5: Oh look at you!

Y/n POV

"Have you done any work yet?" Mark sighs, running a hand through his hair.

"Nope!" I speak happily.

"Y/n, you only have to do two easy parts. Please do them."

"How about you do them." I suggest.

"Why aren't you doing your part? Is there something happening at home? Do you not want to do it? Procrastinating?" Mark asks.

"When was the last time you saw me turn in something other than a detention slip?" I raise an eyebrow.

"That doesn't answer my question." Mark rolled his eyes.

"Well what if I...what is it?" I think to myself, forgetting the words.

"Plead the fifth?" Mark says.

"Yes!" I snap my fingers. "What if I plead the fifth?"

"I'd be lying if I said I wasn't surprised you know what that means." Mark pushes up his glasses. "If you need help, you can ask, y'know."

"What if I don't want help?"

"But you obviously need it, seeing as your not doing your part." Mark says.

"I don't need help." I state, anger lacing my voice.

I don't know why, but the thought of needing help made me mad? I just felt useless and weak if I needed to ask someone for help. I can do it on my own. Its not like I don't get it, I just don't want to do it.

"Okay," Mark nods. "I was just offering help if you need it, I don't see why you got irate."

"I-what?" I look at him as if I had seen a bear walking down the street like a human.

"Irate," Mark repeated. "feeling or characterized by great anger."

"Yeah, it'd be nice if you could use words that I know so I can understand you."

"Well I don't see why I should change the way I speak just for you to understand what I'm saying." Mark shrugs. "Plus, its a way for you to expand your vocabulary."

"Yeah, no." I disagree. "I don't even remember what I ate this morning."

"Anyway, back on topic," Mark stares at the papers on his desk. "I've already done my part of the project, all we need is your two parts then we're done. We can put them onto slides and send them to Mr. Hallin." Mark smiles.

"What makes you think I'll do them?" I smirk.

"If you don't, we'll have to schedule a time where we can meet and we can work on it. I don't have to help if you don't want, but I will stay there to be sure its done."

"And if I don't show up?" I question.

"You'll get a zero for this project." He smirks.

"What about your grade?"

"A, obviously. Don't forget that Mr. Hallin will have a list of who did what." He reminds.

"Haven't you figured out that I don't care what grade I get?" I roll my eyes. "And don't you dare begin listing reasons about why I should care."

"You're not going to do it, are you?" He sighs.

"Nope!" I smile. "Better begin thinking of places we can meet to make it easier in the near future. Make sure its not far from your house so you don't have to come all the way out to realize I'm not coming."

"Actually, how about you come over to my place so that way I won't have to come out at all to take care of your responsibilities."

"Oh look at you," I tease. "first you game me your number and now you're inviting me over to yours. Both of which I wont need."

"I am doing anything but trying to befriend you, so please stop turning everything into what seems like Tyler would do to Mari Kemple."

"Tyler likes Mari?" I raise a brow.

"I'm not sure if like is the correct word," Mark shrugs. "I would say obsessed is better wording but that makes him sound stalker-ish."

"Wow, now I know not to trust you with anything private." I mumble, rolling my eyes.

"I don't see how its private if everybody knows." Mark shrugs. "Mari herself knows."

"And how does everyone know? Did you tell them all?"

"Its quite obvious," Mark states. "if I didn't know any better, I would assume they're dating."

I stare at him as if he just said he can breath without air. We sit in silence for a few seconds, the only sound being the other pairs communicating about God knows what. Mark decides to break the silence after what seemed like hours but were only minutes.

"So about meeting up," Mark begins. "I was thinking this weekend, if thats fine with you? Maybe at five so that gives us plenty of time to look over everything and begin putting them on slides. Hopefully by the end of that day, we'll have everything done and turned in."

"You really think I'll show?" I smile amusedly.

"It doesn't hurt to have hope you'll change your mind." Mark smiles but soon replaces it with a more professional look. "You're welcome to come on either Saturday or Sunday, whichever is good for you. I suggest coming at five, my reasons I just stated and from there, we'll be good to go."

"You do realize the project isn't due for another three weeks," I mention. "Everyone around us are just reading aloud with their partner." I chuckle, looking around the class. "Well, most of them at least. Others are just talking about random shit."

"I do, but I think its better to turn it in early to get it out of the way and I wont have to worry about it." He shrugs. "I also don't see a point in reading another book if I've already read one that I think is perfect for this."

"I'm not saying I will come, because I wont, but what will your parents think about having a girl in the house?"

"They won't mind, anyone I bring home makes them happy, especially if its not Tyler." Mark explains.

"Why? Do they hate him?" I ask.

"No, they love Tyler, they just enjoy seeing me make new friends. Its not everyday that someone other than Tyler speaks to me." Mark says, a somewhat sad look in his eyes covered with a smile.

I kind of felt bad for him. I suddenly regret saying all the rude comments I have said to him in these couple of days. I didn't actually mean them of course, I just said it. They weren't the most hateful thing I could come up with obviously, I don't say things like that. I may be bad, but I'm not a bully.

For some reason, 'bully' seems like a word only elementary students would use. I don't know any other word for it and I'm too busy to look up synonyms for it so I'll change it later...
