"We'll make friendship bracelets, and have sleepovers...wait friend! Come back!"

Triggers: death, fire, sickness, I do mention some accidental murder and some child snatching

Name: Essie

Age: Technically she has no age, but she's about 10 or 12.

World: More or less the same as the one we live in, but magic exists.

Sexuality/Relationships: again, a child. None of that

Personality:
Inquisitive and childish, Essie wants nothing more than to have a best friend through thick and thin. When she sees light, she'll become hyper fixated and attempt to reach it. For no particular reason, Essie will often become tired and sleep through certain situations, although she's become more of a light sleeper. She tends to be extremely clingy, and will curl into anyone who has put themselves in her reach. Her grip is strong but not to the point of discomfort, and her wings will wrap around you as well. Basically; she ain't letting go anytime soon.

Appearance:
A cute lil green bob for her hair, Essie's skin is pale white and one of her antennas has broken, appearing to have broken in half. Her nose is a cute little button, and her mouth is completely dark grey, including her tongue, which is unnaturally long. Her wings follow her two arms, so the upper wing is attached to the arm, and she's got surprisingly good upper-body strength, able to just use her arms to crawl on walls and ceilings. The bottom half of her wings have almost neon colored "eyes" that act as actual eyes and can see in the dark. She wears a shirt that has a star pattern on it, and a sheer scarf that trails down her back. The ends of the scarf act as feelers in place of her antenna, which are mostly useless at this point.
(Note: yes the appearance has been updated. I'll post art of her new official look when I've got some time)

Backstory:
Essie was first created by a little boy named Otto. Otto was a happy little boy, except for one thing. Because he was constantly sick and at risk of getting sick, he couldn't maintain friendships with kids his age. So he came up with Essie, a moth-like human child who was alone like he was. He would draw her endlessly, and acted as if she was truly real; hoarding the lamps in his room "because essie liked them" and sneaking more cookies for her.
Eventually, however, when Otto became so sick they had to quarantine him in the hospital, his father, a well-renowned magician, decided to make his son's dearest friend come to life. It was going to be a wonderful surprise...except Otto had succumbed to his illness before the two could ever meet for real.
Essie was devastated with this; this boy was her entire world and all she wanted to be with. The man decided that he would raise her and keep her safe so that she could live for his son.
Over the years they both became quite adept at magic, and worked in a traveling circus where nobody asked too many questions.
But the luck took a steep turn for the worst when some teenage hoodlums threw bottles of alcohol into the big top and set the place ablaze.
Essie managed to survive the fire, but her father had not. Due to some wacky magic happenings, Essie became unable to leave the grounds of the circus, even after the others moved on. She became more and more obsessed with the idea of having friends, and going on adventures together, so if a child wanders too close to her territory, she'll likely snatch it away so that they can play together forever. Despite technically being more mature, she's regressed so her mental state is immature and so she sometimes doesn't understand that a child needs more than bad carnival food to survive. So despite her good intentions...there are a lot of skeletons around the old grounds. Just another reason why kids are warned to never, ever wander alone. As time passed, her colorful palette, reminiscent of the Lunar Moth, began to fade, and she used a spell to make a scarf act as feelers for her when her antenna broke.

Headcanons/fun stuff:
- Essie is one of three cartoonish imaginary friends who come to life, another one is a dragonfly with one arm lower on his body and an upside down head. He's known as the game master and if you stray into the game section he'll challenge you to the ultimate carnival game challenge.

- The third is a bumblebee inspired character with two heads. The facial features are split between each head, so they both have one half of a ponytail, one eye, half a mouth, etc., and they keep things more or less in working order.

- Essie is more experienced in magic than some of my other characters; she enchanted her scarf to do what it does. But she isn't very keen on using it other than a magic show. Sees it as more of a way to entertain others than to protect or attack.

- When she sleeps, she curls her wings around her body. They're stronger than they look, so with them as a blanket she feels safer than just a blanket. It's also more comfortable and eliminates the risk of sleeping on a wing funny and waking up with one at a funny angle.
