[M] - "I know we can!"

Months passed, but Jan and Jessie never saw anything of the Poznanka family again. Soon, they were grown enough to go out on their own, and so they did, often. But, eventually, they began to tire of exploring the same old patch of the forest near their house, where their parents allowed them to go...

Jessie - Hey Jan...

Jan - Yeah?

Jessie - Wanna go on an adventure?

Jan - You mean... further than Mumsi and Popsi said to go?

Jessie - ...Perhaps...

Jan - I mean... they'll get mad if they find out...

Jessie - "If," Jan, "if!" We can find our way home! It'll be easy!

Jan - ...I suppose we can! We're just as good as they are!

Yvette - Children...

Jan and Jessie - YAH!!

They wheeled around, and saw their mother behind them...

Yvette - Where are you going?

Jan - J-just to pick some Cherri!

Yvette - "Further than Mumsi and Popsi said to go?"

Jan - Oh...

Jessie - Oh, come on, Mumsi! We can find our way back, I promise!

Diesel walked up, beside his wife.

Diesel - It's very dangerous out there, you know...

Jessie - We can defend ourselves, just like you taught us, Popsi!

Diesel - I... I...

He walked up to them, and held them tightly.

Diesel - Just... come home before too long, okay?

Jessie - Of course, Popsi!

And so, the two sisters happily made their way out into the forest. They went further and further, but they found that Cherri was very uncommon so far from home.

Jan - This is starting to seem kind of pointless...

Jessie - Of course it's not pointless! We're gonna prove our independence!

Jan - The sun is going down...

Jessie - So?

Jan - We were using the sun to be sure of what direction we were going... It'll be hard to get home if it goes down...

Jessie - Oh... well... I guess we have to go home then...

So, Jan and Jessie turned around and headed for home, but the sun was down far sooner than they had anticipated, and all they had was the dull moonlight.

Jessie - Welp... do you remember how to tell location with the moon?

Jan - No...

Jessie - Okay then... Maybe we should just stop here and wait for the sun to come up...

Jan - B-but Mumsi and Popsi will worry!

Jessie - We'll be fine.

Suddenly, there was a crashing noise through the woods, as some large creature approached them. The two sisters held each other tightly, shuddering with fear as they heard the beast approaching. Finally, they saw, the Pokemon running through the forest was a Leafeon, with a panicked look on his face, and tears streaming from his eyes. He squinted at them through the darkness, until he figured who they were.

Leafeon - Jan? J-Jessie?!

Jessie - Who are you?!

Leafeon - I-I'm Krakow! Krakow Poznanka!

Jan - Krakow? You evolved, congratulations!

Krakow - I wish I hadn't...

Krakow flopped down to the ground and began to cry.

Jessie - Eh, Krakow, what happened?

Krakow - Ojciec... he... he... I was out... bringing home dirt...

Jan - Why dirt?

Krakow - He said always, if we didn't eat meat, we would eat dirt... but none of us is a good hunter... so all we ate was dirt... so we were all scrawny... except for him... but then... I brought the dirt home... and there was... he had...

Jessie - Hm?

Krakow - He killed Budapest and Matka... and he ate them...

Jan - Ohhhh!!

Jan shuddered harder, and clung to her sister.

Krakow - Wh-when he saw me there... h-he caught me by the ears... and said I could join them... or become like him... o-of course I didn't want to die... so he took me to the mossy rock...

Krakow closed his eyes and shook his head, hoping to forget what had happened there.

Krakow - B-but... h-he began to regret... keeping me alive... he knew I couldn't keep it a secret... and now he wants to kill me too...

Krakow put his paws over his head and sobbed, too afraid to do anything else. Suddenly, a larger, more powerful Leafeon emerged from the underbrush, looking down at them.

Lodz - Look at you... and I thought your sister was pathetic... but, at least, now I'll have a meal for my troubles...

Jessie - I-It won't be for free!

Jessie took up a fighting stance, but Lodz only laughed.

Lodz - What, you think you can defeat me?

Jan - I-I know we can!

Jan took up a stance beside her sister, the two of them standing between the two Leafeons defiantly.

Lodz - This will be an easy- OOF!

Suddenly, Jessie struck out with her powerful tail, catching Lodz's forelegs and sending him to the ground. Jan tackled him from the side, striking his ribs. He released his vines, trying to ensnare the two sisters, whipping them when he missed grabbing them. Eventually, he found purchase on Jessie's tail, and began to retreat, dragging her away with him.

Jan - NO!!

Jessie - Get home, Jan, he's letting you go! Ach!

Jan - I won't let you go!!

Jan tackled Lodz again in his retreat, and began gnawing at the vine that had restricted Jessie. He cried out in pain and anger, and, when the vine was fully bitten through, he thrashed what was left of it and struck Jan on the forehead, then retreated without anything.

Jan - W-we did it... J-Jessie...

Jessie - Th-thanks... Jan...

And, as a glow began to surround the two sisters, they lost consciousness, and two more vines gently carried them away...
