MERLIN OC
My OC for BBC's tv show Merlin (a few years ago, in my head I renamed it "Magic")
Name: Morien
Name Meaning: Old Welsh for "sea-born" or "born in the sea"
Druid/Magic Name: Anochys
Name Meaning: Derived from the Old Welsh word "anorchfygol", which means "invincible" (which mirrors Merlin's magic name "Emrys" meaning "immortal")
Gender: Female
Age: 17-18 at the start (seasons 1 - 3), 20 at the end (seasons 4 and 5)
Special Abilities: An Enchantress born with the gift of magic; Dragonlord
Description: Fair but suntanned skin with just-above-the-shoulder brown, slightly messy hair and grey eyes. Generous sprinkling of brown freckles on her cheeks. Usual attire is ankle-high leather boots, dark and practical-fitting pants, and a brown coat open over a light green shirt; this outfit and gear makes Morien appear rough-and-ready and tomboyish.
Hair vibes:
Love Interest/Crush: Morgana (gay panics for her so bad, good Lord don't even get me started on the first episode when Morgana's at the celebration)
Residence: Camelot, sharing a room with Merlin in the Court Physician's Chambers (currently); Ealdor (formerly)
Occupation: Morien is a stablehand for the kingdom's horses, and also works part-time delivering medicines for Gaius's patients (one of her regular deliveries is to Lady Morgana, for her sleeping draught). Her unofficial job seems to be getting Merlin out of trouble, however...
Destiny: To ensure Morgana does not turn evil. Merlin's destiny is to protect Arthur; Morien's is to protect Morgana.
Family: Gaius (father figure/basically her adoptive father), Hunith (mother-figure), Merlin (sibling-like relationship, basically her adoptive brother), Kilgharrah (connected by magic), all the horses she works with (seriously this woman cannot get enough of them please throw her to the stables forever)
Friends: Bracken (horse), Gwen (pretty much her only other regular friend besides Merlin and Gaius), Morgana (the two aren't very close due to their different roles and statuses, but Morgana finds herself intrigued with Gwen's quiet friend), Gwaine (another of the lads), Lancelot (ditto, good man), Arthur (reluctantly), Nimueh
Enemies: Nimueh (formerly), Uther (covertly; Morien wishes things were simpler, but she knows that Uther would have her and Merlin executed the second he finds out the truth), Morgause (stuff Morgause all Morien's homies hate Morgause)
Backstory: Set in an AU where Morien arrives in Camelot with Merlin, as the boy's mother sent him there and Morien decided to tag along due to her drive for adventure. Besides, apart from Hunith and Merlin, Morien doesn't have any family or friends – and she didn't want to stay in Ealdor all her life when she knows she was given her gifts for a reason.
Morien's parents were always semi-absent from her life, only teaching her how to cook and grow crop. They never cared for her as she was an accidental pregnancy. Their dislike for her grew when they found out she had magic, and finally they buggered off somewhere when she was thirteen, abandoning her. Hunith, the mother of the only boy Morien had made friends with (and who had met her previously and cared for her), took her in, giving her food, a home and a brother, all of which Morien is eternally thankful for.
Personality: Morien is always happy when she's exploring, on the back of a horse, reading, or doing things that should otherwise be impossible. Her drive for adventure and freedom means she could travel to the ends of the earth and still be content as long as she's discovering things. Morien adores fantasies, magical creatures and the clichés she reads in books; Hunith taught the girl how to read, and now she loves books. Morien loves a good riddle, but that quickly changes when she meets Kilgharrah, a creature seemingly incapable of speaking in anything but riddles. Morien isn't particularly easy to charm, but if a person knows the way to her heart, she can't help but to let them in.
Mount: After a few episodes, Morien is thrilled when she learns she will own her own horse. She connects with a 15h tall brown stallion with a brown mane and tail, and she names him Bracken. The two of them become the closest of friends.

SCENES
—
Merlin carefully placed the poultice underneath Tom's pillow and stepped back. As he and Morien whispered the second incantation, his blue and her grey irises light up gold.
The two sorcerers quietly whisked out with the shadows, ghosts in the night. They watched the result of their interference through the shutters of the blacksmith's window. They were careful not to disturb Gwen, who had fallen asleep watching over her sick father on his bed.
Tom gently awoke, confused but relieved. When he saw his daughter lying near him, a light smile broke on his face. He stroked Gwen's hair, and she stirred at the touch, looking around.
"Father?"
The disbelieving, almost pleading voice made the two sorcerers outside beam.
"This is what we can do," Morien whispered to her adoptive brother.
"This is what our magic should be used for," Merlin agreed. "And it's what we're going to keep using it for."
Satisfied with their work, two silently snuck back to the Court Physician's chambers and collapsed onto their beds, happy that they'd helped their friends.
—
"Leave that to me," Morgana replied, before turning and heading out the room.
