Chapter Eleven Part Two: Shipping Out

Damon woke up the next morning unusually early, around 4:00. Dear God, he thought. I had too much to eat last night; I'm in a food hangover.

He slowly got up out of bed, and looked back at the clock. He yawned and stretched, then got out of bed to use the restroom. Once out, Damon asked Nighthaven where he was, and, once again, the female head appeared in the middle of the room.

"We are orbiting your home planet of Earth, Mr. Cro. We are on a base called Blackout. The base is currently directly above western Australia, and it is 4:06 in the morning. Anything else I may help you with?" Damon answered "No." and got dressed. He walked over to check and see if anyone was up-and-at-em' yet. He saw a few soldiers roaming the halls, probably because it's a military and they've probably been up for a while. Damon wondered if each and every one of these people lived on Blackout.

He decided to see if his cousin was awake. He wanted to talk to her.

Damon walked out of his door and knocked on the door that said "N. WILLIS" and knocked on the door. "Hello?" he called, hoping she was already awake. Thankfully, she was.

"Hey, Damon," she greeted. "What's up?" Damon bit his lip, nervous. He knew that whatever happened over the next few days would be his fault, because he got nosy. This should never have happened. He shouldn't have done this.

"I just wanted to say that I'm sorry," he started. "I dragged you into this, and I might have gotten a few of us killed, and ... I just wish that I could go back and make sure that none of this ever happened."

"No. No, no, no, no, no, no. None of this is your fault. It's Tucker's. He's the one who put us in this situation. You can't blame yourself for this."

"Then where would you be, right now, if I hadn't recruited you?"

There was silence between the cousins for a minute, Damon feeling at fault and Noelle trying to make Damon feel better. Damon had a point, though. He's the reason the team was formed. He's the reason Noelle was here in the first place. He's the reason that they were nearly killed yesterday. He decided to end the conversation there.

"Just ... know that whatever happens, just know that I'm sorry." At that, Damon walked away, glad that he could get that off his chest, but melancholy about why he had to apologize. His cousin frowned sadly as he walked away. Damon entered his room and continued to ask Nighthaven about T.H.O.R.N.E while the rest of the team explored Blackout.
