This month, we've got the pleasure of chatting with raindrops_, author of Finding Cinderella.

Finding Cinderella follows the teens Tristan and Kylie, former friends now enemies, who find themselves entangled with high school drama, hilarious friendships, and a roller-coaster romance... after dancing with each other for just one night.

Tell us about something about the language(s) that you are fluent in?

 I speak three languages. First is Hiligaynon (sometimes referred to as Ilonggo), which is my mother tongue. Second is Tagalog, another native language in the Philippines. Third is English.

What made you start writing on Wattpad? Could you tell us a little bit about your path to being a Wattpad star/Wattpad creator? 

I've always liked writing, and I'm glad I discovered Wattpad in 2012 because it allowed me to share my stories with people worldwide. In 2020, I was invited to become part of the Paid Stories Program, which gave me the opportunity to monetize my second novel The Way It Was Before. The program opened the door for me to the world of Wattpad Stars.

How did the idea for 'Finding Cinderella' come about?

The story of how Finding Cinderella came about was quite an amusing one. It was back in college. I was bored, so I randomly had the idea to start writing my own novel. I was addicted to anime and YA books, and I wanted my story to be something like those things--fun, fluffy, and romantic. I thought it would be funny to make a fairytale parody, and that was how Finding Cinderella was born.

 'Finding Cinderella' is now also available as a webtoon original, with a new identity called 'Match Made in Hell'. What is the story of your journey to a webtoon adaptation? 

Seven years later, after Finding Cinderella was first posted on Wattpad, I was bored to death again and wanted to take up a new hobby. During this time, I was into Webtoons. I was fascinated with the beautiful illustrations and emotional stories, and I was like, "I'm going to make my own comic." I decided to adapt Finding Cinderella because it was completely finished and easier to translate into a webtoon. The production was (and still is) challenging, but I had fun. It allowed me to hone my art and scriptwriting skills.

Talking about webtoon, do you have any favourites out there? 

To name a few: Girls of The Wilds, Annarasumanara, Winter Woods, All That We Hope to Be, and Midnight Rain.

Is there a verb tense you struggle to understand it's use?

Probably the perfect continuous tenses. I find them confusing and hard to translate into my native tongue.

Any tips and advice you'd like to share with other ESL writers starting out?

Consume TV shows, movies, literature, and anything that uses English. Observe the way people speak, the way the sentences are written, and the way the words are spoken. Conversing with your peers in English is also a great strategy to become fluent in the language.
