2: Found him

Y/n POV

"Hey sweetheart, how was school?" Mom asks as I walk through the door.

I grunt in reply and continue to my room. I twist the cold metal only to find it locked. I attempted to open it a few more times with no success. A snicker was heard from behind me. Turning around, my little brother, Zach, was standing there with a grin on his face.

"Hey Zachary," I smile, walking towards the thirteen-year-old "Did you do this?"

"Maybe, maybe not." Zach smiles.

"Zach," I slowly step closer towards him "give me the key."

He shakes his head and darts down the hallway. Without a second thought, I run after him. I almost knock my sister down in the process but I don't stop.

"Zach!" I yell.

"No running in the house!" Mom yells and us.

Zach runs out the front door and down the driveway. I finally get close enough to where I can reach him. I grab his wrist, turning him around. He drops the key and picks it up with his other hand, holding it away from me.

"Zachary, I swear to God!" I reach out for his other hand but he avoids my hand in any way he can.

"I'll take that!" McKenna, my fifteen-year-old sister smiled, grabbing the key from Zach's hand.

"Ken! Be a good little sister and give me that key!" I release Zach's wrist and follow Ken into the house.

"Not until you do my homework." Ken turns around and folds her arms in front of the front door.

"You really want me to do your homework?" I raise an eyebrow "You'd get a better grade on it if you did it."

An idea came to mind, causing the smirk to grow. I cross my arms, staring at the oblivious girl in front of me.

"Okay," I nod slowly "what is it?"

"English." Ken states.

"Fine," I smile. She slings off her book bag, handing it to me. She turns around, opening the door and walking in like she just won a rap battle.

"Its in the red binder behind the blue divider." Ken yells, running up the stairs.

"Whats that about?" Mom asks, turning around from the stove and facing me, her hands on the bar.

"Y/n has to do Ken's homework to get the key to unlock her door." Zach smiles, sitting on a barstool.

"McKenna, get down here!" Mom yells.

"Ken, don't come down here!" I yell back, sitting next to Zach and pulling the red binder out.

"Yeah, I'm gonna listen to Y/n. Sorry mom!" Ken yells from her room.

Mom sighs in annoyance and turns back to the stove.

"Where is your brother? Nixon?"

"Nix!" I yell, staring down the hallway next to me.

"What?!" He yells, standing in his doorway.

"Found him." I say, flipping through Ken's binder to the blue divider.

"What do you want?" The sixteen-year-old male asked from down the hallway.

"Mom wanted to know where you were!" I yell back, taking Ken's homework out from the rings.

"Actually, could you come here please?" Mom sets a lid on a pot and turns around.

Nix groans, walking down the hallway. His brown hair fell in front his face which is unusual. Its always pushed back. As he enters the kitchen, the light brights up his form, revealing his pals skin and dark brown eyes.

"You're mother contacted me," mom speaks. My head snaps up at the mention of Nixon's mother. "She wants to see you."

"What-no, she can't do that!" My gaze switch between Nixon and mom.

"Well, what does that mean? What's gonna happen?" Nix asks.

"Whats gonna happen is we'll do everything in our power to keep her away, she can't just come out of nowhere and ask to see you!" I speak, anger filling my voice.

"Y/n, this has nothing to do with you. Zachary, go to your room." Mom speaks calmly.

Zach stands up and runs up the stairs to his room. Mom sighs, running a hand through her hair. Nixon looks curious and slightly scared at the thought of his mother.

"This is up to you. Do you want to see her?" Mom asks, ignoring my glare "If you see her, it will have to be supervised visits."

"Do I have time to think about this?" Nixon asks.

"Of course, sweetheart."

"No, we can't let this happen, are you insane?" I interject.

"Y/n," Mom warns, sending her mother glare my way.

"What? What could you possibly do now? Take me away from my dad?" I say "Oh wait-you've already done that."

"There is a reason you can't see him, Y/n." Mom speaks sternly.

"And what might those reasons be?"

Her eyes grow wide but says nothing. She stands there, thinking of an excuse but wasn't successful. I stand up off from the barstool, grabbing McKenna's binder and begin walking up the stairs, leaving the silent mother in the kitchen.

Of course I still can't get into my room, and knowing McKenna, she won't give me the key until I finish her homework. I sit down on the couch, setting the binder on my lap.

Time to make this a disaster.
