OTES-Monkey King's Wife

Authoress' Note: Welcome back dear readers to another one of these sniplets.

Today's theme is going to be romance!

Just so you know, I could write a lemon with the rating the way it is, or even give some lime, but for the sake of this sniplet, I'm keeping things around the PG-13 rating.

You're probably wondering right now: you just wrote a brutal murder and now, you're writing romance? Seriously, what the hell Chibi? What drives you to write?

Well, considering that the main story lacks in romance, I'm kind of shamelessly filling that void with my experience—regardless of it being a fleeting thing that lasted so briefly.

With that said, I am going to write this loosely between ChiChi and Kakarot.

Anyone who's against this pairing because it's too freaking lovey dovey can get out. I don't need the hate, and I'll be honest: I like this pairing.

*Mutters how she still needs to bring her other stories over.*

Monkey King's Wife

One-Shot

Kakarot was once again brooding far away from the base—the stress and intense pressure of everything seemed to chip away at the stone he had assumed was unbreakable. Sadly, it was crumbling apart into smaller and smaller fragments, and soon, he feared that he would not have any resolve left. Not only was he losing the battle against an external threat, but he was also facing the battle he was waging within to a demon that wanted him to hand over his soul.

Wrapped up in his own internal warfare, Kakarot did not hear the approach of a soldier until the sound of a gun cocking brought him out of his reverie. He eyed the armed gun man who seemed to have a death wish—one he would grant quickly for being so stupid to come alone.

Right as Kakarot touched the staff that was affixed to his back in its sheath, a smaller, softer hand wrapped around his wrist. Glancing back in alarm, he saw ChiChi standing there, her eyes filled with sadness. The soldier still had his gun trained on them, a silent threat lingering in the air that he was capable of hurting them if need be.

ChiChi's other hand reached for the sword at her side, the pointed blade hovering over her husband's shoulder as she sent a cold glare at the soldier. It was almost though the woman was silently sending him a warning: mess with him, and you mess with me. The soldier, startled by this cold calculating message fled, not in the least bit interested in finding out what the consequences may turn out to be.

"Why didn't you just let me kill him? He'll just come back," Kakarot muttered like a child who did not get his way. He would have sooner killed him and be spared any future drama.

"The same reason I wonder why you hate humans so much," ChiChi scolded her husband for such morbid thoughts. She sheathed the sword back on her side as she sat down next to him. "How come you're so far away from the camp?"

"Don't feel like being there around the others," Kakarot honestly replied to his wife. What he did not tell her was that he did not want to be around her either because he had already yelled at ChiChi earlier and was feeling guilty about it.

"Is that what's really troubling you?" ChiChi prodded at her husband. She pulled him to lay down until his head was lying on her lap. Such a state left him vulnerable; however, the moment he felt her fingers card through his hair, he felt the tension in his body start to melt away from the gesture. It was... different considering that she would usually try her hardest to make him feel lovey dovey in ways that were alien to him. This... this was more natural.

"Yeah... I feel like all I feel these days is anger," Goku admitted tiredly to the only human he trusted with his life. "I... I don't know if I can live like this... I'm tired of feeling like this..."

"I know Goku, I know..." ChiChi's heart ached at how worn out her husband seemed to be due to the grief he tried to carry on his own. She had seen the horrors that the man had endured thanks to Chille and his men—horrors that any normal man would have never recovered from if they were ever let free.

And yet, her husband was nearly broken from all of the torture he had endured psychologically—such tortures that the soldiers had committed to try and break the Saiyan's fighting spirit. Right now, she wanted him to forget about everything that he had barely survived. To find some semblance of peace no matter how brief it seemed compared to the war the world waged around them.

Kakarot softly purred as the fingers gently touched his face almost in a thoughtful manner. "It's been a long time since you've done this with me."

"I... I tend to forget sometimes that you like this," ChiChi admitted. Even though this was such a simple gesture, it actually was something she did for him from time to time back when things were not so complicated.

Kakarot twined his tail around her left wrist, almost though he were trying to reassure that everything, that this moment that they had was real and not a simplistic dream that could quickly be taken away from them. He feared that if this were a sweet, lovely dream and woke up to a living nightmare, he would truly break. ChiChi smiled warmly down at her wayward husband with a reassuring smile, almost though silently telling him that everything in this moment was as real as the forest surrounding them.