Merlin swallowed, and Morien let out an absent-minded sigh.
"Come on, we have work to do!" Gaius prompted his adopted children.
—
Merlin, Morien, Arthur and Morgana entered the underground system, the two royals holding torches.
"She played him like a damn drum," Morien marvelled to Merlin, who smiled at her in response.
—
"Is there a cure?" Uther asked the mystery physician.
"See for yourself," Edwin ducked his head, and soon the small group were heading to Morgana's chambers.
"Morgana!" Uther exclaimed happily, and Morien felt a rush of relief when she saw the girl in question was alright.
The King leaned down to hug his ward, who was sitting up in her bed to recover. "I thought... I really thought..."
Morgana smirked, returning the hug. "Please, you wouldn't get rid of me that easily."
Morien offered the woman a smile from the door, which Morgana returned somewhat surprisedly, but wholeheartedly welcomed all the same.
"What did Edwin give you?" Gaius asked the princess.
"I have no idea," Morgana admitted, stretching her arms up. "But thank God he did."
Morien looked away at the breathy remark, trying to get a hold of herself.
—
Morien put her arm around the Druid boy, trying not to scream at the pent-up stress inside of her.
Outside, the King of Camelot was testifying his sentence and law over Mordred's father.
"I can't watch this anymore," Morgana declared hopelessly to Merlin, and crossed from the window to the other side of the room to comfort Mordred by crouching down and hugging him into her side.
Morien felt her skin begin to warm up at the close proximity between her and the king's ward.
She saw Merlin suddenly stiffen from the window and braced herself.
The sound of steel ripped through the air from outside, ringing throughout the kingdom.
NO!
A sharp scream slashed through Morien's mind, and no doubt Merlin's too, as Morgana's mirror shattered at the Druid boy's anger.
—
The Great Dragon roared from a crag in the side of the rocks.
Both sorcerers jumped. "Do you have to do that? You scared the life out of us!" Merlin complained.
Kilgharrah ignored the young boy's remark and landed on his ledge, the light from Merlin's torch looking dim compared to the dragon's golden eyes.
"Young warlock, young enchantress. No doubt you're here for the Druid boy."
The two nodded. "Yes. Is there anything we can do to help?" Merlin asked.
"You mustn't do anything," Kilgharrah said simply. "The boy is dangerous."
"What?" Morien replied. "You're not serious. Morgana loves that boy, we have to help him!"
"He has magic, he's exactly like us!" Merlin protested a second later.
"It does not matter if the king's ward cares for him! You and the boy are as opposites as day and night!" The dragon snapped, narrowing his eyes.
—
"She really cares about him... I haven't seen her like this with anyone," Gwen explained, clearly distressed as she paced back and forth.
Morien and Merlin shared a worried look.
Gwen bit her nails, shaking her head furiously at the thought of anything happening to her friend.
—
"I promised I'd keep him safe," Morgana whispered, her eyes blurry.
Merlin eyed Morien hopelessly, then shook his head, looking down at the chambers' floor. "He's in jail now. There's nothing more we can do."
Morgana raised her head, looking at Merlin. Her gaze hardened, and she strode across the room to the two of them. "I will not let him die!"
"You're not thinking straight," Morien replied kindly, placing her hand on the woman's arm.
Morgana turned her glare from Merlin to Morien. Her eyes changed from determined to desperate. "Please. Can I count on your help?"
Morien couldn't help herself; she melted at the girl's pleading state. "Of course," she answered, letting go.
Merlin nodded.
"Thank you," Morgana sighed, relieved.
—
"I can't believe you talked me into this!" Gwen huffed at Merlin, her horse slightly jostling beneath her.
"Why is Morien with us?" Arthur asked, looking behind him at the girl in question.
Morien shrugged, sitting up straighter in her saddle. "Merlin and I are a package deal, everyone knows that. I go wherever he goes. You know, to make sure he doesn't kill himself."
Arthur laughed. "Don't be stupid, Morien. He works for me."
Morien rolled her eyes. "Yeah that's my point," she whispered, forcing Gwen to hide a giggle.
—
"You must do... nothing."
Merlin and Morien were so taken aback that they said nothing for a few seconds, rendered speechless.
"Nothing?" Merlin echoed.
Kilgharrah narrowed his eyes. "Arthur's reign cannot begin unless Uther's has passed."
Morien shook her head. "No. What if killing Uther becomes a key part in Morgana's descent into evil? We can't let her do this!"
The dragon roared. "Do not think you know better than I, young enchantress. I have seen things you could never dream of!"
Merlin shook his head too, unable to accept that simply doing nothing was the answer. "I agree with Morien. This isn't right!"
Kilgharrah flapped his wings, ascending from his rock. "You must take charge of your destiny, Merlin! Morien, free us all!"
And he was gone, leaving the two kids staring after him.
