TW: toxic relationships, abandonment and manipulation

Colin's POV:
-high school-
-year 10-
-before the apocalypse-

I was waiting at the bus stop for Justin we where going to catch the bus together. The bus arrives I go to step in when I see Justin running for the bus "hey hurry up!" I call out as I step in he jumps in. He runs to the door "better get here early next time" The bus driver says. I sitting down at the back Justin sits next to me "sorry I slept in" he leans on me "go to sleep late?" "Yeah I had a lot of homework" he opens his bag getting his phone "go to sleep early and do homework when you wake up" he suggested "yeah" "how was your weekend?" I ask "oh it was good I meet up with this guy that's in my drama class and I gave him my number" he says happily "that's cool what's his name?" "Hunter" he answered "oh I know him his in the track team with me" I smile. Hunter wasn't what I would call a good guy he was cool but not someone I would be friends with.
The bus gets to school we walk out and to our lockers that where next to each other I put my bag away grabbing out one of my sketchbook and pencil case. Justin was getting his math books out so he didn't have to come back. "Hey let's go the the soccer field" I say "sure" we had about thirty minutes till our first class when we get to the soccer field their were about five girls playing soccer "the girls soccer team must have a game soon" Justin says sitting down. The soccer field had I small hill next to it were we usually sit, "What classes do you have today?" I ask "I have math then after recess I have drama then music" "do we have homework for music?" I ask opening my sketchbook "no we just needed to practice for our test" he says. "Oh ok well I have English then art after recess" I say starting to sketch. Justin gets a notification on his phone he opens it and text back "who is it?" I ask "oh no one" he turns off his phone "if you say so" the bell when "see you after class" he says getting up "Yeah see you bestie" I walk to class.
After class I go to my locker putting away my books as I waited for Justin to arrive. I was there for about a minute before I saw him "hey" I smile "hi" he opens his locker "how was class?" I ask "good but I got a test in a week" "oh that's fun" I joke "yeah let's go" we walk to the soccer field again to see more girls playing. "Yeah they definitely have a game soon" I mention "how was english?" "Good we where writing stories and the teacher said we have to tell the story in anyway we can I'm going to make a comic" I say "that's cool" we talk for the the rest of recess before going to our different classes.
I'm making a clay fish for a mixed media assignment I had made the body and was working on the tail "hey Colin" I look next to me "oh hey who are you?" "Oh I'm seek we're in the same history class" "oh yeah we are" I say shaping the tail "hey what are you making?" He says looking over my shoulder "are you in this class?" "Yes but I never come it's boring" he says "Seek come here" the teacher calls him over.
After class Justin is already at our lockers "hey" I say putting away my books "can hunter sit with us?" He asks "sure" "ok see you there I'm going to get him" he runs off. I walk to the usual place we sit seeing the soccer team practicing sill. I sit there for about ten minutes waiting for Justin "hey you!" I look over to where a voice was coming from "me?" I ask "yeah can you be a goalie for us one of the girls is absent today" one of the girls ask. I look around for Justin not seeing him "sure nothing better to do" I get up. After twenty minutes of being goalie the bell goes "hey thanks bro" one of the girls with pink hair give me a fist bump "no problem" I smile before heading to class. I sit a a drum set playing a simple beat the door opens and I see Justin "hey" he smiles "hey where were you?" "Oh sorry but Hunter doesn't like the soccer field" he says "but you could have gotten me?" "Yeah but we always hang out you can go one day without me" he smiles sitting at a of the keyboards "yeah" I say feeling hurt.
"Ok class" the teacher says "go in partners you will be preforming a song of your choice" she continues. "Hey bestie what song should we do?" Justin asks "you choose" I say opening my book and started to scribble on my page. "Ok we will do you got a friend in me" he says "ok" he says beginning to practised on the keyboard well I played on my phone. "Hey do you want to practice?" He asks "what did you and hunter talk about?" I ask cutting off his question "what is with you today I've done nothing wrong" he states "it's not your fault I'm just having a bad day" I say leaving the classroom. I looked at my phone we still had thirty five minutes till the end of class I walk to the back of the school the see seek "hey what are you doing?" He asks "I don't know" I say sitting down "you good? "Yeah" "so you just ditching?" "I guess so" as time passed seek left and I was left alone.
The bell goes I stand up and run to the bus sitting up the back I plug in my headphones and listen to Jonah Montana. The bus is almost full Justin walks in sitting next to me. "Hey man" I greet him "hey" he smiles.
After the bus ride we get off we walk for five minutes or so before splitting up as I went down my street. I walk inside to see my mum cooking "hey how was school?" She asked "it was good" I say going to the shed out the back where I keep all my art supplies. I place my bag down and started to play with some pants and glitter.
After three hours of panting  I go inside and to my room where I do some English homework starting on the cartoon, after another hour of drawing random ideas I go to sleep.

