How frustrating. Terunori was quite frustrated with his loss with the first seat. It was so annoying he just wanted to throw a tantrum and cry all night. This wasn't his first defeat against him, he wanted to get revenge.

But... he never truly wanted the first seat.

He just liked defeating stronger opponents.

So this defeat, now it felt like it was just another step to learning more for his future, so he wasn't that mad. He was rather disappointed.

He was defeated so easily, and here he thought that he finally progressed in his talents. Looks like he'll just have to train more in the future.

For now, he had something even more important than his own shokugeki against the first seat.

And that was to know whether you won or not.

He knows you were talented and you only grew every second you were in the kitchen, unlike him. You were someone great who shines with so many great qualities.

So he had faith in you. Because unlike him, you had a real goal for your shokugeki.

He knows that you can win this.

Terunori stopped, his gaze completely glued to the floor. He had his fists clenched as he remembered the conditions of your shokugeki. He trusts the rest of the first years to pull this off, so he knows that he was safe from expulsion.

As for you... You weren't going to face expulsion because he knows that you were an important chess piece for central. Rather, you'll be given punishment. Both academically and most likely from your mother.

And from what he can see... She was never the type to inflict physical pain, but rather mental pain.

And along with that punishment, your freedom will be taken from you.

And he doesn't want that.

He did fall in love with the (Y/N) that was so free and so bright.

"What's got you so down?"

"AAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!"

Terunori had never felt so frightened in his life before. He was so startled that his mind stopped working and he accidentally hit his face on the wall beside him, making him tumble to the ground.

A shriek left his mouth as he held his aching nose. Oh now he was mad! He was very angry! He was just on his peaceful way to go see his dear girlfriend and now someone had the nerve to even-

"(Y/N)!?" He gasped, his face exploding in red of embarrassment. He can't believe that he almost said something that might've gotten him in the worst possible situation. "You're back! How did it go!?"

You sighed, crouching down on the ground and wiped off the blood that was running down Terunori's nose. He was patiently waiting for your answer, but your priority was to stop his bleeding.

"First of all, take this." You took a handkerchief from your pocket, giving it to him to use to block his bleeding nose. You stood up, taking Terunori with you. "Are you okay now?"

"Me?! First off, how did your shokugeki go!?" He asked, his hand still clasped between yours. He was itching to know the result, and you can see that. "(Y/N).... nothing... bad happened, right?"

"Don't worry," You began, leaning on his forehead with a calm smile. "I won."

"Oh! Terunori, you could make it!" Yvon cheered, running over to the boy and pulling him inside the room where everyone enjoyed the sweets you and your mother created a while ago. "Come here and take a look at this! Hurry! Hurry!"

Terunori wasn't able to resist as he was swept away by Yvon and the rest, going over to show him the dessert you made, and make him taste your father's favorite too.

"(Y/N), you've done great." Your grandfather said, standing next to you with a proud aura. "You surpassed even your mother, that's an amazing achievement. She was a second seat, after all."

"I highly doubt that I beat her at all." You replied, recalling the events of the judging. "The two of us got judged because you were nice enough to actually taste what we made despite the theme being different from the original. I know that's against the rules."

"Indeed it is." He nodded with an amused smirk. You were never one to cheat, like ever. So seeing you changing the theme on your own will makes him quite proud. Finally, you weren't being tied by the rules. "But creativity and emotion are what drives us to move forward, and that's exactly what happened with you and (M/N)."

"Exactly. Emotion drives us." You nodded, remembering the education you got when you were younger. It was studying one's emotion and how to incorporate it into your dishes. Because a dish is a reflection of a chef. "Mother lost because the one she wanted to create the dessert for isn't here anymore. She knew that father wasn't going to eat it, so she just made it without her full potential."

It was slightly offensive. You were giving it your all, yet your mother half assed her creation because the one it was meant for wasn't there. But you weren't going to get mad at her or blame her at all.

Because when you were just recovering from your mother's breakdown ages ago, everything you did was half assed until your grandfather showed you around Totsuki. Oh yeah, that's when you met the Nakiris.

"Mother had a lot of potential. But she chose love rather than her passion." You looked around, looking for your mother. But she left when you went to look for Terunori, so you didn't know where she was. "And because she chose love.... I learned how to properly love someone..."

Masafumi flinched, slowly turning to you with eyes of suspicion. And once he saw the love struck expression on your face as you stared at Terunori, he felt his world swirling in the ice cold winter.

There goes his precious baby granddaughter that he wants to protect forever. Finding love on her own, leaving the nest, and following in her mother's footsteps. But then again, you inherited your father's love for your work, so he doubted that you would give up everything for a guy.

"Grandpa, where's.... Mom?"

(M/N) was walking alone in the hallway. She was on her way out to go back to the airport. She promised that she would leave you alone if she lost, so here she is, going back on another world tour to disappear.

