Chapter One: The Hunt Begins

Damon Cro is a very special boy. He is a child genius; graduated MIT at eight, and college at twelve. He is now thirteen and living at Dunwoody Village Apartments in Atlanta, Georgia. He has two brothers and no parents because they were mauled in the middle of the night on a hiking trail during their anniversary. One of the brothers is older, and the other one is younger. His older brother, Zach, is twenty-eight and works as a mechanic. He's the one who brings home the money and pays the bills and puts food on the table.

Now, on to the youth. His younger brother is Drew. Since he is only nine, he should be in the fourth grade. Since his parents died, Drew became uncontrollable at school, so Zach dropped him out. Damon was a mathematical, technological, etc. genius, so Drew was homeschooled by his brother. Drew soon became a star student. He was even discovering things that Damon hadn't yet.

Damon's room is fairly small. It has a twin bed with gray sheets and red blankets. Next to his bed was a nightstand that had two drawers and an alarm clock on it. There's a bookshelf next to it with a small table facing directly towards the end of his bed. On top of that table is a sixty-inch TV with a Roku under the table.

One day, Damon was browsing YouTube on his TV when suddenly, he remembered that there was a string of disappearances when his parents died. Also, he remembered that the claw marks were about the size of a finger if enlarged. He didn't think much of it when he viewed the bodies to identify them. He just thought it was a large cougar.

So then, he looked up all disappearances in Atlanta, Georgia over the past thirteen years on his iPad. He found several digital newspapers full of them. There were nineteen disappearances total. Including his parents'. As he looked closer at the victims' descriptions, he couldn't find a connection.

So he decided to take a closer look.

Since Damon is a music freak, he's more productive if he's listening to music. He plugged his headphones into his iPad, opened Amazon Music, and selected "Hey Brother" by Avicii and put it on loop. He went to his Facebook account and searched the victims one by one. Then, he tried Twitter. He tried all the social media he could until he concluded they were all antisocial. Or they all have something to hide.

He searched their jobs, where they lived, friends and family, etc. and found out that when they got out of college, they never married. All disappeared or killed by wild animals. Conspiracy? Damon thought. I think so. Damon grew tired of "Hey Brother" and switched it to "Come With Me" by Kongos.

Damon sat for an hour thinking about the consequences of chasing some leads. On one hand, he could die or bleed out trying to get away. On the other hand, he could discover a mind-boggling secret that could improve the lives of others. He could find the people behind it and bring them to justice. They would get a court case and and get in jail. Case closed. Or he could take the law into his own hands.

He yanked the earbuds from his ears and turned off his iPad, leaving him to think in peace. Then he thought of something.

The one person Damon trusted more than his family was Lucas, a close friend who lives at Dunwoody as well and have known each other since preschool. He called him on their Ooma home phone to ask for advice.
