Faction Lore #5 - Cult of the Dark Elements (Mogh Sil)

Known (Researchable In-Book)

Song of the Moon and Sign of the Night

On astrological occasions, yet still known and expected to happen, a Song of the Moon will be born. This happens when a moonstone dragon has an egg with a song dragon. This rare dragonet is said to have one soul--with different personalities and even associations--that have been past down since the first moonrise. Unless there is the very, very rare chance that the midnight moment of the current Song of the Moon's death should align with the hatching of a female dragonet out of the Cult with those requirements, and unless that dragonet's parents don't know about the Song of the Moon spirit, that dragonet is named Song of the Moon.
When a Song of the Moon dragonet is born, until she is old enough to understand, that is her name and she stays strictly under watch and protection so none know what she truly is. When the dragonet is of age, she gives herself a name she can use in her quest outside of the Cult, for she is to learn about the world and then lead the Cult on how best to survive. The current Song of the Moon is unknown, since it is a heavily kept secret.
Since the Song of the Moon is always female, she has a male counterpart, named Sign of the Night. These dragons are from a night dragon, male and female. Song of the Moons die at midnight and are born at midnight, so Sign of the Nights are born and die at moonrise. Even with the ability to make a new Sign of the Night dragonet without the other two races, the trio are bound together like a braid. The Sign of the Night and the Song of the Moon each meet two of the opposite soul's lives, since they are hatched and die halfway through the other's life cycle. Because of this reason, most Signs or Songs prefer not to have their ages known, though some do.
The reason that Songs or Signs see the opposite soul twice in each lifetime without question is because one is their mentor, and the other is their apprentice. This creates either a parent-child bond or a brother-sister bond. Generally, the two are the same, save race and gender, and they create a balance this way. This way, also, they are the ties of the three races that are typically within the Cult.