Justin's POV:
It was 2am and I sill haven't gotten to sleep I'm texting Hunter and he doesn't want me to stop talking to him which is fine but I'm really tired 'hey I'm going to sleep soon' 'why do you not want to talk to me?' He text 'Colin says that I should get to sleep early' I say 'why do you lessen to him?' 'He's my friend?' 'Well if he was then why is he judging you for staying up?' He asks 'I'm really tired' I say 'no your not you just don't want to talk to me' he says 'no that's not it' he doesn't reply 'I'm sorry' I text before falling asleep.
I wake up late again I get ready and run to the bus stop to see Colin listening to music bobbing his head. "Hey Colin" I say "oh hey... what time did you go to sleep?" He asked "why are you judging?" I ask "no you just look drained" he says "what ever, how are you?" I ask "good you?" "Tired" the bus arrived we get on sitting next to each other like always.
As we get to school and do our normal thing going to our lockers I get a text from hunter he asks to meet at recess "hey Colin is it ok if we hang with Hunter at recess?" "Sure" he smiles grabbing his pencil case and book. We go to the soccer field sitting down the soccer team was practicing again. "Why did you stay up so late?" He asks as he draws a bird "I was texting a friend" I say fiddling with my necklace. "Was it Hunter?" He asks "yeah why?" "Just a guess" he says "what ever" I start to look around to see Hunter talking to some kid "hey Colin I'll be back one second" I say getting up walking over to Hunter.
"Hey Hunter" I say "oh hi Justin" he walks over to me pulling me away from his friends "how are you?" I ask "fine it's not like you care" he says "what?" "You never spend time with me" he says "well we are going to spend time together recess" "yeah but Colin is going to be there and I don't think he likes me" he says looking away. "Well we can spend time together after school" "I'm busy after school can we hang out at recess together?" "But what about Colin" "what about him he's a big boy he doesn't need you at his side twenty four seven" "ok" I walk away back to Colin I see him talking to some of the girls playing soccer, well I guess he does have other friends. As I get to them the bell goes "hey we have science" I say "oh yeah let's go" he say pulling he to class.
We sit at the back of the room waiting for class to start "hey did we have homework?" Colin asks "no just had to finish the work from last class" I answer.
After class we go to our lockers putting our things away. "Bye" I say "where are you going aren't we going to see Hunter?" "Oh sorry it's just me and Hunter" "ok it's fine" he walks off.
I walk over to Hunter and his friends he walks up to me "hey what took you so long?" He asks "I was putting my books away" "we'll be quicker next time" he jokes. "Yeah sorry" I look over to the soccer field to see Colin playing soccer. "Hey come over here" Hunter calls me "yes?" I ask "do you have any money?" He asks "yeah why?" "I'm hungry can you go to the canteen?" He asks "can you pay me back?" "Yeah sure" he goes back to talking to his friends.

Colin's POV:
After Justin left to see Hunter I walked to the soccer field angry at him for changing his plans and leaving me by myself again. "Hey Colin!" Some of the girls from the score team run over to me "hey" I smile "do you want to be goalie for us again?" They ask "yeah I was ditched anyway" I answer "oh that sucks" one said as she runs to kick the ball, "yeah" I run to the goal blocking a kick.
Some of the girls introduced themselves, one had curly shoulder length hair her name was Kim, there was Melissa she was tall with tan skin she was dating Ash who had a under cut which looked good on her and Amy who had long hair that went to her hip but she always has it in a plate to keep it from getting tangled.
After the bell went I went to my wood work class. "Hey Colin" the teacher says as I walk in "hey" I walk to the back of the room. I was making a table that had cup holders! I was up to painting it I was debating between spray painting it or by brush. Spray painting it would be faster I get out some different colours, I go with orange and blue.
After class I go straight to the back of the school to see seek with some other kids that were smoking so I go back to the soccer field "hey Colin" Justin runs up to me "hey" "were have you been?" He seems worried "bath room" "oh ok" "aren't you hanging out with Hunter?" I ask "why do you care?" He asks "you have been changing what your doing every time I see you" I answer "sorry it's just Hunter doesn't think you like him so-" "wait what I'm in track with him why would he think that?" "Well maybe you were mean or something?" "Mean? I've hardly speak to him don't make excuses he was lying" "he wouldn't lie to me!" "Hey what's going on?" Melissa and some others from the soccer team walk over to us "nothing" I say "ok if you say so" they leave "look I don't think you know Hunter that well maybe you should talk to him" Justin says. "You know what your right I'll go talk to him after school" I sit down "grate" he walks off. I look at the ground we never fight why is this effecting me so much? He doesn't have to spend all his time with me but I feel so bad. My eyes start to water "did you to break up?" Ash sits opposite to me "what?" "You and the other boy?" "N-no we're just friends" "what happened?" "I- he has been changing his plans saying we were going to be spending time together with this guy then to change it to just them last minute" "oh I see" "and I don't have the right to be upset with him he didn't nothing wrong" tears fall onto my lap "well he may not have done anything wrong but you are aloud to feel how you want" "but I don't want to feel like this" "that's ok" she pats my back standing up going back to the other girls.
My next class was history with Justin I didn't want to go, turns out Melissa and Kim had a gardening class and the teacher never watches them and they invited me to help. Amy had photographic and just took photos of the flowers and stuff for class well talking to us. I ended up staying there for most of the lessons before ditching the last five minutes jumping on to the bus. Justin didn't get on the bus so I guess he got picked up as the bus arrived at my stop I see Justin waiting there. "Hey" I say walking past him "where were you?" He asks "when?" "In class you didn't show up" "oh yeah" I go to turn up my street but he followed me "so why weren't you there?" "Didn't feel like going and why weren't you on the bus?" I ask "I was picked up by... my uncle" he says looking at his phone "so are you coming to my place or just following me?" "Your place" he says as we walk to my house.
We walk in "hey sweetie how was school?" My mum calls "good Justin's here to" I say back "ok is he staying over?" She asks I look over at him "no sorry my dad wants me how in a few hours" he answered "ok have fun" we walk to my room he sits at my desk. "so I've seen you around the soccer team?" He states "yeah?" I say confused "what's that about?" He asks "oh they needed a goalie because one of them were sick or something so now I'm there go to goalie" "oh ok" he says "what did I miss in class?" I ask sitting on my bed "nothing just the teacher talking about when he was younger "wow such a boomer" I say "yeah why didn't you come to class I know you said you didn't want to but why?" "I had a bad day" I say grabbing a sketchbook. "You said that yesterday" he says "yeah sorry about that" I say starting to draw "what's happening?" He asks "you ever have this friend that tells you one thing then changes there mind without telling you until the last second messing up your plans?" "I guess so but he or she probably didn't mean to" he says "yeah it's fine" I smile.

