Chapter Seven

Why would you let a mutant into your house? Look at what he's done.

I didn't know... I didn't—

You're one of them! Oh my god... my daughter is a mutant. I can't— I can't believe this.

Mom, please.... I never did anything bad! I swear. Please... don't send me away.

"Don't send me away."

You're disgusting. I never want to see you again.

"NO." I gasped away and quickly sat up, startling Peter awake.

"I didn't do it!" He yelled, quickly relaxing when it was just the two of us, still on the floor. "Oh. A nightmare?"

"I don't want to talk about it." I muttered coldly, staring ahead at his wall. My mind had completely ignored the interaction with Peter last night, turning to look at the clock.

"Come on." I said, throwing the blanket off of me and onto Peter. "We'll be late for school."

"Don't you think it's a little bit dumb to go to school after last night?" He frowned, standing up.

"Oh so you think going to school while being followed by a lunatic robot is a bad idea but you go to my house?" I glared at Peter as his shoulders dropped.

"Well.. there's a bigger risk of more injuries—"

"My mom could have died last night! I could have died last night! And all you were thinking about was your own safety." I poked a finger into Peter's chest.

"Well what did you expect me to do?! It's not like I could go to my mom for help! She's not a mutant!"

"So because I am that means you can go to me for help?!" I yelled, not paying attention to the person in the doorway.

"I wasn't expecting the outcome it had!" Peter snapped as I scoffed.

"Of course you didn't! Because you never think! You just do." Someone cleared their throat, the two of us snapping our heads in the direction of the doorway, my eyes widening in horror to see my mom

I opened my mouth to speak, hoping my mom wouldn't react the way I feared, but she just raised her hand out., and shook her head.

"I think—" my mom cleared her throat, a tear falling down her cheek. "I think I'm going to stay at a friend of mines for a bit."

"Mom I—"

"I don't want to hear your excuses." My mom quickly walked out as I continued to call after her, slowly turning to Peter.

"Do you see what you've done?" I seethed, my hand gripped the door to stop myself from beating Peter up. But instead, I just drew in the energy from the house' electricity and put it in my body.

"Jeyda I didn't mean for this—"

"Just shut up." I walked out of his room, running up the stairs in hopes I could catch up to my mom. And I did.

"Mom!" I yelled, running out of the house.

"Leave me alone, Jeyda." She ordered, walking down the street.

"Mom please let me explain—"

"Did you ever use it on me?" She asked, stopping to turn to me. I looked down at her, tears threatening to fall down my cheeks. "Your abilities?"

I was quiet for a moment. "Only once." That was a lie. "That was last night... I didn't— I didn't want you to freak out so loudly so- I Uh... I knocked you out." I stammered as she scoffed.

"If you can salvage anything from the house that's yours—"

"Mom no—" - "I want you to get anything that's yours—" - "please mom I won't use them again—" - "I'm going to call someone-" - "I'll act like we're normal! I swear I'll stop using my powers—" "and I'm going to send you away."

"No!" I begged, a burst of energy escaping my body, striking my mom. She gasped, and I watched in horror as her body started aging faster and faster. "No— no no stop! Stop doing that!" I screamed as she began to fall to the ground. "No— mom don't—"

"Why must you have been born like this?" She whispered before getting on the bus. I watched as THAG bus rounded a corned before letting out a scream as tears streamed down my face, shaking my head as well as my body.

"Why did I have to be like this.." I feel to the ground, continuing to sob uncontrollably as energy flew around me in a colorful dust.

Now you see why I attempted to keep my emotions down. And why I hated this ability.

This ability was not only dangerous. It was deadly, and destroyed lives.

That's why I used my ability on my mom twice, instead of the one time I said I had used it.

"Jeyda..?" I stopped sniffling as I heard Peter's voice. "Did she—"

"Do you think I'd be weeping if she didn't just abandon me?" I asked as if it was a dumb question, and it was, slowly standing up as I turned around and faced Peter.

"Jeyda I'm— I'm so sorry—" I only yelled, throwing a ball of energy at Peter. But he quickly dodged it. "Jeyda I didn't—" I threw another ball. "I'm sorry!" And another.

I kept stepping closer to Peter, attempting to throw more balls of energy, but the closer I got, the closer he stepped forward, until I was being wrapped into his arms, my cries being muffled as I suffocated myself into his chest.

"I hate you." I whispered, but accepted the hug, knowing that he only meant it so I'd stop trying to kill him.

"And you have every right to." Peter whispered as I moved away from the hug. I hated to admit it, but it genuinely helped a little bit.

"What are you going to do?" He asked, the two of us staying quiet.

"I—" I didn't know. My mom just told me to pack my bags and she'd be calling someone. But who?

Peter's eyes stared into mine as if he was trying to figure out my next words. And the more I looked into his, the more I realized something.

And again, I hated that I was admitting this.

But I couldn't do this alone.

"I think I need to run."

"You mean we right? Remember, this robot is now chasing both of us—"

"Yes, Peter. I—I mean we." Peter's smile faltered for a moment before he nodded.

"I'll get my bags." In the blink of an eye, Peter reappeared, holding a large duffle bag. "You got money? We'll need a place to stay for the night!"

"I hope my piggy bank is in tact. That's got all of my money." I muttered as Peter spun me around. "What are you doing?"

"It's faster if we use my way." I yelped as Peter's hand grabbed the back of my head, and we were suddenly in front of my house.

I held my stomach for a moment, running over to our push and throwing up. I was expecting the run this time, which also meant my body was now aware and had me experience the whole thing.

I groaned quietly as Peter sighed. "Happens to a lot. You'll get used to it." He smiled as I shook my head.

"No I won't. Because we are never doing that again." I wiped my lips and slowly looked up at my house, feeling my heart sink.

I knew that firefighters had gotten to it last night, since the place was still damp from water, and there was police tape on the blown up door.

"Yikes." Peter commented as I glared at him for a moment.

"I'll be out soon. You stay here." I ordered, slowly walking into my house. The place still smelled like my home but with the exception of smoke. My nose tingled with the threat of tears to fall, my finger trailing over my dining table, picking up ash.

"Jesus he's such an idiot." I muttered, looking up at the stairs. "It just had to be me he ran to." I walked up the steps cautiously, going to my bedroom.

Surprisingly, upstairs was the only place in tact, which meant everything in my bedroom was safe. I walked into my closet, grabbing a large duffel bag, shoving as many clothes as I could.

After that, I grabbed a backpack, shoving anything important I wanted. Money, my cassette player, and anything else that was genuinely important.

"Cute." I yelled loudly, throwing my fists up in an attempt to shield myself, glaring at Peter, who stood in the doorway.

"I told you to wait outside!"

"You we're taking too long!" He argued as I scoffed, zipping up my backpack and throwing over my shoulders, picking up the duffel bag.

"I have about $650. That should be enough for a motel for the night and then I'm going... here." I handed Peter a pamphlet of Xavier's school for Gifted Youngsters.

"You're going to the place your mom threatened to send you?" Peter quirked a brow as I nodded slowly. "...why?"

I was hesitant to speak. I knew the school had been shut down after everything that's happened the past few years, but I still had hope.

"I think Charles Xavier is my dad."

Yes we are using that "oh your dad is Professor X? Mines Magneto." Because more differences. Villain dad, hero dad 😌 fast, and slow. You get the idea.
