Ch 13: Pieces of the Puzzle
"I actually am on to something? -I mean- 'Yeah! I am on to something!" Garroth regained his confidence.
You want to figure this out. You want to have peace at mind.
"We know that Zane was somehow involved in this, right? We also know that Garroth doesn't remember anything from the second half of the tour, right Garroth?" You stared at him waiting for him to confirm what you had just said.
He nodded his head in agreement.
"When I went back the second time, I saw a new girl where Garroth was before. Garroth was completely gone, I couldn't see him there at all. I was confused until the woman mentioned something about a body. When they disappeared I found the lever that led me to be trapped in that small chamber with Garroth."
"Is that why you thought I was dead?"
"It was. I didn't know what to do, emotions were flooding out of me. When Garroth woke up I was relieved. He started to try and explain things to me, but then Zane came. About half way through our escape plan, the woman vanished. Right Garroth?"
"Yeah, she did. You mentioned something about them disappearing before you found me. Was it the same way both times?"
"Yeah it was. This led me to believe that they had magicks on their side."
"Katelyn! Emmalyn! We need to ask you something!" Aphmau shouted over to them. They immediately stopped what they were doing and ran over to Aphmau.
"What is it Lord Aphmau?" Emmalyn asked.
"Emmalyn, you're an intelligent girl. Katelyn, you used to be a member of the Jury Of Nine, you know how Zane thinks." Aphmau confirmed with them.
"Correct. So what was it that you wanted to ask us?" Katelyn questioned.
"____?" Aphmau looked at you. "You know all of the facts, why don't you ask the question?"
You glanced at Katelyn and Emmalyn.
"What do you guys think happened if Zane was involved, magicks were involved, and Garroth can't remember anything after he went into the forest yesterday - except for waking up in the chamber."
Katelyn paused.
"I know that Zane does have a lot of magicks users in O'khasis. And he was always prepared for whatever he got himself into, well, most of the time he was..." She went on. "That means he was probably stacked with potions." Katelyn was pained to be reminded that she used to work for Zane. "Hey Garroth, do remember when you were knocked out?"
"I don't remember what I was knocked out with, but I know it wasn't a potion."
"So you do remember being knocked out? I think that maybe you only have 'memory loss' because you were never actually where ____ says you were." Katelyn finished.
You didn't understand what she meant, but Emmalyn must of because she added:
"If Zane had potions and magicks on his side, he could have easily manipulated his form. I'm not much of an expert on this topic, but lately I've been reading about magicks users."
Katelyn looked over at Emmalyn, perplexed.
"Are you saying that Zane took Garroth's form?" Katelyn looked like she had just had a mental breakthrough. After she had said that statement, it had clarified it all for you, as much as it had for Katelyn.
"That might be how Zane knew my name, and I had never seen him before."
"Zane normally changes other people's forms so that they can do his bidding, but occasionally he does change his own form." Katelyn stated.
"____, didn't you say there was a new woman in place of Garroth?" Aphmau asked.
"If so, then that might mean that the woman she had seen was using potions or magicks to look and sound like Garroth." Emmalyn sat down on a log.
"Don't you need something about the person or animal to make a potion that can transform you into them?" Emmalyn was stuck again.
"Zane is Garroth's brother, he could easily have had something of his." Aphmau didn't want to keep reminding everyone of that, but the appropriate time had come.
Garroth still sat in silence, but he looked a worried after she had mentioned Zane as his brother.
"How could it have been his plan all along to pretend to be Garroth?" Katelyn asked.
"I'm not sure how..." Emmalyn was intrigued by the situation and she rested her chin on her fist, thinking. "Maybe when whoever knocked him out took something with his DNA on it."
"If they had Garroth than he could have easily gotten something like that. But they'd have had to make a potion. He'd need a magicks user to make that potion." Katelyn pointed out.
"Than maybe that woman ____ saw was a magicks user. But what could they have been planning to do with Garroth?" Emmalyn asked as she pushed her glasses up onto her nose.
"Actually, I don't think they were planning on doing anything with him. The woman asked what to do with his body, so that would mean they didn't have a plan." You answered.
"Maybe they had already done what they wanted to do to him, or took something from him that they wanted, and they didn't need his body anymore." Katelyn stated.
Aphmau craned her neck and opened her mouth. "Could it have been...?"
