62: Conflicts of the Heart

<Flashback>

Garroth sat in the grass, his arms like stilts behind him, holding his torso up, his legs casually straight out in front of him. You were in a similar position, except your legs were crossed.

"I wonder what Azura is thinking right now..." Garroth wondered, changing the subject of your past conversation.

You felt like screaming, but you tried to act nonchalant. Maybe drop a few hints. "Don't you wonder what I'm thinking about?" You asked.

Garroth was clueless. "No." Garroth said bluntly. "When do you think is a good time to visit Bright Port and spar with Azura?"

"Never." You mumbled.

"Maybe we could train a few new guards there too." Garroth said, going into detail.

"... Or maybe not." You said clearly.

"I wish I had someone to fight with." Garroth said, running his fingers through the grass on the ground.

<End Of Flashback>

You were on top of a hill, playing with the grass. The same hill Garroth had talked about Azura on. Since then, you had made it your mission to stay away from him at all costs. He could talk about another girl to somebody else.

Not only did that conversation keep recurring in your mind, others decided to replay through your head also. Some gave you the feeling of daggers in your chest, the harsh words getting to your head.

"____?" You heard Garroth's hopeful voice, but didn't turn around to face him.

You didn't answer either. You couldn't process how he could sound so casual. Had he not even realized you were ignoring him?

Garroth walked in front of you. "Hey." He greeted, as if he wasn't talking to you for the first time in days.

You thought of another scenario in your head. Your face clouded with anger, and Garroth noticed. "What has been so wrong with you lately?" He spat out coldly.

You got off of the ground and started walking away, but got frustrated when Garroth still followed. You turned around and looked at him. "Leave me alone."

Garroth grabbed your arm. "No, I won't. What's wrong with you?" He slowed his words down to emphasize his anger, but there was a small trace of concern in his tone still.

You looked him in the eye. "I'll tell you again. Leave. Me. Alone." You yanked your arm out of Garroth's grasp and stomped further away. Garroth followed again.

Garroth clenched his fists. "Just tell me what made you so mad! Maybe then I'll be able to leave you alone! You know how selfish it is that you're treating me this way? It's not just you who feels bad! I have feelings too. I have spent every day with you here! You can't just ignore me for a few days and expect me to still be fine!"

You folded your arms and stared ahead. "Then you should go 'hang' out with Azura."

Garroth argued back, his voice starting to get heated. "Why are you doing this? Why would you even bring up-" Garroth took a deep breath and lowered his voice, but he was still just as angry as before. "-now? What does she have to do with any of this?" Garroth's unknowing of the obvious made you want to rip your hair out and scream.

"SHE is ALL you have talked about since last week!" You were practically steaming.

"What? Does that mean anything to you?!" Garroth shot back.

"YES IT DOES! You saw her once and just would not SHUT UP about her!"

"Why should that bother you?" Garroth was getting frustrated.

You stepped closer to Garroth. "Oh, I don't know. Since Azura is so perfect, maybe you should just go tell her how much she means to you! She's so perfect at everything, right? You like that. That's why you like her and not me!"

You still had a scowl on your face when Garroth suddenly grabbed you. He smashed his lips into yours passionately. The tension on your face erased and you felt at ease, kissing his soft lips.

You placed your hands on his chest as you fluttered your eyelids closed, melting into the kiss. All anger was gone. Maybe this was how Garroth really felt.

You focused on Garroth, no longer caring about any of your surroundings. You felt Garroth's grip tighten, pulling you closer.

It had only been mere seconds but it felt like a lifetime after he pulled away. Your heart was fluttering and you couldn't think straight anymore. But could you ever?

Garroth was in no rush to back away, so he was still relatively close to you. There was no sign of his earlier anger; in fact, he was beaming.

He gave you a quirky half smile. "I do like you, ____."

You looked away and mumbled. "You're still a jerk, though. You could've told me sooner."

"Honestly? It's not that easy to." He laughed nervously.

"I know that feeling." You laughed to yourself.

"Is there something I'm missing here? Somebody I need to go beat up for stealing your heart?"

"Only yourself."

He blinked for a second, but bounced right back. "Is that what I'm supposed to do now?"

***

You walked back to your house in a daze.

This was all surreal.

On the outskirts of town, a head of blond hair flashed in front of your eyes, but ran away quicker than you were able to accurately identify them. From your memory though, it looked like the girl from Scaleswind.

If it was Azura, then you were going to check. No way was she getting any closer to Garroth.

You made your way towards her, but the figure sprinted forward in a mad dash. When you made it to the far corner of the plaza, she was no where in sight.

Was it all your imagination? You weren't exactly on feeling all that together- kind of like a pile of mush.

You gazed into the calm ocean, mostly confused, but tried to shake it off.

There's no reason for Azura to be here. She's not. Curiosity was just itching at you, though. But curiosity also killed the cat, so...

You were done standing alone looking like some kind of creep, gazing off into the ocean. You headed home and sat for a while, pondering.

You lay on your bed on your stomach, unreasonably giddy. It felt out of place to be without Garroth. Were you now some kind of clingy girlfri- wait... girlfriend?

No, it was just a kiss. Nothing's official. Yet.
