Chapter 24
Uriel
The sound of children screaming with joy was so foreign to Uriel's ears that he stopped just to listen. He watched with detached curiosity as a Father scooped up a wiggling child and rejoined his smiling partner. An ache throbbed in his skull as the beast let out a mournful howl, the silent lament vibrating all the way down his spine.
Shaking off the beast's melancholy, Uriel approached the lone figure seated on a bench at the edge of the park. Quick fingers continued to sketch a perfect replica of the scene around him despite blind eyes clouded by the mutation eating his flesh. To someone who used the mind for searching for the information he used in trade he no longer needed his own eyes to see. Instead, he borrowed the sense from others. It was a skill Uriel had found very useful, but one he had to be careful when utilizing. Arthur was a sly thief and he'd made an art of slipping into people's minds un notice and taking what he wanted without leaving a trace of his presence, something the Beast didn't like. Already they could feel him poking around, looking for a hole in Uriel's wall as he added a faceless man to his depiction. But the Beast did more than just torment Uriel and It snaped at Arthur's unwelcome intrusion making him jerk in surprise, his hand slashing a dark line through the unfinished addition.
Setting the sketch aside, Arthur tilted a sheepish grin up at Uriel. "Sorry mate, a bit of a habit I'm afraid.
"You're forgiven if you can help me find something." Uriel offered and settled into the spot next to him so as not to draw any wanted attention.
"I'm not that cheap" Arthur snorted, his restless hands finding a new page to fill. "What did you have in mind"
"I'm looking for someone with a concealment charm."
Arthur grimaced.
"Why do you always have to ask for the impossible?"
"Nothing is impossible." Uriel reminded him.
"I suppose not" he sighed as an image of a sand-swept city emerged from paper and graphite. "I'd need something to work with."
"I thought you might."
"What do you got?"
"Not much, but it's part of a memory."
Flipping to a new page Arthur hummed. "Better than nothing."
Hand posed over the blank paper and head tilled in expectation, he waited for Uriel to give him what he needed. He didn't have to wait long. With a gentle shove, Uriel sent the remaining remnants of the image he had glimpsed of the one he sought. Like an arrow from a bow, Arthur's thoughts shot from his mind, flying across the globe to find their query.
For several moments he sat, quiet as his gaze flicked here and there following someone else's line of sight until he blinked and gripping his pencil began to furiously sketch the images in his mind's eye. Five minutes later he handed Uriel a drawing. It was only a partial portrait but there was enough for him to recognize the girl captured in the background. what he found more interesting was the menu at the forefront.
At the very top in big welcoming letters was written "Mindy's Nest: chow for the night owls and early birds.
