Overprotective Lopho, secret relationship!
3rd person Pov
--------------------------------
A small red-tailed fox crept from their den, being careful to not make a sound. They looked back and forth and took a step outside their den. Once one foot was out, the other came out as well, not before she had sniffed the air to check for certain mages of the guild she was located in currently.
Once she was completely out of her den she stuck low to the ground, she had her back flatter and her tail low. She did not want to be spotted by the people of the guild, nor did she want to be followed. A fresh run of adrenaline rushed through her as she ran to the coastline of the island. She placed all four paws in the water and suddenly she was a dolphin! She had seen the beautiful creature only once before but the memory of the magnificent beast remained fresh in her mind.
She swam through the ocean gracefully taking dives and leaping out of the water for air when she needed it. It's fun being a dolphin she thought to herself as she grew closer to her destination. She could feel butterflies in her stomach, or maybe she had eaten too many cookies before coming here.
Similar to how she had left her island, another had left their home discreetly and had begun walking through the streets of Atlantide.
He had little to no trouble walking through the streets at night, he was already disliked among the public and was well known to kill anyone who got in his way. So everyone knew to steer clear of him at any time, well everyone except a few late-night drinkers, those tended to not realize before it was too late. But he was a little more patient with them as well, he'd give them a warning and slip his name into the conversation to avoid them and it seemed to do the trick if he wanted them to bugger off.
He continued to walk through the alleys of the city getting closer to his destination. When he was just outside of the meeting grounds, he couldn't help but let a small smile reach his face. He honestly would never admit it to anyone who'd find out but he truly did enjoy the time he spent here, with her. She had a way to liven the night and a smile that was always glowing in happiness.
There was something about her cheerful optimism that drew him to her, he normally didn't like being near people at all but this was different. She didn't treat him like some sort of monster, she always treated him as though he was a person and a person she cared for. If she was faking it the whole time she'd have to have some fairly good acting skills to increase her heart rate like that. He let out a quiet chuckle at the last thought and sat down by the meeting tree.
He could hear light footsteps coming towards him and tilted his head slightly, he was about to bet up to check but a scent of pastries passed by, and he relaxed once more. Giving a minor grin to the petite woman. As she walked up to their meeting spot, she noticed his smile and returned it with a giggle.
"Heya Viper!" The young fox said enthusiastically as she plopped down next to the normally grumpy snake.
"Hey, Kay." He replied quietly with a small smile.
"I hope you don't mind but I brought a bunch of baked goods, I was kinda hoping you'd try some but you don't have to!" She said at a rapid pace. She could be hard to follow sometimes, especially when she was nervous.
"Is there something in the pastries I should know about?" He asked with his eyebrows raised in question, you could hear the amusement in his tone.
"Well, I made them as boosters. You know how you're a poison dragonslayer? I made some pastries using your element so if you wanted something to munch on you'd have it..." He didn't have to see to know she was blushing, you could hear it in her voice. It was obvious and admittedly adorable, but he'd never in a million years tell her that. For now, he'd just enjoy the bond he had with her for as long as she'd let him.
"Huh, never thought you of all people would put poison in cookies." He said with a slight chuckle, giving her a light nudge.
"Well, I did it! And I also really hope you like them I couldn't exactly taste test them, now that I think about it they probably don't taste that good." She said looking over to the slayer.
He smirked and grabbed one of the baked goods, "I'll be the judge of that, and it's your baking. How the hell could it be bad?"
He bit into the cookie, a look of surprise crossed his face for a second, but he kept eating the cookie till it was gone.
". . . The only complaint I got is that they're dry." He said after he finished, he looked over to his left to see a look of relief wash over the petite mage.
"If that's the only problem I should be able to fix that for next time!" She said with a bright grin on her face. She relaxed next to him and laughed at something.
"What are you laughing at?" The poison slayer asked curiously, as he looked at her intently.
"I just remembered how we first met, you were trying to get answers out of the guild because you couldn't ask Bri."
"Ah, that. . . Yeah that was not one of my best moments. I remember that you snapped at me then I targeted your time wizard friend."
"His name is Jakey, silly!" She half shouted the last sentence while giving him a light smack on the arm, before she rested against him.
"I'm aware, you correct me every time." He sighed and relaxed, leaning his head against hers. It was moments like this that made things seem a lot simpler.
Viper's pov
--------------------------------
When I had woken up, it was already morning, I realized Kay was still there with me as well! I shook her a bit to wake her up, and it appeared to work, she was still drowsy but as soon as she realized what time If day it was she jumped to her feet.
"Crap! We overslept!" She was somewhat panicked and had begun to pace.
"I should be able to come up with an excuse on my end but what about you?" I asked her, she was still pacing so I grabbed her by her shoulders and forced her to look at me.
"Kay. Do you have an excuse?" She shook her head.
"I normally get back to the guild on time so I didn't think of one." Her eyes became somewhat downcast.
I sighed and pulled her into my arms. This girl will be the death of me one of these days.
