Orphans

An old small orphanage stood near the boundary of the city. For generations from when Tokyo was established, it took care of children until they could find a new family. For generations it had been the place where young children abandoned by neglectful or unable parents were brought to be taken care of until a family is willing to take them in. Though it was known a common place for abandoned children, happy laughter was still heard throughout. Except for this one empty hall where there by the end stood a tall woman with glasses and a thirteen year old child, only faint echoes of happiness were heard.

"Wait, I'm getting... adopted?" Masanori, a fifteen year old boy, spoke in a confused manner as he scratched his hat which he always wore backwards. The caretaker nodded as she showed a gleeful smile, expressing how happy she is that the little brunette boy can finally live with a family. She knows how hard it is to get adopted when in teenage years. "Yeah! They'll be here to pick you up tomorrow, so get ready and pack your things."

"But... wait... but what about Haruwashi and Joon? Aren't they getting adopted with me?", the boy's crimson eyes were filled with hope, only to find that the caretaker's smile had gone as she looked down. "So... we're going to be seperated?"

"... I'm sorry, Masanori, I tried to-"

"No, it's ok. I'll... I just need time to think...," the boy spoke as he quickly walked down the corridor back to his room in the orphanage looking down, letting the brown strands of his hair cover his gloomy face and faced his hat the right way to aid with covering the tears forming in his eyes. He didn't really know how to react to this. He should be happy, shouldn't he? He'll finally be part of a real family, one that really chose to have him as part of their family. Instead, Masanori feels, and shows only sadness. "I can't believe this..."

He stopped in front of a brown door with the names Brick, Boomer, and Butch carved in really small by the doorknob. He hesitated to open it because he knew that he'd have to tell them about his adoption once he came in. With a deep breath, he turned the knob and opened the door. Two pairs of eyes quickly befell upon him.

"Hey, Brick dude! Welcome back!" a blonde kid his age greeted as he opened the door of their room. It was Haruwashi. He had dirty blonde hair which was parted in the middle, and round blue eyes which were always glistening with youth, happiness, and mischief.

"Yeah," Masanori answered without looking at Haruwashi.

"Hey, what did we talk about using our codenames unnecessarily?", Joon spoke as he sat on the top bunk. He was a pale Korean boy just the same age as they are who has raven hair tied back in a small ponytail. His hair never really seems to be tamed as he always wore it losely, letting strands of his hair fall freely to his face. Yet no matter how much hair gets in his face, his slanted black eyes never fail to show.

"Ugh, avoid doing it," Haruwashi rolled his eyes at his brother. He then looked back at Masanori and felt his lingering unhappiness. "Yo, what's with the long face? What'd Ms. Nakamura want to talk to you about?"

"It's nothing," Masanori answered as he plopped face down on his bed.

"Well, clearly it's not nothing. What's wrong?" Joon asked as he peeked down from the top bunk.

"Ughhhh... I'm... getting adopted..." he mumbled quickly, his words blurred because of his pillow.

"What?" Haruwashi asked.

"I said I'm getting adopted!" Masanori repeated.

"Yeah, we heard you. So lemme guess, we're not going with you, is that right?" Joon asked as he desperately tried to hide his sadness.

"Yeah... She said they're going to pick me up tomorrow..." Masanori frowned.

"Well, good for you! Hope you have a nice life with your new parents, and... and that you have a nice house... and you'll have real siblings and... and you'll forget about us... and... and... have fun!" Haruwashi spoke and sobbed between words, his faced wrinkled with a frown as tears fell from his eyes. He threw a pillow at Masanori to relieve his feelings.

Everything went silent except for Haruwashi's constant sobbing.

"Well, that sucks. Hope you have fun abandoning us," Joon frowned as he curled up in his bed and faced the wall. His brows connected as annoyance and anger quickly overcame his mind.

"I will surely strangle him before he gets to leave, then I'll strangle the parents who dared to adopt him... those inconsiderate little...," Joon groaned and thought as he visualized how gruesome he wants it to be.

"No, I won't have fun," Masanori spoke firmly. Joon slightly turned his head and Haruwashi sniffed his runny nose. "I'm not abandoning you guys, not now, not ever. We're gonna get the hell out of this place."