"I... I wish... I wish that we didn't have to be like this..." Kakarot mumbled, feeling lethargic due to what ChiChi was doing to him. He was tired, and for an odd reason, he felt safe. So safe that he could let down his guard completely and trust that his wife would shield him from everything that threatened his life.

"Sometimes, I wish we could go back to those days before all of this madness started... back to when it was just you, me, and Gohan..." ChiChi wistfully reminisced. She was trying her hardest to be strong for her husband, and yet, she was so worn out from all of the threats that have been trying to keep her from the man that she was deeply devoted to with all of her heart.

Closing her eyes, ChiChi thought back to when they were children, when the world was so bright and cheery. Could they ever get back to those simplistic days where everything would be alright again? Or would this be their new reality?

"ChiChi?" Kakarot's voice brought her back to the painful present faster than a gunshot. Her hand paused as she glanced down and saw the soft dark eyes looking up at her. She felt his hand brush against her cheek. It was then that she realized that he was wiping away the tears that ran down her face.

"S-sorry..." ChiChi jumped when she realized that she allowed her mask to faulter. Here, she was trying her hardest to give Kakarot reassurance that she did not take her own emotions into consideration.

"How long have you been like this?" Kakarot asked with a child-like curiosity.

"I... I don't remember..." Chi-chi confessed, feeling a sense of guilt for permitting herself from allowing him to see her at her weakest point. "Years I guess... I just try to shut out what I'm feeling..."

Kakarot frowned. Youzi, the accursed demon that seemed to worm his way through his psyche, had kept him focused on the main goal of killing humans. His wife, the one who seemed emotionally fragile, was a human. Even though the fiend had inhabited his mind and tried desperately to gain absolute control of his being, he fought against the monster to prevent him from taking everything away from him that he truly cherished.

"Don't..." Kakarot told her, which made ChiChi inhale sharply when he said that one word. He expanded his explanation. "Don't try to hide how you feel around me anymore. I... I don't like seeing you hiding it... it's... it's not right..."

"Goku..." ChiChi started to realize that he was giving her permission to cry when she was reluctant to let her guard down around everyone.

"Promise me..." Kakarot pleaded, his normally hard eyes seemed so soft—soft enough to make what resolve she had crumble.

"I... I promise not to hide how I feel from you..." ChiChi murmured as she gently leaned down and kissed his forehead. He felt his skin warm from the gesture, and she was not even trying to seduce him.

"I... I wish we can stay like this forever..." Kakarot stared up at her, his heart racing due to the simplistic gesture.

"That would be nice, but sadly, we only have these moments to appreciate each other," ChiChi told the Saiyan before she grimaced. Kakarot tensed when she realized that the soldier from before returned, this time with backup. The mood seemed to darken quickly, almost though the sun was plunged behind the dark clouds that threatened to rain on their beautiful day.

"Let me..." Kakarot started to rise—his anger mounting; however, ChiChi gently pushed him down again as he quizzically looked at her. Did she not know the danger they were in?

"Stay here. I'll be right back," ChiChi reassured as smiled warmly at him. She lowered his head down to the ground gently as he returned the sentiment.

The smile quickly faded from ChiChi's face as she rose to her feet, withdrawing the swords. She glared coldly at the men who foolishly thought they take advantage of them in their moment. Oh, she was not going to accept this, and she was truly going to give them hell for their bad timing.

If anything, the soldiers who decided to impede on this moment had every right to fear the virago as she put herself between them and her husband. ChiChi glanced back to make sure that her husband stayed put. The last thing she wanted was for the demon's blood lust to be sated.

Kakarot saw his wife charge at them, a war-like cry escaping her lips. As he watched her battle against them as their guns fired off in futile, he felt a swell of pride for the woman that fought for his sake.

Being the solitary witness of ChiChi's battle reminded Kakarot how he had fallen for her so hard. Despite those who would try to convince her otherwise, she truly belonged to him and him alone, and anyone who thought otherwise would sooner face his wrath.

Even if the odds were truly against them, he knew that ChiChi had his back. She truly was a force to be reckoned with.

As the soldiers were felled by the blade of the warrior woman, they knew that they had better think twice before daring to cross the Monkey King's wife.

I had fun writing this little sniplet. I think that this helped get back in touch of the romance that I haven't done in quite a while. I was almost tempted to have them tag team, but since Kakarot has a monkey on his back, I had to cut the scene out. Perhaps next time I'll write something akin to a dance/action routine.

For now, I hope everyone enjoyed this quick sniplet.