"Alright then, I have an idea but it involves me walking with you to your guildhall." I was somewhat annoyed that I'd even have to go over there but oh well, you can't have everything, she didn't tell me what happened the last time she got caught but she seemed a little stressed about it.
"Are you sure that will work?" Kay asked me looking up to see my face.
"Yeah, that cat will probably make me do something while I'm there though." I sighed outwardly in annoyance. I could do it and knowing Kay she won't leave me alone while I'm doing something and even when I'm not she'll find some excuse.
"Okay, if you're sure and if Lopho does make you anything I'll get you some of those cookies was talked about last night, probably with some tea or milk this time though." She gave me a small grin and tightened the hug she had wrapped me in while we were talking.
"That sounds fair to me." I couldn't help but let a small smile find its way to my lips.
3rd person Pov
--------------------------------
The two mages had set off from their meeting tree and had gotten about halfway through Atlantide, though unfortunately not without looks, I mean this was Viper a mage known to kill anyone who got in his way, walking alongside Kay who was notorious for her kindness and always had a smile planted on her face. Not to mention their guilds were also known to be complete opposites so it was quite a strange sight.
The two finally made it to the Protectors island and it wasn't without its hardships, a few people had stopped them on their way to see if Kay was alright and then there was the boat they took here. Unfortunately, Viper had almost heaved up his dinner because of it.
In fact, he was still a little sick from the boat ride but he hid it well. Well, at least he tried too, he was a little pale due to the sickness and was shakey. But other than that he was fine.
They had managed to get into the guildhall without being noticed by the residents of the island. Unfortunately, a certain slayer came through the door just as they were going into the kitchen.
"Kay, where have you been?! The entire guild has been looking for you!" As the Fire mage got closer he noticed Viper standing a little closer than he should.
"Wait a second. Is there something going on here that I don't know about?" He asked looking back and forth between his guildmate and rival.
"Umm, no but I was going to give Viper some of those booster cookies that I made. I could probably make your batch since you can't eat any of his for obvious reasons." She said with a sideways glance at the taller mage.
"Hah, nice try Kay but you two's scent is all over each other meaning either you've been hanging out a lot more than you or you've- wait no way." He raised his eyebrow and gave Viper a questioning look that said he had figured it out.
Viper took one look at the matchstick and let out a long sigh before nodding his head and putting a finger to his lips. Bryan's eyes widened and a grin formed on his face.
"Kay, if what I'm thinking is true then- dear lord how the hell? I'm sorry but this honestly came as a shock!"
"Heh, yeah. Don't tell Lopho! He'll get so mad!" Kay looked at him with pleading eyes.
"No worries, this is your own business I won't but into it, but I suggest that you start wearing perfume. All slayer have strong noses, and it'll keep it secret from the other guilds." He said as he gave them a relaxed and accepting look. He smiled at the two before he walked into the kitchen to grab some sweet rolls.
"I honestly didn't expect that to be his reaction." Viper nodded his head in agreement, then proceeded to walk over to the kitchen with Kay.
They all spent about thirty minutes in there just eating and chatting amongst themselves before Lopho walked into the guildhall.
"Kay!? Where were you?! We were all looking for you! Bryan why didn't you tell me you had found her??" He was asking so many questions that it was getting difficult to tell what he was saying.
"Okay, first of all, Lopho I didn't say anything because I was hungry and Kay made sweet rolls, two I remembered that Kay had some stuff from another city she had to pick up, I just forgot to tell you. And Viper went with her to make sure nothing happened and both are here fit as a fiddle." Bryan finished his drawn-out explanation to Lopho, All the while Kay and Viper stared at him surprised he was able to come up with such a good excuse.
"Is this true you two?" Lopho asked suspiciously, luckily both of them smelled like the frosted treats at the moment so he didn't smell anything yet.
"Yep, I finished helping her with that, and then she dragged me over to your guildhall to eat breakfasts and try out something called booster cookies. If you want you can ask her about the boat ride. Wasn't fun at all." Lopho looked at the snake somewhat shocked it was the most he'd ever heard him say and then he turned to Kay.
"How was the boat ride?"
"It was nice, well for me at least Viper almost threw up because it was too rocky," She said doing her best to look convincing.
"Oh, alright then, enjoy your breakfast and Viper I expect that you are back at Grimshade soon I don't think Allumos will be too happy if you're late for a training session!" He yelled as he left the guildhall.
The group of three let out a collective sigh.
"How'd you come up with that story so quickly?" The poison slayer asked.
"You don't think I don't make excuses for people when we're having a surprise party? I'm the one that's normally distracting them, when I'm not it's Kay. So I tend to know how to lie if it's dor the right thing." He finished, Viper gave Kay a questioning look and she just nodded her head.
"Well damn, looks like you really aren't just some one-trick pony."
"One rude, two next time a dragonslayer finds their mate you tell me or at least bring the pair here. If there are any I wanna know, Call me noisy but it is good to know who not to piss off."
"Fair point, I might."
Kay couldn't help but laugh her friend and her lover were getting along for once and it made her very happy. She rested her head on the table and closed her eyes. This was a nice experience.
