OTES-A Father's Unruly Son

Authoress' Note: Yeah, this is a totally random idea that came to me after watching a video on YouTube about Baby Yoda driving his adopted and professional killing father crazy and not wanting to go to sleep. I know this is totally out of left field, not having much experience with taking care of babies or toddlers, so this might be bizarre.

The closest thing I have to kids are my pups, especially little Iz when she acts like a drama queen at times. Recently, I had gotten a new bed that pushed the height of it higher, and she balked when she couldn't get onto it the same way she had been.

Thankfully, I managed to get her used to the new bed I happened to purchase before Christmas and she's been sleeping in it most nights. I would have to coax her to go to bed though whenever she fusses at me. After I call her to her bed, she seems to calm down and rest until she needs something or someone else wakes up.

Getting back to this random story idea, I had considered another option before settling on doing this as an OTES sniplet. This follows an unlikely pair: Raditz and Baby Trunks as the former is learning on how to be a good single father to his half-breed son.

So without further delay, here is a father and son story that might be cute or relatable.

Warnings for this sniplet include in no particular order: a singing Raditz, a conveniently placed teleporting button, and cookies. Why cookies? Why not?

A Father's Unruly Son

Baby Trunks cooed in delight as he saw his father enter the room. It seemed that Raditz had noticed the makeshift crib he had made for his son empty. The boy sat nearby on a stack of books that he had brought from the military camp that Kakarot was imprisoned.

For weeks now, Raditz had been reading them on and off to try and help the youngest brother Kakarot recover from the trauma he sustained during his three year torment. Unfortunately, ever since Cell had threatened their lives, it threw a wrench into the eldest brother's plans to try and formulate a plan with Tarble.

The soft tail brushing against Raditz's arm brought his attention back to Baby Trunks, who seemed to be demanding his father's attention.

"Trunks, it is late," Raditz muttered as his tail coiled around his son's waist and moved him to the crib. "Go to sleep. I need another hour before I go to sleep as well."

Without another thought, Raditz picks up a book, preparing to resume reading a passage, but the soft ruffling sound behind him indicated that Baby Trunks was not going to stay put. The boy crawls up to his father's side and starts fiddling with the switch to the light, dimming the room before turning it off.

"No Trunks, that isn't a toy," Raditz scolded as he looked at the child who touched it again anyway to brighten the room slightly. "If you touch it again, it will explode." Trunks paused and looked at his father before touching the lamp to switch it back on. "You didn't hesitate. You just called my bluff and went for it. A risky gamble for a half-breed runt like yourself."

Trunks just seemed to look at Raditz, cooing as his little tail swayed behind him. It seemed that he was expecting something to eat.

"We had dinner about twenty minutes ago," Raditz sighed, noticing the baby was still giving him a pouting expression. "If we get a snack, would that sate you?" There was no response, but Raditz noticed Trunks' tail swaying in eagerness. Tail language never lies to Saiyans. That is an unspoken rule that he had lived by most of his life. "Alright."

The father figure picked up the boy and carried him off to the kitchen where there was a cookie jar sitting up high. Raditz pulled it down from the shelf as Baby Trunks pulls the lid off and quickly escaped from under his father's arm. Without hesitation, he climbs into the oversized pot filled with the sugary, chocolatey goodness waiting inside. In moments, the sounds of eating emit from the container.

Turles happened to walk into the kitchen just then and saw a tiny tail poking out as it moves with the child within the cookie jar and a horrified expression crossed the adult man's face. This was completely new.

"Is Trunks in there?" Turles questioned, wondering what had gotten into his elder brother and why he was allowing this behavior to go unchecked.

"He is, what of it? He knows what he likes," Raditz shrugged it off as a tiny burp is heard from within the container. "You used to do this when you were little as well."

"I... I can't believe this," Turles muttered. Their own mother had baked the cookies earlier that day, and Raditz was letting his baby boy eat them without a care in the world. While more could be made, it was the idea of letting a baby get into the jar and eat them all unchecked that was disturbing.

Baby Trunks' head pokes out of the container as chocolate was smeared on his face. His little hands, which were also covered in the gooey mess, grasped the rim of the cookie jar as he giggled in delight. Now, it seemed that he was content as his tail swayed eagerly behind him.

"Seems you need a bath," Raditz picked up the baby and carried him off to the bathroom. He would make sure to take care of his son, even though he was a mischievous little thing.

Turles looked at the cookie jar with a frown. He had wanted to help himself to a few, but now, that was impossible, especially with there being nothing but crumbs left in there. Sighing, he goes to put the container in the sink to wash, knowing full well that Gine would not make anymore this late in the evening.