Surely you wouldn't want to see her after all she did.

She put you, someone, who is brimming with creativity and joy, through hell by controlling you and taking away everything that fueled your life.

She was a shitty mom -no- she was a shitty human being.

How could she do that? And to her own daughter no less. A daughter that she and her husband loved dearly to the bottom of their hearts.

She wanted to be there too. When you first got into Totsuki. She remembered it like it was yesterday. (M/N) was there to watch the ceremony, how could she forget. Maybe at that time, her guilt was too big so she wanted to apologize.

But she just couldn't bring herself to.

All she could do was watch her daughter walk into the same path as she and (F/N) did. But unlike her, you didn't have anyone by your side.

You were a walking fortress that didn't let anyone come near you. You had completely shut out the little girl who loved to go on picnics, playing fairies, ordering around her grandpa like nothing, the one who loved her family more than anything.

And it was her own fault.

"How funny... tears... now? Really?" She asked with a laugh, wiping her tears. Luckily, her makeup was waterproof or she'd look like a ghost with this many tears flowing out. "This is ridiculous... Even (F/N) would be ashamed of me... I don't deserve to cry."

"Mom. Everyone cries." (M/N) flinched, surprised when she suddenly felt arms around her from behind. "And also, where the heck do you think you're going?"

"Uh.... away....?" (M/N) suddenly felt a chill run up her spine. And that chill told her it was best to not look at you right now.

"Ha?! And where do you think you're going!?"

"Away! I'm going away!" She argued, trying to get you off of her before the two of you fell. She is wearing heels. "Let go! Do you want to get matching broken noses!?"

"It's fine! Terunori already has one!" You exclaimed, still keeping your mother in place. "The agreement was that I get my freedom and you can't control me! It doesn't say anything about you going away!"

(M/N) stopped struggling at your words. She couldn't believe it. She was sure you would hate her with every fiber of your being, and she wouldn't mind, she deserved your hatred after all.

But hearing you say that... made her heart ache. Her daughter hasn't grown up after all...

"Why are you going away? You were already gone most of my childhood... so please, don't disappear in the last few years of me being a child, mom..."

"Dammit (Y/N).... you're making me cry here..." You could hear her sniffle as she tried to get rid of her tears. Even you were doing your best to not cry. "But... don't you hate me?"

"I do." You answered truthfully. "But that doesn't mean I don't forgive you. I forgive you, mother. I know you were just hurting then, your husband just died. I understood that even back then. That's why I told myself that I will ask for your forgiveness once you recognize me."

"....My precious daughter..." (M/N) smiled, turning around to give you a hug. "You don't need my recognition.... It was my fault, I was wrong then and I am, even now. So... I won't accept your forgiveness."

"But-"

"Not right now." (M/N) let go, holding onto you at arm's length. "I'm sorry, but I can't face you after all of the things I've done. I want to travel, but this time I won't do it to avoid you. This time, I'll do it to truly heal from my mistakes. And when the time comes, maybe we can all have our family picnic."

".....Yeah..." You chuckled, wiping the tears away. "I'll wait for you, mother."

"And I'll be sure to truly change this time." (M/N) leaned closer, placing a small kiss on your forehead. "Now then, go to Terunori. I'm sure you miss him."

───✱*.。:。✱*.:。✧*.。✰*.:。✧*.。:。*.。✱ ───

"So... how did it go?" Terunori asked, holding out his hand for you.

"She left." You answered with a sad smile. "But... she said she'd come back... then we can have our picnics... When she comes back, do you want to join our family picnic?"

"Eh? But I thought it was a family picnic?"

"Oh, you dumb monkey." You laughed, giving him a slight flick on his forehead. "Looks like you forgot summer already. Once a (L/N) invites you to a family event once, you better be prepared to attend many more in the future!"

Terunori felt his heart aching and squeezing the life out of him. God your smile was too bright for him! This was so different from your usual self but he wasn't going to complain!

"Now then! Let's go see who won the team shokugeki!" Your voice woke him up, if your voice didn't do it, then the painful tug on his arm as you run did. "Come on! I already know that Irina and Yukihira made it through the end! I wanna see it before-"

Just then, all of a sudden, your clothes disappeared, making the two of you stop.

"If you look I'm going to gouge out your eyes!"

"I'm sooooorrryyyyy!" Terunori cried, picking up his chef's coat and putting it on top of you. All the while getting rid of his impending nosebleed. "(Y/N).... I should ask Nakiri to do some shokugekis and bring you-"

"Say one more word and you'll see." You glared at your boyfriend, making him flinch. Although, why the fuck was he blushing. You shook your head, taking his hand and running again. "Never mind that! Let's go! That was the Nakiri bs! They have the final results!"

You two ran, going as fast as you could go until you arrived at the venue where you heard the news.

Team rebels won.