"But... how will we survive? We get all the stuff we need right here..." Haruwashi quietly asked. A slight snort of contained laughter and a deep breath was suddenly heard from Joon

"On food, water, and brotherly love, duh," Joon snickered as he jumped down from his bed. "So, what's the plan?"

"Pack your bags, boys, we're getting outta here!," Masanori said with a determined expression. The three "brothers" fist bumped and nodded at each other.

"You can call me Brick," Masanori said as he pointed at himself.

"Yo, I'm Boomer," Haruwashi spoke.

"And I'm Butch," Joon said and smirked.

"And we're the... uhh... the...," Masanori stuggled as he tried to come up with something. Joon face palmed as Haruwashi excitedly waited for the name they can calle their group.

"Ugh, whatever! It'll come to us naturally," Masanori groaned. Haruwashi pouted. "From now on, we'll only use our codenames. We'll abandon our former life right here, right now!"

"Yeah!" Haruwashi and Joon, or rather, Boomer and Butch cheered.

"Now let's get outta here!" Brick declared. He grabbed his bag, lifted it, and got ready to throw it through the window.

"Woah woah woah! What the heck do you think you're doing?" Butch asked as he quickly grabbed backpack.

"Yeah, what's the plan?" Boomer asked.

"We'll go wherever the night takes us!" Brick said.

"No, seriously, what's the plan?" Butch asked with an annoyed expression.

"But it's the middle of the day...," Boomer mumbled quietly.

"Do we seriously need a plan? I mean we can easily escape, there's a building rooftop right there, we can easily jump that," Brick opened and pointed outside their window.

"Alright! Great plan! I'll go first! Weeeee!" Boomer said as he quickly jumped out the window and landed on the roof of the building. He looked around him and sniffed.

"So we'll just do it? Just like that?" Butch asked with one eybrow raised.

"Yeah, I guess so," Brick shrugged his shoulders.

"Ahhhh, the putrid odor of the city fumes. We're free!... Oh?" Boomer's eyes landed on a security camera which quickly turned to his direction. The color quickly drained from his face as he knew that trouble would come next.

All of a sudden, an alarm went off. The loud noise of a siren was heard inside the building. Metal doors slowly came down to cover all the windows. Brick panicked and quickly pushed Butch out. "Quick! Before they stop us!"

As soon as Butch was out, he quickly followed. The window was completely shut the moment his feet touched the building. "Made it out just in time!"

"Sheesh, how big is their fund for this place?" Butch asked as he looked back at the orphanage.

"Who cares, let's just get far away from here already before they call the cops to find us," Brick said as he started to climb down the emergency ladder on the side of the building.

"Right. Let's go!" Butch exclaimed as he followed down.

"Maybe you guys should just leave me... I'm the one that caused the alarm to go off..." Boomer looked down as he felt guilt.

"Oh come on, we're more than just friends, we're brothers now, you get that? And we will always stick together no matter what. Now get your butt down here before we actually leave you," Brick said as he tried to comfort Boomer.

"Alright then," Boomer said as he took a deep breath and continued down the ladder.

The three of them roamed around the city to find a place to stay before the sun went down, but they couldn't. And so they decided to settle in an alleyway for now.

"So, let's get our sleeping bags. We're gonna have to stay here until the sun's back up," Brick spoke as he gestured to stop.

"Uhh... Masa- I mean... Brick?" Boomer nervously called out. Brick inhaled sharply as he realized something.

"We forgot our stuff back at the orphanage, didn't we?" Brick then groaned and stomped his foot. "Darn it!"

"What? You don't have your stuff? Oh well, we'll have fun beating you up anyway."

The boys heard a chuckle from behind them and slowly turned their heads, only to see a strange group of five teenagers, all of who has strangely green skin.

"Woah, do you guys need help?" Boomer asked disgusted.

"You're the only ones who are gonna need help once we're through with you twerps," the green girl wearing a sailor outfit said as she glared.

"Oh yeah? You really think you can take us on?" Butch warned and glared back at the teenagers and held his fist.

"Butch? Come on, let's just get outta here..." Brick insisted as he Boomer tried to pull Butch away from a potential fight.

