Snowdin (Part 2)

The human walked past several places where it would’ve been perfect to place traps, but alas, there were none. A few times the human saw something glowing red out of the corner of their eyes, but when they turned to look there was nothing. Eventually, they found a jacket on the ground. A nice, warm looking, red jacket. The human contemplated what to do in their mind.

Should I take it…?

The human picked it up and looked around.

“Hello? Does this belong to anyone?”

The human didn’t hear a response.

“...I’m just going to leave it here.”

The human set the jacket on a nearby tree branch so it wouldn’t get covered in snow, and continued on. They eventually reached a rope bridge, beyond which they could see a small town. When they stepped onto the rope bridge, they heard footsteps behind them. Turning around they saw...nobody.

I swear I heard something…

They took another step, and heard more footsteps.

It’s nothing, keep going.

They continued, a little faster, and then the footsteps sounded like they had also stepped onto the bridge, but the human didn’t look back. They kept going, and when they reached the end of the rope bridge, they whipped around. There, on the bridge, was a little white dog.

“Bork!”

“...”

The dog stuck out its tongue, and hopped over to the human, looking up at them.

“Aww, aren’t you just a cutie?”

The human pet the dog, enjoying it’s soft fur. They sat down, and decided this would be a great place to take a nap. So they laid down on the ground where there was the least amount of snow, and fell asleep.

A Few Hours Later

The human woke up to the sound of the dog barking on top of their head. They sat up and picked it up.

“Now why were you on my head, little guy?”

“Bork!”

The human looked around and didn’t see anything at first, then saw footsteps in the snow around where they were sleeping. From the looks of the prints, the person was wearing work boots.

“What the-”

The human jumped up and held the dog close in their arms. The dog kept barking at the trees, and when the human looked at where the dog was barking, they saw two glowing red eyes, staring at them from the forest.

The human calmly walked to the town, so that the figure didn’t know the human had seen them. When they reached the town, they found Sans standing next to the sign.

“Hey, I see ya made it here! Took ya long enough. Honestly thought you died!” The skeleton laughed, though the human didn’t see the joke. When he was done, he looked behind the human, and his eyes widened slightly. “Hey, let’s go to Grillby’s. You look starving!”

Sans rushed the human away, dog and all. On the way to where Sans was taking them, they saw a shiny yellow star in between two shops. They broke off for a moment because they were curious, and wanted to touch it. When they did, a voice sounded in their head.

The sight of such a friendly town inspires you to persevere.

The human pulled back their hand and ran back to Sans, wondering what just happened...

Sans took the human to a diner with a sign that said “Grillby’s” on it. Inside, they were greeted by a ton of monsters, who seemed very friendly.

“Hey, Sans! Is that a new monster?”

“Yup. Straight from, uh, New Home. They wanted a change of scenery, so they’re visiting for now.”

“Ohh, okay.”

Other similar conversations occurred, right up until they got to the counter, where a fire monster was cleaning a glass. They sat down, and the dog curled up onto the counter and fell asleep. Sans turned to the human and asked a very important question.

“Hey, kid...fries or burg?”

“Huh?”

“Your order. Do you want an order of fries or burg?”

“Uh...burg, I guess.”

Sans turned toward the fire monster, who was holding a notepad for orders. “Two orders of burg, please, Grillby!”

The fire monster wrote down the order and walked off, supposedly making the food. While he was gone, Sans tapped the counter, humming a tune. When Grillby returned, he had two plates with a burger on them, and set them down on the counter, careful to avoid the sleeping dog.

The human thanked Grillby and started eating. While they were eating, Sans was talking to a random monster, eating his burger. The human looked out the window behind them and almost choked. There, in the reflection of the window, was another version of them, wearing a green and yellow striped sweater, looking like they were bored, floating next to them.

The human looked to where the figure would be, and looked back at the window. The figure was staring back at the human in the reflection...directly into their eyes.

The human jumped back a bit, hitting their elbow on the table. They winced, and held it in pain. Sans looked over to them.

“You okay?”

“Yup...just fine…”

He shrugged. “If ya say so.”

The human stood up and looked at Sans, who wasn’t paying attention. They quietly walked out of the pub, and walked down a path that hopefully led closer to their goal. Unfortunately, it only led them to a snowstorm. Now they were trudging through the snow, hoping they didn't get lost. The dog was following them, trying its best not to get blown away by the storm. Eventually, they saw a figure in the snow. They looked like they were wearing a jacket, and the human could hear the clacking of bones.

Sans.

The human rushed forwards, hoping to get his help out of this storm. But when they got close, they saw something terrifying…

Sans’s eyes were glowing red instead of blue.

“Sans” walked towards the human, his boots crunching in the snow. When he got close enough, the human heard a spine chilling voice.

“Human … I see you’ve made it through Snowdin unharmed … congratulations. My brother may be a lazy pushover, but I don't love him any less for it.” Oh, so this wasn’t Sans.

The skeleton walked to the human, and leaned in and told them something. “Continue on this path, and you will die. My brother seems to have taken a liking to you. I’d hate for you to perish at some point and ruin that.” And the skeleton walked off, back to Snowdin. Before disappearing, though, the skeleton said one more thing.

“If you do continue, watch out for Undyne. Waterfall is her territory, and she can be quite dangerous when in her element.” And then he was gone.

The human watched as the blizzard stopped, revealing that they were really on a small land-bridge with trees lining each side. Before them was a choice. Do they continue on into the underground and the way out, but possibly die on the way? Or go back and stay safe?

The human turned continued on into Waterfall, though a bit more wary of what was to come.