______

Baby Trunks cooed happily as he found himself surrounded by bubbles. Raditz started to wash the boy's tail with a small bristled brush as Trunks seemed to relax in his grasp. The father recalled when Gine would do this with him and Turles whenever they had gotten dirty. Once, Turles had gotten so filthy due to a rare rainfall within the region and gotten muddy as a result. Raditz told his mother about his younger brother being dirty, and the stern expression was enough to make Turles regret the day running through the puddles.

"You're getting bigger," Raditz noted as he saw that the baby was sitting up better after he let the boy's tail go. A splash of water courtesy of the freed limb hits him in the face moments later as he grabbed a towel and plucks Trunks out of the water. "Alright, you had your snack and bath, now it's time to go to bed."

A fussing sound comes from Trunks. Apparently, he was not ready for sleep yet.

"Seriously? Alright, I'll take you out for a walk then, but after that, you're going to your crib, little man." Raditz says as he grabbed his scarf and gently tucked the boy into it. Trunks did not complain about this as he seemed happy to be going outside with his father. Going for walks with the man was one of his favorite pastimes, one which was never always the same.

______

Baby Trunks looks up at the trees as Raditz walked. He was starting to get annoyed that his son was still not asleep. Usually, his son would have done so by now, but he was curious as his hand found its way to a button that was pinned to his scarf.

"Don't even think about it," Raditz warned his son. "Don't you even push the button to the teleporting device..."

Does a child that age ever listen to their parents? No, they have to learn from experience as he pressed the button.

The moment that the button was pressed, they appear in a random place far from base. A sigh of frustration escaped his throat as he noticed that they were in an abandoned village. It appeared it was the middle of the day here, which indicated that it was in a different time zone altogether.

The teleporting button was one that Raditz had secretly pulled off of one of Chille's men after he was killed. While he had no intention of ever using it, he did not want such a device to fall into the wrong hands. Of course, that did not mean that it would not fall into the small hands of a half-Saiyan child who seemed to use it for his own devices.

"Why do you do whatever you want?" Raditz questioned before he shook his head.

Was this really what it was like to be a rebellious thing? The father had recalled the number of times that he and Turles had tied Paragus' tail to his chair while he was drinking in the bars as a child. Once, the duo had even gotten his cape involved by putting it near a raging fire, and Gine had to grab both of them by their tails and drag them home after apologizing for the damages.

"Mmm... I guess you get it from me, though that doesn't mean you should do it without a thought," Raditz decided after thinking about it for a few minutes. "I just hope you know that if there are any soldiers around, they would be dead in a heartbeat, 'cause none of them would dare target me for their experiments unless they have a death wish."

Baby Trunks' tail brushed against his arm. He was letting his father know that he respected him mostly, but it was only respect. The boy was still far too young to know the implications of his actions, and he was still a troublemaker. Raditz made a mental note to see if his boy had his mother's brains when he got older. He knew that the boy was strong, but if he was half-Saiyan, he wanted him to be cunning as well. Even more cunning than his older cousin, Karot.

"If I sing you a song, will you go to sleep?" Raditz questioned as he glanced back at the boy. He nods slightly, his tail swishing. It was no secret that his son loved listening to music. Kauli would have easily helped him with this, but it all depended on her mood. Plus, she was back at the ship, so he had no other choice but to sing himself.

Clearing his throat, Raditz knew that his voice held no candle compared to the blue eyed female's, but he was still determined to sing to soothe the boy to sleep.

"Go to sleep, go to sleep, it is getting dark outside. Go to sleep, go to sleep, just close your soft blue eyes. It's time to rest your head for the night, there is no battle that we need to fight," Raditz sings in his native language, which still sounded weird to Baby Trunks, "Save your strength and your might, for the next day's morning light. Go to sleep, go to sleep, go to sleep little chimp. Go to sleep, go to sleep, your target is a wimp."

Baby Trunks listened to his father singing in the Saiyan language as his tail swayed behind him. He was not tired in the slightest though as his tiny hand reached for the button to teleport them again as Raditz continued to walk, not aware of this.

"You are a strong little guy and don't need to purge this planet of life, you are too young to go out alone and cause a lot of strife..." Raditz saw the hand grasp the button just then. "Hey! Don't touch that!"

They are teleported to another random spot on Earth where they appear on a beach this time. The sun was setting, casting its rays along the beach as he walked into the lightly covered jungles.

