TWENTY SIX
Diamond Barry – so sweet, caring and always putting others first before her. Those who are close to her know how selfless she is and just how much she hates seeing her loved ones in pain. She always tries to make it better one way or another. She hates feeling sorry for herself and she hates wearing her emotions on her sleeve to prevent anyone from getting through to her enough to hurt her. Enough to break her heart.
She allowed one man in and he broke her heart, she let another one in and she broke his heart without knowing. But chances are if she knew, she'd try to make it better. That was who she was, caring and sweet.
And Orlando York has fallen for her so deep he had no idea how to get out.
Tuesday arrived, Janelle popped into his office again and literally begged him to do something about Diamond's disappearance but not only she did, Lisa called him as well asking for his help. She knew Diamond long enough and this was not her, she wouldn't disappear into thin air just like that.
He finally listened to the voice inside of him and called his team to check her whereabouts.
Williamsburg. That was her last location before her phone died and the location was captured way before.
"Boss, it is an old building under the subway in Williamsburg." The IT guy told Orlando who flicked his nose – confused. What the hell was happening and why on earth would she by herself go to an old building under the subway in Williamsburg out of all places. Who the fuck took her there?
"Getting access isn't easy to the bloody building. It has up to a hundred rooms and somehow it has high tech security. So going there just by yourself doesn't sound like a good idea. You need to call the police... or somebody." The guy spoke again as he reverted his eyes from the laptop on Orlando's desk.
"A hundred rooms? What the fuck is this building for?" Orlando asked.
"It used to be a brothel."
"Fuck that," Mr York cursed. "Are you coming with me? Like you said I can't go alone."
"And I also said you should call the police..." the man was not about to be caught up in the crossfire of what will go down under the subway. He wasn't cut out for such lives. He was scrawny and lived his life eating noodles, smoking weed, binging on chocolate slabs and hacking systems and playing video games that paid him some good money for a living. If someone were to attack him, punch him he'd die on the spot. He was a softie and he had no problem being that way. He was not about to play that dangerous game with his life.
"Sorry boss."
Orlando looked at him, unbelieving that the man was blatantly refusing to help him, wimp. "Fine, I will call the damn police Frankie." He walked to his desk and picked the telephone and dialled the police. Something was up and he was going to the damn house and find what the hell is going on.
He felt dread creep unto him but he refused to acknowledge it. He wasn't ready to panic just yet, although as he was waiting to be transferred to a detective, he felt like he was wasting time. Precious time.
The police did take their sweet time but when they arrived, Orlando was already in Williamsburg waiting for them as they told him not to move and make hasty decision. Since the police knew just how well secured the place was with technology, they brought the big guns, one way or another they are going into the place. And they did... bombing the main door which took down the next wall as the police officers armed and protected marched through, guns ready to fire.
The place at the intrusion had alarms going off as loud as hell almost blocking their hearing.
Orlando grabbing a bullet proof vest from the chief police officer, he followed through as they went through every room trying to locate Diamond.
Orlando went to a different direction, a room by the far left painted with a red door, opening the door, three more police officers followed him, he was unarmed and might just end up dead. Who wired up a fucking old building that was once a brothel?
Before he could arrive anywhere, Daniel walked out a bloodied Diamond in his arms a knife against her throat. Her top was covered in blood and her face was purple while her left eye was closed up and turning purple blue-ish.
"Stand back!" Daniel shouted saliva spitting out of his mouth. "She's mine. If you come any closer I will slit her pretty throat." He warned.
At that moment Orlando saw his life flash before his eyes. He never knew how much it felt to love someone and be this afraid to lose them, lose them forever to death. Yes he had lost his mother and it cut him so deep but he had fallen in love with Diamond and wanted her to know that, wanted her to give him the chance and he wanted to watch her grow old and nurture his children. Seeing her bloodied up, a knife pressed to his neck... he felt powerless.
"Man... don't hurt her please. I'll pay you whatever you want, just don't hurt her." Orlando begged while the police officers stood by and watched trying to manoeuvre the situation. This was another hostage situation. They had to thread carefully.
"I don't want your filthy stupid money." Daniel yelled again, his eyes red as if he were crying. Of course he was, he cried for hurting the woman he loved. He cried when he woke up and saw her curled on the floor foetal style, vomit next to her and face swelled up with bruises, bruises he caused.
"I love her, you don't love her. She doesn't love you. She's mine." Daniel sounded deranged and everyone on the other team agreed that he was indeed mental and a danger not only to society but to himself too.
"Okay... okay if you love her why the fuck did you rough her up? Is that love?" Orlando was getting agitated as second ticked by.
"She wanted to kill me. She took the gun and..." and Daniel burst into fits of laughter and that that moment he lost himself in the moment and Orlando lunged at him, grabbing the arm that held the knife while another police officer made quick to catch Diamond before she fell to the ground and acquiring new bruises.
Orlando punched Daniel down and when he fell to the ground, he straddled him and punched the craziness out of his body. He totally messed him up until five men pulled him off the almost unrecognisable man.
"You better lock him up or I swear I will kill him." Orlando warned.
"Now - now son, you can't come around and say things like that. I could have you arrested." The chief of the police spoke up and as they cuffed the bloodied man taking him to the car.
Orlando looked at the chief like he did not care to be arrested as long the piece of shit would be freezing up in the morgue.
Taking Diamond off another police officer's arms he carried her to his car and then to the hospital. He didn't call neither her friends nor her parents, he just stayed by her side as she lay there with an oxygen mask on her face.
Taking hold of his hand she kissed it. "Please baby... please come back to me." He continuously kissed her hand making a small prayer.
This woman was his and he'd be damned if some crazy asshole would hurt her and live to tell the tale. And he'd make it his personal mission to let her know that he was crazily head over heels in love with her.
"O... lando." She breathed and his eyes snapped up to hers, only one was slightly open and she looked nothing like his Diamond. He was going to fuck Daniel up for what he did to her.
"Shhh baby it's okay... I am here." He kissed her forehead and she squeezed his hand.
Was she happy he was there? Was he happy he called her baby? Or was she just thankful he found her?
Orlando was confused and now realized how those other women he had rejected must have felt. Not knowing where they stood with him and having hope that he might just notice them and date them and eventually marrying them.
He was those women now... he was wondering and hoping... wishing and praying.
Well Diamond is found but what do you think will happen to her? With her not so clean and pretty experience with the males do you think she will give Orlando the chance he is so dearly hoping and praying for?