Justin's POV:
Colin smiles at me it's fake I've known him to long for him to trick me in to thinking his ok.
After a hour or to of talking I had to go home I had practice in thirty minutes and was running home. When I get home babba Jay was talking with my dad "hey what did I miss?" I ask "nothing but you need to get ready Babba Jay is going to drive you there I need to go paper work" my dad leaves "ok let's go" Babba Jay says walking outside to his car.
On the way there I get a text from hunter asking me to talk. 'Sorry can't talk in the way to work' 'you work?' He asks 'yeah I get money from somewhere' I text back 'whatever bye' he says as we arrived. "Hey kiddo go inside I'm going to park the car he says as I get out before driving off.
After practice we drive home "so how's school been?" Babba Jay asks "good" I say playing on my phone.
When we arrived home I get another text from Hunter 'hey you finish work?' 'Yeah but I have some homework to do' he doesn't reply.

Colin's POV:
It's been about three weeks since Justin has started talking to hunter he's been spending less time with me he hasn't come over to my house since we finished our music homework, and no longer talks to me outside of class. I now spend most days skipping class's I have with him and playing soccer at lunch.
"So you going to class?" Ash asks "I have music so no" "I thought you liked music?" She asks "I do it's just that Justin in in that class" "well me and Kim are going to skip so if you want to join us?" "Yeah thanks" I grab a apple out of my bag and eat it. "So you heard from Justin lately?" She ask "no since he blocked my number" "wait what why would he do that?" "I think he replaced me" I say making my eyes water. "I think you should go to class and asks what's up with him if he doesn't want to talk" me and Kim will be at the back of the school" "ok mum!" I smirk "bye son!" She giggles.
I walk to class sitting at the drums waiting for the teacher. "Hello class today we will me doing more team work in teams of two" I look around for someone to go with but everyone is already has a partner. "Miss I have got a partner" I say "go with Justin" I look over to Justin who was at one of the keyboards. "Hey" I sit next to him "hey" he looks up he looks tired and had a small cut on his cheek with a slight purple round it "what happened to you?" I ask worried "nothing" He says. "Why did you block me?" I ask "I didn't" "check" I say. He cheeks his phone "that's odd the only person that's had my phone would be Hunter" "did he hit you?" I ask "what no" is covers his cheek. "I'm going to kill that-" I was cut off by Justin covering my mouth. "Don't" he look scared "why he has no right to touch you" I say "it's fine it was my fault I made him mad" he explains I stand up and leave I walk over to where ash and Kim where "hey how'd it go?" Ash asks "I'm going to kill Hunter!" "Wait that happened?" Kim asks "he hit him he hurt Justin" I sit down "don't worry we will kill him for you" Kim jokes "he hurt my Justin!" I mumble angrily.
Lunch starts and me and half the girls soccer team walks over to Justin Hunter and his friends. "Hey Hunter" I smile "hey man what's up?" He asks confused "respecting people is up" "what?" "You have ten seconds to run before we kick your ass!" Amy yells he walks up and tries to punch me as I stepped back "don't touch him" Ash steps on his foot "the fuck is wrong with you?" He spits at Ash "that was a mistake" I say as Mellissa grabs him by the neck "don't you dare think of doing that again to my girlfriend again!" Justin runs behind me hugging me "I'm sorry I don't know why I put up with his shit" he say hunter's friends all left as Hunter was dragged around the school grounds half unconscious. "Hey you want to come over to my house after school?" I ask "sure" he smiles as we go to our last class of the day.