"Go to sleep, go to sleep, my little warrior boy, go to sleep, go to sleep, for tomorrow will have more joy..." Raditz continued his song, his tail coiling around Trunks' to get him to settle down more inside of the scarf that he was in. The last thing he wanted was the boy to slip free and cause more trouble when he was supposed to be out like a light. "Go to sleep... go to sleep... go to sleep..."

As he wrapped up his song, he felt Baby Trunks' tail starting to loosen up as he glanced back and noticed that the baby had finally fallen asleep. Sighing in relief, Raditz starts walking further into the jungle, noting the ruins before sitting down outside of one and closing his eyes. He began to doze off, tired himself.

Raditz's scouter at his waist suddenly starts beeping in alarm as he quickly reached for it to shut it off. If it was Vegeta or anyone else wanting to talk to him, they were going to have to wait since his son had just fallen asleep. He glanced back to make sure he was still out of it and sighed in relief.

However, the distraction was long enough for someone to shoot at Raditz as the crack of the gun echoed, waking Baby Trunks as he cried out in a panic. The squealing cries from his son forced a menacing growl to escape the father's throat.

"Nothing personal, but I thought I'd kill you," a soldier laughed.

"Hey! Do you mind? I just got my son to sleep," Raditz complained as he rose to his feet, clearly displeased as Baby Trunks began to cry, clearly bothered by this interruption.

"That little half-breed is going to come back with us," the soldier laughed. "We could easily make him go against your people and destroy you."

"You threaten to take my son?" Raditz's eyes narrowed, a clear warning that he would protect his son from whatever he considered a problem.

"Yeah, and maybe we could make that child into a better human than a beast like you. I hope it's nothing personal," the soldier shoots at Raditz who is forced to shield Baby Trunks from the barrage of bullets as they continue to pelt him, falling harmlessly off of the angry father's skin.

Baby Trunks continued to whimper, not liking that his sleep was interrupted by these loud booming noises and the sound of crushed bullets falling to the ground. The gun was soon drawing blanks as it clanked, completely empty. A look of horror crossed the soldier's face as it dawned on him that he had nothing left. Instead of killing the father, the pitiful human had only made Raditz angry.

"It's nothing personal, but your dumbass did wake up Seleriak," Raditz growled as he fired a blast at the soldier that had the nerve to bother a precious moment with his son. The soldier grunted as he fell to the ground and died from his injuries. Raditz was forced to destroy his body immediately afterwards with another energy blast, not wanting to leave any trace of this demented man laying around for anyone else to discover. Straightening his scarf that held Baby Trunks, Raditz grumbled at how he would have to sing again to coax the baby back to sleep.

Deciding to get the hell out of the jungle, Raditz rose from the ground and flew back towards the ship, hoping that Baby Trunks would fall asleep along the way home.

______

"Is he finally sleeping?" Gine asked Turles as mother and son stood at the doorway to Raditz's room.

"Seems so mom," Turles answered over at the female Saiyan before looking back into the room. Baby Trunks was fast asleep on Raditz's chest as the father snoozed away, completely exhausted.

"Honestly, he really put himself out there to wear out his own son and forgot the most important way to do it," Gine sighed as she leaves a brick on the table nearby. It was something that Raditz had forgotten that she had used as a punishment whenever the eldest misbehaved.

Not that Turles forgotten about it since he had it done to his tail more than Raditz before his disappearance.

Whether or not Raditz would use this method of Saiyan parenting was to be seen though.

Fin?

I was tempted to use Gohan and Piccolo for this crazy idea, but seeing Raditz being an actual father to Baby Trunks, he probably had his good days and bad raising the baby.

Why around the Cell Games? I could have easily placed this sniplet after, but not knowing where this story is going as of yet, it also gives me a reason to use yet another disposable soldier with a vendetta against the Saiyans who threw Earth into this chaos.

Not only that, but recently, I have re-read the whole chapter where Raditz was planning to kill Baby Trunks. Mostly, this was due to not wanting anything to do with the child he unknowingly sired due to his one-night stand with Bulma, and Kakarot bringing his nephew to where the others were so he wouldn't be killed.

I could draw a parallel of this very scene from Breaking Dawn (Twilight series, which I won't spoil unless you know what I'm talking about): while what happened to Baby Trunks was not entirely the same when Raditz hesitated, he did eventually drop the whole idea of killing his son and accepted him as his own flesh and blood.

While I have yet to watch The Mandalorian myself, I will admit that the randomly cut video on YouTube did end up sparking this whole idea.

Hopefully, this made some of ya smile a bit.
