Emily
"What the hell is this?!?", she yelled, holding up my bag.

"I was gonna stay at L-Lilly's tonight."

She glared at me for a good minute, until she threw my bag down at my feet.

"You know what? I've had it with you! All you fucking do in this house is take up space! Why couldn't you be more like your brother, and find someone that actually loves you? Oh, I know why! Because you're just a piece of shit! No ones gonna ever gonna tolerate your ugly ass besides that slut Lilly you call your friend. Now get the hell out of my house and don't you dare think of coming back, you bitch!!!"

My legs start to give out underneath me, but I quickly grabbed my bag from my feet, and ran into my room.

I felt tears streaming down my cheeks as I rushed to empty out the few items I packed into my mini bag, and throw them on my bed.

Looking through the closet, I found the biggest bag I can find; a red backpack, and start packing again.

After a few unsuccessful tries, I sit on my backpack to try to close it.

Somehow, I managed to fit all the clothes I owned - which wasn't a lot, some hygiene items like deodorant and other things, and a few items that were personal to me.

I slung the bag over my shoulder and looked at my room for one last time.

The plain white walls that my room once had were now a dull white. My closet, now bare, but with a few unimportant items still had things stuffed on the top shelfs.

Nothing ever was hung up or nothing in the whole room ever signified that it was mine.

Looking around the room I knew one thing was for sure - I was not going to miss this place.

Peeking outside the door, I made sure no one was in the hallway. After making sure the coast was clear, I walked out of my room and shut the door quietly. I rushed down the stairs, making sure not to make any noise.

While walking down the stairs, I hear a couple voices coming from James' room. I was in a rush to get out of the house, but decided that I would see what was happening.

I could hear my mother talking. She was in mid sentence.

  "....leaving now. For good"

James scoffed. "So, God does exist, after all."

There was a bubbly laugh. Mariana was the only person I knew that had that laugh.

My mother smiled. "Anyway, I'll leave you two lovebirds alone".

  She gently kissed his head.

My brother rolled his eyes. "Mom, really? I'm 19, for Christ's sake."

My mother, Kelly, laughed. "I don't care, you'll always still be my son."

And that's when I decided I couldn't take it anymore. The dried up tears that were on my cheek quickly got replaced by new ones.

Ten more steps later, and I reached the front door.

My hand grazed the knob, and I turned it. I walked out into the warm breeze, and begin walking to Lilly's house.

It's a good three miles from my house to hers, but that's okay. I could use the exercise.

This is it. No more being woken up by my brother at four o'clock in the morning, being yelled at when he gets angry.

No more being groped by my father when I walk around the house.

No more of my mother screaming at me when a bottle of alcohol finishes.

  None of it.

But that doesn't change who I am. They're right, aren't they? How can someone be hated so much, when there was nothing they did to be hated on?

It's because I'm all those things they say. They do it all because they know it's true. And I know so, too.
