Example:

Today, I went outside.  I looked up at the blue sky.  The teacher told me the sky is blue.  I told her that she was wrong.  It's really black.  She told me to tell her why I thought that.  Well, the atmosphere distorts the light from the sun, and since the main colors of light are red, green, and blue, it has to be one of those.  The blue actually has a higher wavelength than the red or green, so it blocks them out.  The sunset looks red because the blue light has been scattered.  Night time is the only time we see the true color of the sky.
