Chapter 1 - Airport
*Calum's POV*
I had a feeling that my soulmate lived in America. As I flew from Australia to America, my necklace got warmer and warmer, more than it ever had been. My family and I were flying to New York, and after we passed over California, I realized that my necklace was getting cooler as the flight went on. I found that weird.
On the flight were so many couples with matching necklaces, ones that fit into each other's. I sighed, thinking of when I'd meet my soulmate. There were little kids sitting by the couples who were playing with their necklaces, probably not realizing what they could do.
Over my teenage years, I've wondered about my soulmate. Where is she? What does she plan to work as? Where does she want to live? How old is she? When will I meet her? There were so many questions that I wanted answers to. I also wondered when if find out the answers to the questions.
"Calum," Mali looked at me as she was sitting beside me. I turned my head away from the window to look at her.
"Yeah, Mali?" I asked what she wanted.
"You've been holding your necklace. What's wrong?" She wondered.
"Nothing, really. It just got really warm when we were flying over California, and it's gotten colder ever since we passed California. I just think that is sort of weird," I shrugged.
"Calum," she said plainly, "you don't understand what that means?" She looked at me with disbelief.
"No, I don't know what that means. Does she live near California?" I questioned.
"Probably, if she doesn't live in California," Mali pointed out.
"Wow," my mouth hung open for a few seconds before I began to slowly close it.
Later, we landed in New York, and I saw Mali grab her necklace off of her chest, then pull her hand away and fling her hand around like she had just burnt her hand.
"What's wrong, Mali?" I wondered worriedly.
"My necklace just got really hot," she struggled to get something between her skin and her necklace, "I feel like it will burn me if I don't have something between my skin and the necklace. It really hurt."
"Your soulmate must be really close by," I told her, smiling.
"He probably is," she nodded, then smiled and repeated herself, as if in disbelief, "he probably is."
"Mali, that's great!" I exclaimed, "I have no idea how the necklaces can tell you where your soulmate is."
"It's getting even warmer," she told me as we walked off on the plane and into the airport.
"He may be in this airport," I nudged her.
"He may be," she nodded.
My parents, Mali, and I got our luggage from the pickup, then began to walk towards the exit of the airport.
Mali, standing beside me, was walking and once, she told me her necklace was much more warm than it had ever been. Suddenly, a man bumped into Mali.
"Oh, I'm so sor-" he began, then saw that their necklaces had come together when they bumped into each other, literally.
"Hello," Mali smiled at the man who was just a little taller than her. He looked to be around her age.
"Beautiful Australian accent," he complimented.
"You have a great New Yorker accent," she told him as she grabbed her necklace apart from his. My parents were watching the whole thing completely, just as I was.
"Call me sometime, anytime," the man pulled out a small piece of paper and a pen and wrote down his phone number. Mali nodded and took the paper from his hands.
"Goodbye," she waved as he ran off. She turned to me and her eyes bulged.
"Did that just happen the way I think it happened?" She wondered.
"He's your soulmate," I whispered to her, not privately, but just in awe of what I had seen.
"That was amazing," she smiled, "but he was in such of a hurry. I wonder what his job is."
"I have no idea. My necklace is cooler than it was earlier, but not as cold as it is in Australia," I told Mali. She nodded.
"I bet your soulmate lives in California, or somewhere around there. She has to," she told me, "and I just met my soulmate."
"That's crazy. It's fate," I smiled at her, and she agreed.
We walked out of the airport and left for our hotel after getting a rental car. I couldn't wait to explore New York, but I also wanted to try to find my soulmate. I would try to do that some other time. I wanted to have fun now, while I was in New York. I wanted to take my soulmate off of my mind, but I couldn't. I needed to know where she was, and who she was.
