Chapter ♞ 27 : Kiss On The Forehead

The girl's basketball game has finally begun, Mikan dribbled the ball as she was running through the court, the other girls from the opposing team began chasing after her and her teammates were in the far distant to receive her pass during the mid-game.

She jumped up and shoot the ball in the ring as they finally scored five baskets in a row which was a feat, beads of sweat trickling down her forehead as she wiped it off with her arm while running.

"Nice shoot, Sakura-san!" one of her teammates offered a hand as they high-five with a laugh.

"Thanks." Mikan smiled as they focused in the game.

"I didn't know that you can play basketball this good." another teammate of hers stated, surprised.

"I was taught by the best after all." she answered as her team nodded in reply, she began looking ahead.

    Aomine-kun taught me after all.

Then two basketball girls from the opposing team blocked her path as they were double-teaming her.

"Sakura! Pass!" a girl from her team shouted as she immediately passed it.

The girl managed to shoot the ball in the loop as they scored once again, the game was going smoothly and really easy.

While being pressured and the target of the opposing team, she felt something heavy in her chest. Her eyesight was swirling once again as her knees were getting wobbly, she felt somewhat dizzy all of the sudden.

This isn't good...why does this have to happen to me now? she thought as she realized what was this all about.

Mikan felt that the gravity was pulling her down as she heard her name was being called from afar, her eyes were seeing the lights from above, her back crashed on the ground and slowly her eyesight was darkening.

I'm losing consciousness... she was feeling light-headed as something warm liquid trailed down her forehead, she brought her hand to it and saw that it was blood.

And then, she finally lost consciousness and drifted to sleep.

Meanwhile during the scene, her teammates went down to check if she was alright and tried to wake her up, but to no avail. Then a teacher walked up to them and to see that she fainted during the match.

"We don't have a choice, we will carry her in our own." the teacher stated but then someone walked towards them and swept Mikan off the ground and carried her in his arms.

"I'll carry her and bring her to the nurse's office." the boy stated as he walked out of the gym along with their supervisor teacher.

They reached the nurse's office as the boy laid her down on one of the beds gently as if she was somewhat fragile, then the boy started cleaning the blood from her forehead and putting bandages around it. The teacher tucked her in the blankets as she was sleeping peacefully.

"She has an anemia. I think she'll wake up soon, but she should be sent home early." the teacher stated.

"Oh, I see..." the male student stated as he nodded in reply.

"Midorima-kun, do you know how to contact Sakura-san's family?" the teacher asked.

"No, I don't." the green haired boy replied as he shook his head.

"Well, I'll go check in the staff room. Could you watch over her for awhile?" the teacher stated as she began walking out of the nurse's office.

"Sure, nanodayo." he replied but then the teacher stopped momentarily in her tracks before leaving.

"I know that a nice guy like you wouldn't do this, but I should say this, don't do anything improper." she warned him.

The green haired boy blushed, "I-I won't do such a low thing in touching a girl in her most invulnerable state!"

"Good." the teacher finally left the nurse's office and went to the faculty room to contact Mikan's household.

Now it was only him and her left in the room, Midorima sat down on the chair beside her bed as he looked at Mikan who was fast asleep.

He noticed how long her eyelashes was and how rosy her cheeks were, her orange hair fall in different places on the pillow while it was still tied by a twin red ribbons with polkadots. A soft snore coming out from her as she breathed in and out.

It was like what happened in the storage room when they were locked in, he kept noticing the littlest things about her. Then his bandaged fingers touched her bandaged forehead as he moves away her bangs from her closed eyes.

Then a memory flashed in his head as he remembered that Mikan kissed Aomine earlier after the obstacle course, he somehow wished that he ended up in second place instead of being in third. He felt a strange feeling earlier, it was like his heart was being crushed from the mere memory.

My chest hurts...I wonder why...

Slowly, he leaned down and kissed her on the forehead.

When he realized what he just done, his face turned scarlet red as he covered his mouth using the back of his hand while blushing furiously.

"What did I just do, nanodayo?! So embarrassing..." he stated, shamefully.

    "...Don't go...Maa-kun..."

Midorima's eyes widened in surprise after hearing what Mikan just said in her sleep.

Maa-kun? Who? A man? he thought as it took him by surprise, no kidding.

Who is that, nanodayo?! then his train of thoughts was interrupted when Mikan slowly opened her eyes, the first thing that she was him.

"Midorima-kun...?" she mumbled as she slowly sat up and looked around. "What happened to me?"

"You fainted earlier during the game so I carried you here in the nurse's office. You had an anemia, they say." Midorima answered.

"I see...thank you..." she replied as she held up her forehead, slightly drowsy and feeling light-headed.

"I fainted again, huh?" she mumbled under her breathe as the boy wasn't able to catch what she just said.

Then the teacher from earlier finally came back as there was another person behind her—it was Mikan's mother.

"Sweetie, are you okay?" her mom said as she walked towards her own daughter, embracing her.

"Yes, I'm fine...but what are you doing here Mom?" Mikan asked.

"I called your parent earlier to send you home, you should take some rest." the teacher answered her question.

"Okay..." the orange girl stated as she stood up from the bed and walked with her mother.

"Thank you for watching over Mikan, Midorima-kun." her mother told the green haired boy as he nodded in response. "It's nothing, I just happened to be there and took her here."

"Um, thanks a lot, Midorima-kun." Mikan stated as she thanked the green haired boy.

"It's nothing, nanodayo." Midorima replied in a good manner.

"But thanks anyway, I owe you." she grinned as the boy heaved out a sigh. "It's really nothing, you don't have to owe me or anything..."

"I see..." then the girl held her bandaged forehead and looked down on the ground as her cheeks turned slightly pink.

"When I was sleeping earlier, I felt something soft pressed on my forehead...it was such a nice feeling. I wonder what it was."

Blood hurriedly rushed up to Midorima's cheeks as he pushed up his glasses on the bridge of his nose, a habit of his as he scoffed.

"I-I also wonder what it was, nanodayo."
