thirteen

It didn't take much for Theseus to convince Niya to join him on his bed. He scooted over and let her lay next to him. It would have looked and felt romantic if he wasn't a widower and if they were looking at the stars instead of his ceiling.

He didn't say anything, but he didn't really need to. She understood why he didn't want to talk. He would open up to her when he was ready. It could take months or even years, but she would always be there for him. She had all ready survived a near twenty-year crush on him, which had been very one-sided.

Niya was barely surviving when she thought about her crush on Theseus. She would grow old and still be single. By that time, Theseus would have moved on and found someone else. She would be watching his new wife and him through a window as they laughed together. Thinking about her future in such a negative sense always hurt her, but there wasn't much good to think about.

She had lost her family - mother, father, and twin sister - as well as her childhood. She remembered the important fragments of her childhood. She remembered one person especially, and it wasn't her mother, father, or twin sister.

She remembered her uncle, but she knew he wasn't actually related to her because her parents always called him "master." He doted on her sister the most and she loved it. She thought of him as a hero, but Niya knew better. Her sister was always stupid, even if she was the older one.

Niya knew that man was evil since the moment he stepped foot into their lives. She was never nice to him, no matter how many times her parents scolded or punished her to be nicer. She always gave him the stink eye and he would simply smirk at her before turning away to dote on her sister.

Niya was always the smart one. She observed things no one else could. Wherever she looked, she was always calculating things in her mind. She could see symbols, spells, and charms in her eyes. She knew what to do in most situations. She had that gift since she was young. It was why she was so valuable to the Ministry, but because the rest of her family were fanatics of Grindelwald, Niya was constantly on the move.

But when she was seven, her mother took her and her sister away from their father. But instead of Margaret taking care of both of them, she trashed Niya away with Ariel, claiming that she would be safer - but she took Kayla with her. Niya never saw the two of them ever again. The only thing she had to remember them was a family locket with their photo inside.

"What are you thinking of?" Theseus asked.

"Nothing," she replied.