"Oh look, the ten year old's looking for a fight. Well alright then," the tall guy in the middle wearing some shades spoke and smiled evilly then cracked his knuckles. Butch got ready to kick, but before he could, he was suddenly dragged away.

"I said let's run!" Brick screamed and continued pulling his brother behind him with Boomer following close behind.

"I was about to pummel that ugly guy to the ground," Butch said while gritting his teeth.

"Uhh, speaking of ugly guy...," Boomer tapped Brick's shoulder as they jogged. "They're following us!"

"Oh dear lord... Run faster!" Brick panicked and ran much faster, still dragging Butch behind him.

"We're gonna get you!" the gang running after them yelled out. It was the middle of the night when everything should be quiet, yet strangely, not one of the other people complained about the commotion. They continued running until they came across this old run down house placed between two tall buildings. It doesn't look like anyone lived there, so the boys quickly let themselves in to get out of the gang's sight.

"Where the heck did those twerps run off to?!" one of the teenagers exclaimed.

"Calm down, Ace, they're not worth it, let's go," another voice said. The three boys let out a sigh of relief as they heard the footsteps of the gang moving away. They turned and saw a multitude of scrapped metals and rubber and some discarded and dirty tubes and beakers. They were inside the house alright. If it weren't for the sqeaky floors, leaking roof, and splintered walls they wouldn't have known as it looks like a site for experimentation and invention.

"Brick, I don't think we should be in here, it looks like someone else is already using this place.

"Well then where do you expect us to stay? We've seen it's not safe staying outside. We should just spend the night here, it doesn't look like anyone's home anyway," Brick said as he sat down. "Just... whatever you do, don't touch anything."

"Oops...," a yelp from Boomer was heard as all of a sudden the whole house started to shake. It was no question who was at fault. Brick and Butch turned only to see that Boomer had pulled a lever.

"Boomer you little...argh!" Butch exclaimed as he got ready to punch Boomer, but he did all he can to pull back. He did some deep breaths as he loosened his fist. "Calm down Butch... Calm... down... Alright, I'm alright now, it's all okay."

"What the heck is happening?!" Brick yelled as a strange machine suddenly started emerging from the floor. Brick and Butch had to move out of their way to avoid being lifted as the machine rises. A loud stop was heard as the massive machine fully revealed itself. It was a strange one, indeed. With tubes and buttons galore, they could not find out what the machine is possibly for.

"Ah! I'm sorry! There, I'm bringing it back down," Boomer said as he pushed the lever back down. Brick and Butch were too invested in the machine to move away, and so they started to move underground with the strange machine. "Guys? Guys, get outta there! Oh well..."

And with that, Boomer jumped in through the very little space left between the top of the machine and the floor.

"Ahh, it's dark in here. Perfect place to rest our eyes. We leave first thing in the morning, got it?" Brick instructed.

"Right," Butch nodded as ge got comfortable leaning on the machine.

"Goodnight, Brick, Goodnight, Butch," Boomer mumbled as he was ready to sleep.

"Yeah, goodnight Boomer, night Butch," Brick smiled and found himself a sleeping spot on the floor.

"Yep," Butch quickly replied and they all let sleep take over.

A few hours passed and the sun is already starting to come up, and their only reminder for it is the small distance between the floor of the house and the top of the machine. Brick woke up first and quickly proceeded to wake his brothers up. All of a sudden, the squeak of the door opening was heard. Someone came in.

"Honey! I'm home!" a strange raspy voice exclaimed gleefuly from above. "Too bad there is nobody to greet me..."

Soft sounds of footsteps were heard and the door closed.

"Hey, hey! Wake up! Someone's home," Brick whispered as he wildly shook Butch and Boomer awake. The two finally woke up and heard the noise from above.

"Maybe my chemical Z family will keep me company...Wahh! Ahh!" a loud thud was suddenly heard as if the person fell. Desperate panting followed. THUD! The person was now wheezing and his voice squeaking. All of a sudden, everything shook. The machine was now re emerging to the surface! The boys scurried and hid behind the massive machine, so as not to be seen by the strange man.

"Yes, what a lucky thing it was that I invented this chemical Z monster making machine!" the strange man exclaimed.

