Emily
We finished the meal and walked back to her place in silence, allowing millions of thoughts to run through my head.

Lilly couldn't leave. She just couldn't. With everything happening, she was my one happy place. I loved her like she was a sister. Lilly was my family.

Now that she was being torn from me, what was I gonna do next next? Where was I gonna go? Should I tell Lilly? Where was I gonna live? Would I be homeless? I soon realized that I was panicking and took a deep breath.

With both of us being tired physically and emotionally, we decided to stop at a park.

There was no kids there, so we both took a swing and swung, just enjoying each other's presence. A few minutes passed before I decided to say something.

"Why?", I asked her, "Why LA?"

She took a deep breath and sighed. "Some big company contacted Lisa, my manager, and offered me a contract, so she took it. Their base is in Los Angeles, so the only way I can keep the contract is to move there."

"Are your parents gonna move with you?"

I figured that if at least her parents were gonna stay, I could move in with them. Her parents loved having me over, and would even sometimes refer to me as their 'second-daughter', because I came over so much.

She shrugged her shoulders. "They're moving to California too, but just not to Los Angeles. My mom decided to open a new office in San Fransisco, so both of my parents can stay close."

"Oh. Well, I'm proud of you" I tried to smile, but failed.

Great, my one living option was gone now, and there was no way I would be able to afford my own place.

She was leaving in three days, so that gave me no time whatsoever to think of another option.

Lilly's face turned stern. "Em, there's something wrong. Don't try to say that you're fine, because I know you're not. And I know that you're not sad just because I'm moving. Tell me Em. Please."

I let out a breath of air. I might as well tell her, she would find out eventually.

"My parents kicked me out. I came to you, hoping that I could stay with you until I found something permanent."

Her eyebrow raised. "Why'd they kick you out? Did you do something?"

I couldn't help but laugh. "No, Lills, I didn't do drugs or anything. They said they couldn't afford the rent with James and I living there, so either me or him. And I was the unlucky one, I guess.", I lied.

She frowned and jumped off the swing, looking like she was ready to kill someone. She clenched her fingers, making fists.

"What the hell? How could they kick out they're own child?!?"

I got off the swing too, so I could stop her before she punched someone.

"Lilly, it's okay. They just couldn't afford it with both of us there, so they had to make a choice. I'll find a place to live eventually. "

She looked at me with sympathy, something I never liked. "Oh, Em, what are you gonna do?"

I shrugged and looked down. I began thinking of some options. I could finish high school quickly, there was only a few months left anyway, and with both of us being home-schooled over the computer, it made it easier.

A job would also be necessary, working somewhere small until I got my diploma, then get a real one.

I guess I was stuck in my head for a while, because when I looked up, we were walking towards the gates of the park, leaving.

We walked the rest of the way in silence, both of us thinking what was going to happen with us.

Soon, we reached her house. It was easy to know which house was hers. Unlike the others on the block, it was painted a sand color instead of white, and had millions of garden ornaments scattered around.

An oak tree stood in the backyard, its branches and leaves poking out over the top of the house.

We had a lot of memories with the tree. When we were both 11, we both carved our initials into it. At age 12, we would sneak out in the middle of night and climb the big oak.

We would bring blankets, pillows, and snacks, and just talk gossip about her neighbors. I was gonna miss her and all the memories we shared.

She opened the front door and instantly got jumped on by her dog Moshi. She laughed and pushed him off, running up the stairs to her room, with me following behind.

When we reached the room, I jumped on her huge beanbag across her bed, and she sat on her bed along with Moshi, petting him. I was about to drift off to sleep, but I was waken up by Lilly calling my name.

  "Emily? Emilyyyy? Emily!"

I opened my left eye. "What?", I groaned.

"You can live with me, I can't believe I didn't think of this earlier! I can get a two person apartment, we can be roommates!"

I opened my other eye, and tried to talk, but I couldn't.

"Are y-you su-sure? I don't wanna be a bother or anything. It might take me a while to get a job, and there's no way you can afford 2 people."

She rolled her eyes. "Don't ever fucking say that you'll be a bother to me, because you're not. I literally could not even live without my best friend. And, with this contract I'll be making 5 times the amount I do now, so I could easily afford you, before you get a job."

I laughed in relief. I tried not to, but I couldn't help but cry. Crying was something that I was used to, but this time it was different.

It was no longer tears of despair and sadness, but of happiness.
