The Court of Adali: Burned Alive
The picture above is as close as I could get to Adali in this chapter in Gacha Club. Just imagine that the crown is swirling with images and words.
Queen Adali Creativity mumbled to herself in her cushiony throne, one leg thrown over the arm and the other bent under her.
Her puffy black dress, that had a distinctive rainbow sheen covering it in the soft glow of the candles, covered all of the latter leg and draped over the edge of the throne. It hung just above the hardwood floor.
Suddenly, one of the doors on the side of the large room burst open, banging against the wall.
In ran a clearly disheveled teenager with almost non-existent black hair and a green flannel, and jeans that were ripped at the knees from years of use, not a manufacturer.
She stormed up to the throne, which was not elevated as some might expect, a golden fire burning in her bright black eyes.
Adali had adjusted into a more appropriate posturing now and didn't look even slightly disturbed.
She had come to expect things like this.
"You fucking burned me alive!" The girl screamed.
Adali just blinked, thinking for a second. Ah, this was Jade Thomas, a minor character in Adali's world of Grim Reapers and Cupid's that barely walk the Earth. "I'm really sorry about that. But you neede-"
"Needed what?! To be cremated early like a fucking witch in the 1800's!"
"Amos needed to come get you. Plus, you-" Being cut off a second time in this less-than-productive conversation was doing nothing for Adali's mood, and they suppressed a scowl as the older girl continued.
"And oh, Amos! They were staring at me when they thought I wasn't looking! What the hell is wrong with them?!"
"A lot. But they're really just a useless gay that thought you were pretty. What's so wrong with that?"
"I-I.... None of that changes the fact that you had me burned alive!"
"You died of smoke inhalation. At the time of death, only your hair and some of your clothes had been burned. So, no. I didn't."
"You still trapped me in a burning building! What the hell!"
"I did do that. But you needed to be murdered and trust me, I could have found much worse ways to do it. So run along back to Maroesol and find your brother before I change my mind."
"You're seven years younger then me! What could you possibly do now?" Contradicting her confident claims, a tremor shook Jade's voice and she was considerably more pale than she had been just a few minutes ago.
A fire appeared in an empty circle behind the throne, and it flickered with every color of the rainbow; matching the swirling colors in her pupil-less eyes. "Do you want to find out?"
Jade seems rooted to the spot, horror in every line of her face. With just a twist of Adali's head, she snapped out of her trance and shook her head violently. Jade spun and ran across part of the room, only slowing down when she began to regain her senses.
With only a couple quick glance over her shoulder, they had finished speed walking between the couches and were at the open door. They walked through with only a moments hesitation, and an unseen force slammed it behind her.
Ameno sighed and slumped in her chair, the fire disappearing behind her and her eyes returning to their regular blue.
A curtain rustled behind her and soon Confidence was standing beside her, one hand resting casually on the knife handle at her hip. "Bad day?"
"Kind of." Came the tired response.
"Well why dint you tell me about it over a cup of hot cocoa? I hear there's supposed to be drama at the Starbucks down the road. Something about a proposal." She said, her lilting voice turning singsongy at the end.
Ameno looked up at her and smiled. "Of course!" She stood up and a rainbow swirl surrounded her before fading o reveal a much more casual tank top and tennis shoes, long blond hair messily twisted up with a pencil.
"Let's go."