"Wait... monster making machine? Who the heck is this gu-" Brick's jaw dropped when he saw that it was not a man, rather the infamous mutated monkey Mojo Jojo. He had not seen him in person before, and Mojo Jojo was indeed massive. The three boys knew of Mojo Jojo from the news before, something about taking a kindergarten hostage for candy, but was not long defeated by the Powerpuff Girls Z. "What is this monkey up to now? Another lame attempt at defeating the Powerpuff Girls?"

"And now I will add Blossom's straw, Bubbles' cotton swab, and Buttercup's stinky sock," Mojo said he proceeded to put the stuff into the machine. The machine suddenly shook by itself, startling the boys behind it. Butch turned and saw that a piece of the machine had fallen off, and the stuff that Mojo put in fell.

"So, these are the Powerpuff Girls' stuff? What a creep, sneaking around for their stuff," Butch said quietly as he groaned with annoyance.

"Huh? I think it needs more evil. There! Armpit hair... bellybutton lint... and, the most evil of all..." a slight squeal was heard from the monkey, "...nose hair!"

"Nose hair? That is freaking disgusting!" Boomer commented with a disgusted expression. "As for these stuff, we should try to return these to the Powerpuff Girls Z before some other creep villain get their hands on these."

"I'll take care of Blossom's straw," Brick quickly said with a stern face, though slight blushing is noticeable. "I'll be the one to give it back to her, no one else."

"Alright, geez dude," Butch looked at him weirdly. As Butch turned to look at Brick, he caught a strange black object from the corner of his eye. It was a black Z ray. Butch's eyes widened and tried to push his brothers out of the way, but it was too late, a single black Z ray hit the three of them.

"We mix it all together and the combination of my evil flare with the Powerpuff Girls' DNA will create the world's most ultimate evil! Gah?! Uh oh... oh, ahhh!" The machine suddenly exploded and created a mushroom cloud seen from kilometers away. It was the force of the black Z ray that caused it. The boys, who were now halfway out of their concious control because of the black Z ray, took the opportunity to try to escape. They were beginning to feel weak, and succumb to the power of the black Z ray, when suddely, a very bright light flashed before their eyes. All three of them are feeling great now, and none of them knew why. What was that bright flash of light? They stood up, feeling great, yet somehow, they still feel weird... like something's very different.

"Ahh... grr... huh? Ahahahaha!" Mojo cheered.

"They call me Brick," Brick introduced. As he moved he noticed and orange thread swing by his eye, except it wasn't a thread. "What the heck?! I'm ginger now?! The other two are looking weird too!"

"Yo I'm Boomer" Boomer introduced. Now instead of his dirty blonde hair and deep blue eyes, his hair and eye colors lightened a bit.

"And I'm Butch!" Butch introduced. Not much noticeable difference was seen in Butch... until he opens his eyes which were now a dark shade of green. His hair was also kept in a small neat ponytail now though his side fringe was still present, covering most of his right eye.

"My experiment worked! I think Mojo shall call you this! The Evil Hairy Jojo Boys!" Mojo declared.

"So he thinks we're his experiments, huh? This should be fun," Brick thought as he felt strangely... evil... but he liked it. Could it be because of the black Z ray?

"Yeah, like that's a good name," Brick commented and stuck his finger up his nose.

"What's your problem, monkey dude?" Boomer replied then stuck his finger up his nose.

"Get a life yo," Butch snickered and stuck his finger in his nose as well.

"I invented you, so you have to do what I say! And take your fingers out of your noses, you filthy boys!" Mojo scolded the three. Each of them took out their weapons and used it on Mojo, their weapoms turning out to be the stuff of the Powerpuff Girls that they picked up. Brick used his straw to launch spit balls, Boomer used the cotton swabs to throw his own earwax, and Butch used a stinky sock as a boomerang.

"Ahh! Hey, stop that! That is dirty! Why do you have to be so cruel?!" Mojo said as he barely dodged each of their attack but all of a sudden, Butch's stinky sock landed on Mojo's face.

"That is dirty! That smells like rotten cabbage!" Mojo exclaimed as he ran around trying to remove the sock.

"We can make up our own name, thank you very much," Brick said as he stood proud.

"We're the Rowdyruff Boys!"

"We are more than just friends. We are brothers. Maybe not by blood, but we are by heart."
