw up most of my insides," I groaned, standing up slowly. I flushed the toilet and got out my toothbrush to brush my teeth so I could get the taste out of my mouth.

"You're better now?" Calum grabbed ahold of my hand after I finished brushing my teeth. I nodded slowly and we walked out of my room.

When we got downstairs, Calum told me I should eat a little bit of something to get food back in my system. I agreed.

My parents were downstairs and in the kitchen, where Calum and I walked into. They were worried about me because they'd heard me throwing up while upstairs.

"Kaylee, are you alright? I heard you upstairs, and it didn't sound like you were feeling very well," my mom was concerned.

"I'm fine," I assured her, grabbing an apple to eat. Calum had got some cereal out and was sitting at the counter next to my dad eating it.

"Why were you throwing up?" She wondered.

"I ate some thugs in the plane that I don't think I should have eaten," I shrugged.

"Well, are you sure you're not pregnant?" She asked jokingly, but I watched Calum's reaction, and he choked on his cereal. He coughed and sputtered a little, but finally got the cereal down. My eyes just got wide at her comment.

"I'm sure I'm not pregnant, mom. Calum and I met less than a week ago! Plus, even if something did happen between us soon after we met, I probably wouldn't be showing symptoms yet."

"That's true, yeah. Sorry for asking. I saw Calum's reaction—that was priceless!"

"It's fine, mom. And I saw it too. It was hilarious," I giggled.

"Yeah, well, it's a little awkward for me with you guys suggesting things like that about your own daughter and me.." Calum defended himself.

"Sorry, Calum.." My mom apologized, but she chuckled a little bit.

"Don't worry about it," now Calum laughed, continuing to eat his cereal. Dad hadn't said a word throughout the whole conversation, but I knew what he was thinking: why is this family so crazy? I laughed to myself. I wasn't sure I had an answer to that one.

While I was eating my apple and Calum was eating his cereal, Kit came downstairs. He hugged me good morning and asked, "how'd my baby sis sleep with her new boo right beside her?"

I laughed hard at his choice of words. Calum heard him too and chuckled. I answered, "I slept fine. How about you?"

"I slept nicely. I heard something from your room this morning, and it didn't sound good.. What was going on?"

"I threw up. I had something bad to eat on the plane," I explained to him and to Kaven when he came down the stairs less than a minute later.

"But you're okay now?" Kaven asked, and Kit seemed to be right next to him, nodding as if to agree with asking the question.

"I'm fine. Thank you guys, though, for the concern," I smiled sweetly and grabbed ahold of Calum's hand.

"Kaven, you have school today. Get your breakfast and get going!" Mom exclaimed, "the bus will be here any minute!"

"I'm going, mom," Kaven assured her, going as fast as he could to get his breakfast, say goodbye to the four of us in the family and Calum, and get out to the end of the lane to where the bus stopped.

"Forget something?" I called to him, referring to his gym bag sitting on one of the stairs.

"Oh no," he groaned, running back into the house to grab his bag. He began to walk back out of the house and I could see that the bus was just going past, and I knew he'd never be able to run down our long lane and get to the bus in time.

"Kaven," dad scolded, "we don't have time to take you to school! Your mom and I both need to leave for work. You need to get Kaylee or Kit to take you."

"I have plans with my friends today, and I need to meet them in about twenty minutes, so I should get going now. Kaylee, you can take him, right?"

"Yeah, I'm fine with that.. as long as Calum is okay with it," I looked to Calum for confirmation. He nodded, and I smiled.

"Kav, we'll take you to school," I told him, "we'll leave in fifteen minutes, okay? That way we'll get you to the school right on time."

"Okay. Thank you," Kaven smiled, sitting at the counter and watching the morning news that was on the television placed in the kitchen.
