Ch 59: Supporting Figures
Katelyn's POV:
"W-what?" I was stunned. This was an amazing opportunity, and I love Jeffory and Abby to death...
"Come on, Katelyn. Think of the opportunities. Think about the environment Abby could grow up in. Come on. What'dya say?"
Thoughts clouded my mind. I looked to my side, contemplating my answer. I took a deep breath and turned around.
"No." I said, choking back tears. I couldn't part with my friends. "I'm not going."
Jeffory looked surprised. "I respect that. I understand how it feels to be taken from a familiar place. Abby has been wanting to go back to O'khasis for a while now." He nodded. "Is that your final decision?"
"Y-yes." A tear rolled down my cheek, but I wiped it away. Jeffory was leaving.
"I know it's going to be hard -for you and me both- but this has to be done." Jeffory wiped another tear off of my cheek.
I nodded my head while biting my lip. "Goodbye, Jeffory." I wistfully looked at him.
He stroked my face and tucked a strand of loose hair behind my ear. "Katelyn, I'm not leaving until tomorrow morning." He tried reassuring me.
"No, Jeffory. That's not what I meant. We can't be together anymore. We need to see other people. There is no way we will ever be able to make this work." I started sobbing into Jeffory's shoulder as he rubbed my back.
Second Person:
Early the next morning, Garroth patted Travis's back as he pushed him towards the front door. "Come on. Do it now, while you know Katelyn's sleeping."
Travis tried using his feet as brakes, stopping his body in front of the open door. "I can't do it. I'm not fit to work."
Garroth raised his eyebrows. "What was that?"
Travis jumped. "I mean, I'm very well fit. Wanna feel my abs?"
Garroth shook his head in disappointment. "Just go get some water. When Katelyn goes to do her chore, tell her you already did it, then make casual conversation with her. Off you go now." Garroth gave Travis one last shove before closing the door behind him and locking it.
Travis quickly turned around, jiggling the doorknob. When he discovered it was locked, he slumped his shoulders and set off for the mess hall.
You looked around. "Hey Garroth, wanna come watch Travis?" You motioned for him to join you by the window.
Garroth quickly jumped by your side, gazing out the window. "They grow up so fast." He said, sighing.
You pushed your face up a little closer to the glass. "Don't say things too soon. He hasn't done anything just yet."
From your view, Travis looked as small as an ant before he disappeared.
"I have faith in our child." Garroth said after he noticed Travis wasn't in his sight line anymore. "He'll do it."
You stepped away from the window and Garroth followed. "It is his love life. We've done as much as we can. Our job here is done." You agreed.
"I really hope this works out. That's my OTP on the line." Garroth mumbled.
You laughed. "Believe me, mine too." You paused. "Garroth, do you need anything to drink? I've got some home made hot chocolate in the kitchen."
"That'd actually be nice. I didn't realize that I was thirsty." Garroth replied as you were already making your way towards the kitchen.
You grabbed a two mugs out of a cabinet, then filled them with the leftover hot chocolate from a bowl. When you returned to the living room, you handed one of the mugs to Garroth.
"Thanks." Garroth said, raising the cup to his lips.
"No problem. We need to drink it before it goes bad." You said, taking a drink out of your cup. (If You Don't Like Hot Chocolate, Replace The Drink With Something Else.)
***
When you saw Travis coming towards your house, you set your mug down on the coffee table and opened the door.
"Travis!" You squealed. "How'd it go?"
Travis just shrugged. You felt your smile turn into a frown. "Aw, Travis, what is it?" You asked as you let Travis in through the door.
You turned around and called to Garroth. "Come on! Can't you see our poor child is in distress? Make room for him and get the tissue box!"
Garroth quickly moved over and let Travis sit next to him on the couch. Garroth leaned over and set his drink down.
You ran towards the kitchen and pulled out a cup for Travis.
Travis accepted his Hot Chocolate gratefully. You sat down on Travis's other side, leaving him in the middle of you and Garroth. "Okay Travis, tell us what's wrong." You said softly in a motherly way.
Travis fiddled with his shirt. "Well, I did it. I got the water and brought it to the mess hall, but I never saw Katelyn."
"You poor thing!" You had some weird Maternal instinct and gave Travis a hug.
Garroth looked Travis in the eyes. "Now son, you can always try again later. You don't want Katelyn to end up doing the job again."
Travis looked at Garroth sadly. "But I wanted to do it now. I guess I'm just disappointed."
Garroth smiled. "Hi, Disappointed. I'm Dad." Garroth looked like the happiest man alive, pumping his fist because Travis walked into his Dad Joke.
Travis groaned. "Since when did you guys become my parents?"
You gasped, then Garroth stood his ground. "You can't just pretend like you don't know us anymore. You're just going through a moody teenager phase." Garroth said seriously.
"I'm an adult!" Travis put his hands up, as if to say 'I'm out.'
"Go to your room!"
