Destiny sits at one of the lazy chair beside the swimming pool at the rooftop of the building, accompanied by the silent night and the dim light hanging above her. It's almost romantic. It's serene. Everything above brings her calmness that she has longed to have. She stares into the water, the steady water since no one is up for swimming under the night sky, the light reflected from the water cascading her face. Her eyes seem as if they are glittering like the stars. While her mind is burried with her own thoughts, she plays with her fingers.
She is thinking. She is thinking about herself. She is thinking about her parents. She is thinking about people around her. She is thinking about her best friend Jack. Oh, how she wished she has Jack's life! Jack is not as rich as Destiny, but he has a life that she desires: a life of freedom. Freedom to do anything he wants without spotlight into his face. Everybody seems to like Jack by the way he told her about his slam-dunk story. It is correct that Jack is good at basketball and he is the reason why she plays basketball in the first place. She loved to stay back and watched Jack plays, until the Jack tells her that the coach is looking for a female team and that she should try it out. Jack was the one who shows all the skills and explains basketball rules.
However, why does it sound wrong to Tony?
Destiny is too caught into the moment that she didn't notice someone is there at the rooftop with her, approaching her, until the person clears his own throat that wakes Destiny up from her stance. Destiny looks up at the person and frowns. Do I know you? Destiny thought of asking, but decided that it's too rude to ask that. Instead, she says, 'Hey. Sorry I didn't feel you here.'
The person gives Destiny a genuine smile, one that tells Destiny he understands. 'Here by yourself?' He takes a seat at the lazy chair next to Destiny.
'I was,' Destiny answers. 'Until you came.'
The person laughs at Destiny's remark. 'I didn't mean to intrude, I'm sorry. I thought you needed a company.'
Destiny raises her eyebrows at him, and he raises his thick eyebrows at Destiny back. Only then she realises that he is handsome. The way his eyebrows is perfectly shaped, and perfectly match his beautiful big eyes. Destiny holds herself from blushing at the way the end of his lips upturn into a small glee smile. 'Do I look like I need a company?'
The person shrugs. 'Maybe not,' he answers honestly, but he didn't look ashamed that he might be wrong. 'But I can see that you're alone – and I'm alone – and you look like you need someone to talk to.'
'Why can't you just admit that you needed someone?' Destiny gives a knowing smile.
The person chuckles. He raises his hands, defeated. 'Okay. You win, but this time only.'
Destiny can't help but laughs with him. Somehow, Destiny likes the way he's being friendly but not in a creepy way unlike many other people who'd done to her. He seems like he's been there like Destiny.
Rolling her eyes, Destiny answers, 'Whatever.'
The person offers his hand, out of the blue. 'I'm Will.'
'Destiny.'
They shake hands for a few seconds before letting go.
'So, what're you doing here by yourself? Aren't someone like you is supposed to be out with a date or some– Wait, before you answer, I'd just want to know: are you here because of the dinner party thingy? At the ballroom Level 10?'
Destiny chuckles again. 'Yes, I'm that, but I don't like being there so I'm here where I'd be feeling good.'
'I know right? This place up here is so peaceful.'
'It is before you came with the talk and about,' Destiny teases.
Will raises one of his eyebrows at Destiny. 'Seriously? Still mad at me because o' that?'
'No, I'm just joking. I'm fine, don't worry.' Destiny smiles at Will. 'So, are you because of the same reason as I am?'
Will nods his head slowly. 'Yeah. Everybody is self-bloating about themselves, talking about how good their business is, how one should partnered up to make more money. My . . . I came here just to have fun, but my father kept pushing me to reconcil with brainless Josh.'
'What did "brainless Josh" do to you?'
'Apart from taking my trophy at the circuit last season?' Will looks at Destiny into her eyes, then shakes his head. 'You don't want to know.'
Destiny nods her head. 'Do you have any plans what to do after this?'
Will raises his eyebrows at Destiny. Yep, the eyebrows game is strong between them. 'Flirt with you?'
Destiny throws her head back, laughing loudly until her head hurts and her face turns hot. It takes times for Destiny to regains her smart brain back and replies good stuff to Will. And then, they begin talking about themselves, not once mentioning about the dinner party that is still running Destiny presumes since neither of her parents nor John called or came to collect her. They begins to warm up between themselves, laughing at silly jokes, being ashamed for wanting to laugh at the silly jokes. Destiny doesn't know who Will is, but she is determined to get to know him.
Mental-noting herself to look up about Will and his family once she's home, she observes him at the same time. She pays attention to what Will is mostly talking about, like his passion on being a racer. He has started young. First, it was just a hobby between him and his father playing go-cart. Then, he decided to try it out for real racing. Destiny feels happy to hear how Will's father supports him from the start – attends his races, cheering for him at the background, or watching over him at the grand stand among the other VVIPS – because apparently, his father is an owner of a brand of a car. Apart from telling Will to reconcil with his all-time nemesis, his father is good.
Will asks about Destiny's doing in school, in which Destiny happily tells him everything about it especially about basketball.
'You seem small to play basketball,' Will comments, looking at Destiny from top to bottom.
She glares at Will. 'Are you trying to tell me that I'm not capable?'
Will's eyes widened. 'What?! No! No! It's not that!' He quickly explains. 'It's just, most of the basketball players I've met are tall, like . . . taller than me, like . . . you have to crane your neck looking at them?'
Destiny softly chuckles at Will while shaking her head. 'I know what you mean, but . . . I don't know. I love playing basketball. That moment everytime your team scores is . . . it feels amazing.'
'Yeah, I get you. But, hey, why don't you teach me basketball some time? Having a friendly match would also be awesome.'
Destiny smiles although she doesn't know why thinking that meeting Will again after tonight is happening. 'We'll see. If you're not too caught up your racing.'
'Deal.' They shake hands to conceal the deal.
And they continue to talk again, this time about their favourite food, their favourite song and music, their favourite actors and actresses, their favourite atheletes, their favourite places to go. Destiny finds it always fun everytime she has to talk about the places because she loves traveling. It's tiring but she loves it. She loves the fact she is doing something she and her family loves to do. She loves the fact that she's flying in the air, over the clouds, gets to dream. She misses it once she reaches her home.
The best part is, Will is having the same opinion as Destiny. Will also loves traveling, but instead of traveling with family, Will mostly travels with his crews. While Destiny eats at the fancy restaurant with her family, Will eats with manager and coach and his crew members. But he doesn't mind none of it because he loves doing that.
In between their heated conversation and their laughs, someone suddenly calls Destiny. His deep, raspy voice causes Destiny to turn with a single call.
Oh, it's John.
At this moment, Destiny can't help but wishing that she hadn't brought John as her date. She wished she came here alone with only Tony and Pepper. Things wouldn't get awkward if Tony or Pepper came to collect her, unlike with John. John is friendly and flirty and easy-going, but there are times when he's cold and rigid, like he doesn't have an emotion at all.
Seeing Will's confusion, Destiny quickly says, 'That's my bodyguard. I've got to go.' She smiles apologetically while grabbing her purse and standing up.
Will frowns. 'Will I see you again?'
'How do I know when to meet you?'
Will smiles. 'You know where to find me.'
Destiny smiles, knowing that he knows he's well-known and that Destiny will know that too.
