It'll take a while for me to get through all of them, but for now I'll share the basics.

Official name: Genii (translates into 'Guardian Spirits' from Latin).

Lifespan: Undetermined. Genii have rarely been recorded in history, coming in and out as they respond to a need.

Recorded features: Genii are only identifiable when they are in human form. They have mostly human features but do have various traits corresponding to their insect form.

Known Genii: Butterfly (see files on Madame Butterfly), ladybug, scorpion, etc. there are more siblings, but not enough information to confirm their existence.

History: It's unclear when the Genii first emerged; some say they have been here since the creation of the world, and others believe they have been here since humans discovered magic. Whatever the case may be, their existence was not confirmed until humans began to practice magic.

When the world was created, 12 beings emerged from the leftover material. 12 beings-split evenly with 6 female-like beings and 6 male-like beings-who proceeded to complete creation by breathing life into flora and fauna. As time passed, these beings, later called Genii, eventually faded into the creatures they made. Listed below is a list of all the Genii known to history thus far.

1: Leilatha Aerora, among the youngest. Has the most recorded visits among humans as a guardian of children. She is the creator of butterflies.
2: Carnir Aerora, the eldest sibling. He is the creator of scorpions and is called upon when violence is needed to provide defense.
3: Eki Aerora, creator of ladybugs, summoned to provide comfort to elderly. Eldest sister.
4-12: Too little recorded of them to make any identifiable nothings.

The Creation:
It is common knowledge among scholars that the Genii were responsible for all life on earth.

Each of them were primarily responsible for a single insect, while larger creatures were created in a team effort. Sometimes a younger sibling would decide to make a creature that would look nice, and the elder siblings would have to make it look nice and survivable. As a result, animals that look nice are typically incredibly dangerous and animals that may not look nice are sort of nice. The following is a full list of the Genii, along with the insects they created. It's said that those who wish to invoke a particular genii take great care to maintain a habitat for the specific insect. It is also noted who or what the particular genii protects.

Scorpion, those who constantly defend the weak.
Ladybug, those who are elderly and alone
Honey Bee, those who are mothers, mothers-to-be, or midwives
Praying Mantis, those wanting out of a toxic relationship.
Spider, those who seek knowledge.
Moth, those who's nights are spent in terror 
Butterfly, those children who need a protector and a place to go.
Dragonfly, those who are restless in their pursuits.
Junebug, those who feel like outsiders.
Hornet, those whose anger causes large problems in their life
Firefly, those who need guidance to get back on track.
Grasshopper, those who work to preserve wildlife.

Where did their names come from?

As of now, it is unsure where or how the Genii received their names. It is believed that the names were simply given to them as they were created, and it has been a part of them since their creation.

Another theory is that they choose names after creating humanity, so that they fit in among humans better.

While in ancient times the Cricket and the Bumblebee had months, they have been forgotten, and the extra days distributed among the remaining Genii.

   In the past, few knew of the power these beings had. Each one has a specific rune that allows them to be summoned, and the knowledge of these runes has been passed down since the earliest known days of humanity. Although sightings of Genii are rare, humanity still believed. As a result, churches and monasteries popped up across the world, dedicated to a specific Genii being. The church worships all of them simultaneously, dedicating each month to a sibling's honor.

The first month of the year is in Carnir's honor and the final month is in Anenas' honor.

Babies born in a specific month are given robes and a blanket with the symbol of their month's Genii embroidered on the edges. It's considered to signify the protection of the Genii, and those who fall away from the church often have these garments destroyed.

When available, the Genii spend time establishing a following of people who believe in their cause. Because of this, monks in monasteries established in ancient times dedicate their lives to a specific genii.

However, as time passed and history was made, two Genii were forgotten about. The followers of the cricket and of the bumblebee faded into obscurity, their protective fabrics destroyed as their monasteries were burned.

  Since this has happened, the two have been banished to the Divine Plain, where all the Genii call home.
